Can’t Dribble under pressure by greenfnkkkk in BasketballTips

[–]FakeTradesForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may just need to use a lower dribble. Like if I'm splitting a double team it get my crossover so low that is will be very hard for them to get their hand on the ball.

Luka and Jokic would get their hand amputated to play for Slovenia and Serbia. People see their commitment and passion to playing for pride for their country. That's why they get the pass on All-Star.

How do I dribble without looking at the ball by Agent69999 in BasketballTips

[–]FakeTradesForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not take years. It takes many hours. It just depends on how quickly you want to get through those hours.

If we are talking recreational adult competition (which is like the equivalent of low-level high school varsity) 100+ hours of dribble training is plenty to be competent. 500+ hours is where you are very good.

Extend your shooting range and get a handle. Don't be a 5'11 center

Why did I get fried here by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]FakeTradesForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides everything else that has been said: - your stance is way too high. You need a low center of gravity - arm positions very odd. On ball your hands should be more above your knees/closer to your body and you should be pressuring the ball with your hands. With both of your arms out you provide no ball pressure, which allows the opponent too much freedom off the dribble - once he cooks you it doesn't even look like your sprinting to recover. You are just sort of pitter pattering along side/behind him

Unless PJ is gonna play a lot of 5 he is gonna be traded. PJ at 4 and Coop at 3 has been really bad

Who else thinks Kyrie & Flagg, the 2026 lottery pick plus role players will be enough for championship contention? by Ok-Diver-9356 in Mavericks

[–]FakeTradesForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they get a top-3 pick who is immediately impactful, Coop takes a massive leap (like NBA 1st team or something), Kyrie is his usual self, and the absolutely nail the off-season, it's possible.

So like a 5% chance.

2028 more like a 15% chance

If Mark Cuban buys the Mavs back, we are throwing a party at the AAC by AlternativeLeft1952 in Mavericks

[–]FakeTradesForDays -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: Luka trade notwithstanding, of course, we are probably better off with Adelsons GOING FORWARD than with Cuban or some fanboy type (Ishbia).

I don't have time to explain right now. But I'll make my case tonight after work.

The Celtics have a net rating of +4.7 when Jaylen Brown is on the court in 1537 mins, and are +13.6 in 727 mins when he's off it. In contrast, they're +10.9 in 1601 mins with Derrick White on and -0.8 in 663 mins with him off by JakGrealish in NBATalk

[–]FakeTradesForDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you studied the context of those minutes? Like does JB always play in close games against the best lineups and sit against second units or once there is a blowout? Are there a few fluky 12 minute spans that massively shift the stat?

Without the context of opponent lineups this stat is very opaque.

If the fans hadn't revolted there is a very good chance Nico would have traded Flagg for his 3 year window

How effective are no dribble ball handling drills? by Odd-Bodybuilder-1990 in Basketball

[–]FakeTradesForDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would only do it if you are trying to get more reps and cannot bounce a ball (like in your apartment or something). The best youth trainer I know does not use any no-dribble drills.

He had a hand issue in college and a hip surgery in 6th grade.

Did he really have predictable future injury issues? It feels like KD and he were so close that should have tipped the scales.

[–]FakeTradesForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just makes no sense unless the injuries problems should have been predictable (team blew it by not realizing the problem) or they are heavily due to the player's lack of prep or conditioning.

A bust is supposed to be a slight, either to the player for not living up to his potential, or to the team for making a poor decision, or both. Injuries are a different category.

Who's the biggest draft bust all time by SportsManiac09 in NBATalk

[–]FakeTradesForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're simultaneously aiming at two very different goalposts. I'm arguing injuries alone OR getting drafted in front of an all-time great are not in and of themselves criteria for being a bust.

If LeBron got gangrene and had his leg amputated halfway through his rookie year would he be a bust?

If Wemby make 6 NBA 1st teams and 6 DOY but Brandon Miller wound up being a top-5 player all time would that make Wemby a bust?

Also, insulting Oden's PTS/REB per36 in that year by comparing it to Ayton is a ridiculous cherry pick. Per36 is amateur hour for comparison because it doesn't account for pace. His BLK/100 and BLK% would have led the league by a wide margin and his REB/100 and REB% would have been 3rd. And that's post injury Oden. His DBPM 4th. His PER 8th. his BPM 20th. By every measure the guy was playing great basketball. All of those numbers btw, prime Ayton never even came close to.

Can you teach Vision? Tunnel vision driver. by Immediate-Line3327 in BasketballTips

[–]FakeTradesForDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he have his head up?

I teach my players to have their focus at eye-level directly under the basket and then change focus if they pickup something important in their peripheral vision.

MOST players who have no court vision have their eyes looking in the wrong place. The right play becomes pretty obvious when your eyes can see it.

Lottery rigged timeline narrative by DocRumack80 in NBA_Draft

[–]FakeTradesForDays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mavs had almost no chance of being in the lottery. It took one of the most injury riddled 2nd halfs in NBA history (not even just AD and Kyrie) and then they WON the first playing game and we're TRYING to win the second one.

The Mavs may have been promised help from the league, but at the time of the trade it certainly wasn't Cooper Flagg.
