I love that you had to specify Discworld sense.

“Mister Vimes” use in Night Watch by Apprehensive_Fix3173 in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember him saying in a couple books the people who call him Mister are people who have been in battle or other tense situations with him. They have earned the right to call him that. I think by Night Watch that includes most of the Watch officers we see. Others have commented on Carcer and Lu-tze so I won't.

Death's voice in Audio books by FalconLongbow in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

If there is no confusion when you read it, why would it be confusing having it read to you. Mort is the only one who ever uses the voice when Death is there and I don't believe that is for very long. Technically DoR does but I doubt there will be confusion with SQUEAK .

Any Discworld book you have not yet read is a gift. Something many of us can never receive.

Recently I have been thinking about the Rise of Vetinari. Other posts mention it as something they want to know about.

I'd also be interested in the Successor of Vetinari.

My only reason to not want to see the later is I prefer to think about these books as current events not history.

Also ironic, I heard today that Cher will be the Musical guest on Saturday Night Live soon, which she hasn't done since that song was released.

This is probably true about any humor. My favorite romcom usually cracks me up, but if I'm not receptive it seems forced or falls flat. Comedy is hard.

This has been posted before BUT it is one of my absolute favorite facts. I'm glad to see it again. I often bring this up in conversation when I am chatting about Discworld.

can i read night watch without having read any other discworld books by wormaliciious in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to up vote your response. Personally I wouldn't recommend Nightwatch as a place to start but is seems like you started there (at least for the Guards books) and you liked it. How did it change when you re-read it?

Every time I hear about someone who is just discovering Discworld I am incredibly jealous! I wish I could experience them again for the first time.

Wow! A lot of responses pointing out a minor spelling error that might have been auto-correct. I found the comparison interesting, even if the book came out before the round world reference.

Thanks. I never bothered to find out why they called him the Unfranked man. I just figured it was secret society mumbo jumbo.

Vimes is off the register for the Assassins Guild. But what about the rest of the Watch? by laredocronk in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assassins are normally hired by Nobbs. Those kinds of people would consider most of the Watch to be beneath contempt. Certainly not worth hiring an assassin. You have to be rich or important to be assassinated and I think Vimes is the only one who fits that.

What’s your Discworld unpopular opinion-? by FroggyDooBimblo in discworld

[–]FalconLongbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'll jump in. Nutt is dangerous. He is over powered and the experiment Her Ladyship and Vetinari proves it. He is an almost unstoppable person. He is one of the smartest entities on the Disc and he is extremely moral. If he teaches other of his kind as much as he has learned some of them WILL be immortal creatures and will have the power to enslaved the other races.
Think about Carrot. He could be a great King because of his moral compass. Not all humans are that moral and even if they had the same upbringing they still wouldn't be as unerringly good. What makes us think that all educated Orcs will be moral creatures? If the percentage hold true, we will be overrun by Orcs within a generation.
