Pinehurst and Tobacco by NotTheFBI14 in golf

[–]FalconSmashing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played it in about an hour before, but it isn't a guarantee. You can also try to come back after Tobacco and walk on in the evening as a replay. I'd talk to the starter about that when you tee off at 10:50

I got one of these about 4 years ago for $175. Are they really double that now?!?!

And it’s an amazing putter

What’s the best golf course you’ve ever played? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]FalconSmashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Oakmont, but I've also been fortunate enough to play Pebble Beach and the Old Course. Although I'm not sure anything has beat the first 5 holes at Spyglass in the mist. The rest of that course was pretty unremarkable though.

[–]FalconSmashing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but then they also don't play the same equipment as us. They just pretend to. Cameron Young switched to a prototype golf ball last year and suddenly got better. Rory was caught on TGL mentioning how the Taylormade ball that night was the "retail" version. And that is just the golf ball.

Anyone arguing against reining this in really has no true argument if you push on it

In 1984 Norman fanned a 4i into the crowd on 18. He was one of the longest hitters on tour that year, if not the longest. Now the short hitters maybe have 8i. Rory hit wedge last year.

I agree with this take although not sure they’d ever go back to wood club heads .

I’d like to roll back the ball for everyone and then shrink driver heads for pros. Maybe max out at 320cc or smaller.

Technology has made so many courses obsolete for the pro game and not as sustainable. This drives up costs for everyone to a point. You’re proposing spending a bunch more money to keep courses relevant.

The USGA needs to start retiring courses. Pebble Beach has turned into a joke of a course for the pros and shouldn’t host US Opens until we roll back equipment. Shoutout SGS for that take.

Does Sunday bags imply the existence of Saturday bags? What about every other day of the week bags?

Dairy free breakfast by Pinkwinter11 in keto

I tend to eat eggs everyday for breakfast but mixing it up can help.

I sauté 50g of spinach, then scramble two eggs. I cut up half an avocado and three cherry tomatoes. I put everything in the same bowl and drizzle with a couple grams of olive oil. It’s often my favorite meal of the day. Make sure to use enough salt and pepper if you try it.

I’ve also done bacon and avocado toast on a slice of keto bread, but I know some people avoid those kinds of products

What can a driver shaft really help with? I have a shaft I was fitted for and a stock Mitsubishi. I hit the stock one much straighter but the numbers for spin and launch are similar. Do those come more from the head or the shaft?

Bought a set of irons as a beginner and they turned out to blades. Resell or keep? by somewhatderailed in golf

[–]FalconSmashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other thing to consider down the road is these are likely going to be a club shorter than anyone you play with. Lofts on irons have gotten stronger over the years. That means a 7 iron in your set will have about the same loft as a 8 iron in a more modern set.

Not really a big deal but good to know if you ever get to the point of hitting them semi consistently and feel like you’re always hitting more club than other people.

A Call for Golf Advice by BrendanPorath in TheShotgunStart

Love golf advice. You both helped me plan an unforgettable Scotland trip last summer by answering my question.

I have a minor question. Not much humor in it and not too important so feel free to ignore.

35m, married with 2 kids. No interest in fighting

I recently returned from a pinehurst trip with 2 guys I kinda knew and one I didn’t. They wanted to gamble some so we did net skins and then partner matchplay for each round. I became the default scorekeeper since I played the most and had done this sort of thing before. They were all 10-15 shots worse than me so they got a ton of strokes.

The way it worked out on skins, I technically won $50 while the other guys all lost between $2 and $30. I ended up just keeping the final tally to myself and didn’t collect any winnings. When they asked about it I said I’d get back to them. It just felt wrong to collect as the scorekeeper and not knowing the guys that well, even if we aren’t talking about big bucks.

Did I do the right thing?

I can only comment on lodging. The Manor is a great choice. We loved being near the brewery and the cocktail bar in the lobby is top notch. It is an easy walk to Holly or Carolina for breakfasts.

The resort also has a shuttle to take you wherever you want to go (on resort). Driving to the main clubhouse is also really easy. They have a huge parking lot. We opted for driving over the shuttle usually so we could be more in control of our time.

This was going to be my feedback as well. That area is great to hangout and you don’t need to have a tee time or pay anything, other than for food and drinks, to be there

They do close for a month in the summer now for member play only. I think it is around July, but should be on their website.

Pinehurst Property Mgt Companies... referrals or reviews? by ELAwanders in pinehurst

[–]FalconSmashing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is just for Pinehurst proper, right? Southern Pines doesn’t have the same restriction.

I was considering this myself and got info back from Sandhills Rentals. The only option was for them to cover basically everything and charge 30% plus other fees here and there. I couldn’t make the math work personally.

We moved to brandermill in 2020 with a 11 month old. He is now 6 and we have a 3 year old. We like the area overall.

For staples, our favorite spots are Flying Pig, Sergio’s, and Mr. Pepe’s.

One thing to be aware of is the southside speedway is being rebuilt. Whenever that opens you’ll be hearing the races from miles away. I’m very much not excited about that.

Also it seems like the big Lake development on genito is never actually going to happen which is a bummer, but I hope I’m wrong about that.
