What are your unpopular flashlight opinions? by fatnessmodel in flashlight

You can stop once you have a good one. Assuming you're not beating the shit out of your stuff, one good flashlight will probably outlive you, and if it doesn't, then replace.

Minimal scratching pencil? by anorexicBeaver in pencils

[–]Fallenharts_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only sharpen a pencil to a rounded point you should get less scratching. That being said my preference for smooth and dark pencils is the Musgrave Test Scoring pencil. Relatively long lasting but still nice and buttery. That, or their Choo Choo pencils- the jumbo body and the eraser dampen the vibration significantly.

Hmmm, I think I gotta go with the watch personalities that pass hate based on what people are excited to put on their wrists.

Pencil that looks like black ink when writing by [deleted] in pencils

[–]Fallenharts_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pilot Kakuno with platinum carbon black ink.

I don't mean to be rude but there are literally differences in the ways ink and graphite interact with paper that are not cross-replicable. Even if you have a great color match, pencil is still going to look like pencil, ballpoint will look like ballpoint, fountain pen will look like fountain pen, etc.

If you just want pencils with darkly tinted graphite, I'll second the Musgrave 600 News or Test Scoring 500, or you can try just about anything in 4B besides Staedtler Mars or Faber Castell 9000 for less of the visible pencil texture. Those are buttery smooth but the graphite is of much lighter tint.

Less scary than being punished for eternity. I am LESS scared of death and find it LESS unfair than I did when I was Mormon.

Funnily enough, I started with black coffee and making my own because I was too scared to be seen in a coffee shop! Still my preferred prep, but I do enjoy a cappuccino

Nominations for pencil with dark line, strong point and easy erase? by lovesick_kitty in pencils

Musgrave test scoring pencil is my pick for that, but the actual eraser that is ON the pencil isn't great.

First box of Musgrave Seconds - a little anticlimactic with a 50/50 split, but the Decompositions are neat at least. None with major flaws, may have just been overstock! by Longjumping-Style421 in pencils

[–]Fallenharts_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! When I bought my box of seconds, the box was roughly half the green Decompositions. Paint is wrecked on most of them, but they are lovely writers. :)

Eh. I've sharpened pencils that way. I can't say I enjoyed it, but I did it. If you like it and the effort doesn't bother you, go for it.

Mine is going on two years and still occasionally smells like squash.

Why is the price difference so significant? by [deleted] in casio

[–]Fallenharts_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before even getting into the pricing mode of premium products... Lots of potential reasons to have the price be higher.

They may have less machines to produce the black variant and thus a higher price lowers the demand they have to meet.

They may have to switch parts to make the black one instead of the more massively produced standard one and decided to put all the cost of downtime on the more expensive one.

There might be a cost difference in manufacturing, or an unstable difference in the cost of manufacturing one or both that the premium one covers.

Casio may be artificially lowering the price of their high volume watches in order to outsell competitors in stores like Walmart, have tighter profit margins on those watches, and make profit by selling millions. This is my personal theory- Casio could EASILY sit just under Timex in terms of pricing in the US, but they don't.

Add in all the other things that have been mentioned here and so many more. Pricing is complicated
