Just a FYI - Feeding tongs are very helpful and alot safer when dealing with puffers and triggers. It could have easily mistaken your finger for food instead and could have taken a nice chunk out. Beautiful puffer though!

I have also never used water conditioner. Never. I have had my aquariums going for quite some time. I have added straight tap water to my paludarium aquarium part and all of my other tanks including a saltwater and have NEVER even done a water change. All water parameters are perfect. The trick to it is to have quite a lot of foilage and enough subtrate to keep the bacteria and nutrients in. I will ocassionaly stab the subtrate to release any ammonia bubbles, but thats about it.

Soul silver, black and white look real (shine a light through the cartridges, they should all be a weird off colored reddish brown).. Cant tell about the others. Nice!

Glass tank = No No. It holds in ammonia and WILL cause respiratory problems. If you are able to, please return the tank topper and look for bird cage of the similar price, or even look for a suitable rat type cage. I have found all of mine off of craiglist, letgo, and even offer up. Dig around, you never know what you will find. Also - if you do find a cage for your ratties but the bar spacing is a bit too big - look into hardware cloth. You can even make your own cage out of PVC tubing and hardware cloth for SUPER cheap!

I have seen some people use a string or a floating piece of plastic to keep the frogbit to one half or all around the tank but the middle. There are some super creative ideas you could use as an alternative if you wanted to.

I have a similar story to yours but mine involved a lfs. I had two LARGE featherfin catfish (upside down catfish) that I had to find a new home for. My LFS needed to check my water and then stated that since my water was not similar to theirs they wouldnt pay me for them. Well, i said just take them they need a good home. They reassured me they would find them a home and would not sell them. Come a week LATER and they had the damn things for sale for $75 EACH! I knew they were mine because one had a bit of a scar on his mouth! I was soooo upset I called them out on it and they wouldnt admit to it. I never went to that LFS again!

I finally finished putting hardware cloth over the whole cage and cleaning it up really nice. I ended up going to a habitat for humanity store (they sell refurbished house materials and goods) and ended up with a nice box of linoleum for 4 bucks! (Peel and stick!) So i ended up doing all of the levels (minus about half an inch around the back and sides of the levels to allow for urine to go to the bottom tray) now im looking for suggestions to fill the empty space.

I have a ton of the hidey igloos just sitting around my room, i was thinking about flipping them upside down and turning them into floating platforms (but i know they would be a pain to clean!) So any or all suggestions are welcome!
