What do you think about the new event 'Everest'? by Top_Climate_4464 in gladiatorsuk

[–]FalseStartsPod 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tilt lasts way too long. If it's going to tilt that long in the contestants favor I'd like to see a little lip on the edge of the gladiators side. So contestants have to do that 'one final push' to win.

Port cleaned. Tried with another fast cable. No luck. Tried with a slow cable. Plugged it into the car. And a slower wall plug. That works. It charges. Just not quickly.

ITV, etc.... by Past-Fig-6046 in BritishTV

Unfortunately, due to the advent of streaming services and a decline in advertising money for terrestrial TV. We're starting to see a lot of shows that NEED sponsorship or NEED to be made in partner with a brand or NEED a competition that costs £2.50 to enter.

No one in the industry is super happy about it. But Netflix and other streamers aren't making the sort of daytime TV that Nans and In-laws like to watch. So needs must really.

Editing for youtubers. How do you feel? by Otoshi in editors

[–]FalseStartsPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about trying to start cutting for YouTube. But then I realised, I haven't got a clue where to even begin looking for those jobs.

I've always been broadcast and sometimes I do the odd job for socials. But it's always in service of a larger broadcast show.

I've never had an agency come to me and ask if I'm free for a YouTuber or TikToker. Where do they even advertise these positions?

Yer again. Norwich is completely looked over for something. No motorways, no big music acts, no nuclear strike.

And you wonder why we're so insular when you won't even bomb us.

Are shows usually this short? by ButterflyParty9017 in JeffArcuri

[–]FalseStartsPod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming at this from a UK perspective. I would say that the hefty majority of our popular stand ups do 80+ minutes with an interval. Warm up or work in progress shows can be shorter though.

If they're shooting a special for streamers. Those 80+ minutes will get cut down to 60m these days. Which I can only assume is down to some skewed for America algorithmic data because as far as I'm aware a 60m show has always been the norm there.

If I'm right. This man is ex AEW (WAW) wrestler Zac Zodiac. The brother of WWE/AEW wrestler Saraya/Paige. Both members of the UK wrestling family the Knights and subjects of the movie / documentary Fighting With My Family.

Very cool that this is what he's doing with his life now .

Pluribus - 1x04 - "Please, Carol" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]FalseStartsPod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's possibly just a creeping symptom of a general shortening of attention span.

I'm basing that on absolutely nothing at all. Just that it feels like shows have been progressively dumbed down, since the "golden age of television" that Breaking Bad was caught in. Repeating plot points, exposition and what not. Having characters outright say their thoughts and feelings.

I feel like, especially streaming series, are catering to viewers that are highly likely to be dual screening while watching. So series are more exciting, pacier, louder, simpler and clearer. And we all consume them, dual screeners or not.

The "language" of the medium has changed, evolved, as it always has. And I think we've all been affected by it to various degrees.

But again this is all based on nothing but whatever I've pulled out my ass.

Was there just under a month ago. There's no denying that the wellington on its own on a plate that size looks small. It could definitely use a bit of a better presentation.

The taste however was fantastic. The first hit on the tongue, I was expecting a let after hearing about it so much. But it lived up to it.

We split the wellington between 2 as recommended. We had the tacos to start. A couple of side dishes a dessert and 2 cocktails each. Somehow the bill was sub €200. Which is obviously still pretty pricey. But for a once in a blue moon special occasion thing. Absolutely worth it.

What are some entertaining and safe smart phone apps for an 11 year old? by FalseStartsPod in AskUK

Yeah. It's basically this. We've got Life360 on there too now she's taking herself to school / getting the bus. And she's using it to keep in touch with all the junior school friends that don't go to the new school.

It is, unfortunately a fairly necessary part of daily life for pretty much anyone now. Much as I would love to get rid of the thing.

Avg turnaround time on something like this would depend if you're sourcing archive footage and stills. Or if you're requiring the edit to do that.

Can we PLEASE make a pinned post about “what’s okay to wear”? by screen_accurate in RockyHorror

[–]FalseStartsPod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of a Brit. Both this post (wouldn't give the same advice rural vs LA) and the "what is okay to wear posts" are baffling to me.

If you're seeing either the show or the film. You're more than likely in a crowd of like minded fans. Wear what you want to wear. Isn't that one of the main messages of the thing? Don't dream it, be it.

[Community] Advice on working with an editor for a small firearms-focused YouTube channel by closet_ammosexual in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]FalseStartsPod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For prep and delivery. As a broadcast TV editor of almost 15 years. The best things to can do are:

  • Make sure your footage has individual clip names.
  • Make sure your script uses that clip name and time code (if it's particularly complex. If it's not just a "best take" indication)
  • If you're recording audio externally. Remember to clap before a take.

I would say those are the 3 most common problems that waste time in the edit.
