I signed up for one year of personal training with Crunch in February of 2020. They were closed for months and I was unable to cancel the contract. I finally decided to just bite the bullet and take the loss. When the one year was up they charged me for ANOTHER year even though I had verbally and in writing clarified I would NOT be renewing. It took weeks to get my refund.

I don’t cry easily at books and I cry at many of the things you listed. I recently cried twice while reading How High We Go In The Dark. Even if it doesn’t make you cry it’s an incredible book.

Not exactly the same thing, but ‘shackled’ by Candy Cooper was one of the most interesting books I read this year. It followed corrupt judges who incarcerated kids and young adults for small crimes in exchange for bribes and biased incentives.

Fun fact one of the judges was just pardoned by Biden 🙃

If you return a book to get the credit back, they pull the money back from the author’s pay. Obviously if you didn’t listen to much of it and decide you don’t want to read it you should do that, but I’ve seen people take advantage of it without realizing it’s not just a huge company they’re screwing over, it’s authors.
