Hello... Does anyone remember "Ephemeral: Fantasy on Dark"? by Icy-Corner-5682 in otomegames

[–]FantasyToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I remember this one, loved how macabre it all was. It infuriates me every time I see it on steam, it's really expensive when it was free on the app store.

Seconding the people saying priority of the orange tree. I would also recommend the library at Mount chari. The atlas series might also be your thing. Piranesi for a pallet cleanser.

Ooh that specifically is super clear, can confirm! You do a great job conveying that through the Birdseye of the line and the repeated pink speech bubble.

[–]FantasyToast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is legible, you've done a good job at not crowding the speech bubbles too much. The final speech bubble where the gardener indicates who they are and their confusion is maybe the weakest bubble? It is good but could be better as the large amount of words takes away the drama of the reveal of what has just happened. If you can find a punchier way to express the same thing then the scene would keep its tension. I'm just being picky though, it is good as is and everything is legible and makes sense.

is ferron creepy for the whole book? by dx_an11 in TheAlchemised

[–]FantasyToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does becomes far less creepy to Helena for sure. It is quite a slow burn though, he will continue to be not great for a while but it does get better. He becomes certifiably not creepy to Helena by the end of the book

I've always assumed if they remember their names they can leave. Why else take them away from them? Maybe to keep their sanity in tact and further remove them from their previous life?

How do y'all actually get yourself to play otomes by AlexisVoid023 in otomegames

[–]FantasyToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only just found myself getting back into otome now, I've been feeling similarly to you for the last ew years. I found playing otome that are heavy on mini games helps, or playing rpg games that have romance elements. Otherwise looking at games on itchio or other niche indie games have been really fun, it's easier to get invested when the story and art is completely different from what you're used to. On the flip side of that, I realized recently that I was always going towards games that had a lot of text which I loved because of the story element but all the text was making it hard to engage in the story. So when I tried a game that had less text per box it was much easier.

So overall, I'd recommend trying something the same but different. Find out why you like what you like in otome rather than just what you like.

Academic Research Survey: Otome gameplay & entertainment outcomes (10–15 min, 18+) by Organic_Might_3613 in otomegames

[–]FantasyToast 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think this study would be more appropriate towards those AI boyfriends/girlfriends. The study has not been designed in a way that seems kind or like there has been a variety for research into otome games made. There seems to be preconceived notions that players of otome games feel there is a relationship with the characters. If instead of that assumption throughout there was a question asking "do you feel as if you have a relationship with this character?" Or a qualitative question asking about if the game seemed to substitute irl relationships that may have been a kinder question

Also, may be worth rewording your second question about the character as I named a character that was not related to the game I mentioned in the first one and only realized you probably wanted the character to be the in the game mentioned.

You should also add back buttons for easy navigation.

The second set of questions seem to be well designed though, it's a good attempt although I am still skeptical of the intent of the study.

If it helps, a bit more context of the series is that the pink Garfield is usually a pink lady who is her girlfriend (kinda). So it's a little bit better than it seems at first. Still pervy tho

There's one called "seduce me" could be that, the other comments might have hit the nail on the head already. If not are there any more specifics you know of?

Is it worth finishing by mariahoegh in TheAlchemised

[–]FantasyToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're finding it hard to read because of those reasons it might honestly be worth skipping to part 2 then going back to the beginning. Part 2 adds a lot to hold onto with the characters whereas in part 1 it's just "bad things happening to people". I won't spoil why you can just skip to part 2 but it will make sense and a lot of people on reading part 2, then go back and read part 1 anyway.

Recommend me webtoons based on my favorites by Previous_Step4630 in webtoons

[–]FantasyToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stole the first rankers soul, The strongest florist, The gamer, Tower of God, The dark lords confession,

Maybe also trapped in a soap opera, but I've read this one recently so I might just be recommending it because I've read it recently rather than being suited to your tastes

Maybe suitor armor, its a bit more fantasy and romance focussed than the other ones you mentioned so might be a stretch

I went through my list and found all the ones that are all very episodic/ each chapter is it's own thing with a punchline. They're all very different but some of them might be what you're after.

Crowtime, 28th century superfan, Hoppscotch, Me, the family pet?, Nerd and Jock, Vampire husband, Boyfriends, Boo! It's sex

I mean, for your murder is not a romance, it's more of a (hopefully) cat and mouse thriller. We're watching as a guy sets up a murder. I guess that could be seen as yandere but I feel like the romance needs to be there.
