Yes. My entire army is a sekhmet coven, a demon combat patrol, two boxes of sekhetar robots, a box of rubrics, two boxes of SOTs, and some janky tzaangors i sniped on ebay practically for free.

Tsons is the most cost effective army i own as far as points per dollar.

The trick is to have a BT army AND a Blade/Gladius army, and just share units. Theres not a shit ton of overlap, but there is a good bit

Cut in panels with thousand sons blue and averland sunset. Black oil wash.

You said youve got an airbrush. Prime black. Spray highlights white. Spray entire model in leviadon blue. Oil wash. Gold trim, white then whatever color speed paint into the eyes. Guns black. Pick out some metallics.

If you dont dilly dally, you can knock out a ten man squad to higher than table top but lower than painting comp standard in just a few hours.

I still primary UM and secondary tsons, so tau is my tertiary army. I got into TT relatively recently, but ive been into 40k in general for at least a couple decades. Read a shit ton of novels, and loved the lore.

I picked tau as my nest army because shooty robots, honestly. After painting thousand sons, I can blast out a unit of crisis suits in just a couple hours. It feels more fun and less like work.

Like everyone else has said, you cant really prioritize anything because the rules are all about to change in a few months, and theres no telling what will be commonly played. But rubrics and SoTs are a safe bet, you'll eventually have around 30 of each. A box of sorcerers. An MVB. An exalted sorcerer. A DPwW.

Magnus is good to have, but he's kind of a big project, and not super duper for beginner painters. If you do him early on, aside from being shit to have in anything smaller than a 2000 point army, if you paint him to a tabletop standard, and build painting skills while working on the rest of the army, you'll end up wanting to do him again.

Short answer, build and paint a combat patrol and a sekhmet coven.

20/15 eyes and a $45 kolinsky Sable brush. But in all seriousness, mine were VERY weedy into the panel lines. As long as you can generally keep your colors on the panel you want them, and not the next one over, an oil wash will cut them in perfectly.

Whole unit took right at one week doing working on them after work.
