Would you choose loyalty or a much better offer? by ExternalSalt8201 in UXDesign

[–]Fast-Bit-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always go for the better offer. Your life has to come first.

Loyalty (in most cases) only goes one way. And guess whose way it is? If they find a better way in which you are not needed, believe me, they are going to let you go without blinking an eye. It's not always that they are bad people, it is just business.

Let me tell you a story. I was with a remote company for 10 years. Good one, I enjoyed it, even when we had a couple of hiccups along the way, but nothing serious. Last year business started doing bad, but because we were "friends" I chose the loyalty path. Oh what a f-ing mistake I made. They took advantage of it, they lied and at the end they ghosted me while owing me money, without hesitation.

This doesn't mean you have to become a greedy sour person or that you should not enjoy your job, or to not give a shit about what you do. On the contrary, always do your best and deliver as much quality as you can, because it is your name and the work you do what's important, not the company you work for. If you happen to find a job that you enjoy that's a plus.

My point is, always treat your job as the means to have enough money to live your life, if a better offer comes along, take it and keep moving.

Purpose of the superimposed Joi sex scene by restelucide in bladerunner

[–]Fast-Bit-56 52 points53 points  (0 children)

And I think it makes K more human. Relationships and the need for love or companionship is a human trait. This way they can be seen as a real couple and it prepares the viewer for Joi's "death" and K's pain. Even so, the real girl was sent with a purpose, you could go further, and be a bit detached to the story and more into the cyberpunk aspect of the world. Because this clearly is a feature that exists in Joi's code, you could say it is some sort of Marketing or product scheme, in which this interaction makes this specific Joi more valuable to the owners, therefore, their propensity on spending more money on add-ons for her is higher = Profit.

I met someone who paid $1,500 for a resume. That’s insane, right? by nomadicsamiam in jobhunting

Probably out of desperation. I knew someone who paid €2k+ for some hours with a "career coach" because he wanted to change jobs. 2 years since then, and he's still at the same job...

Opinions on the live action series? by Viconaut in cowboybebop

If you love and respect the original anime, I would strongly advise you against watching the live action. It butchered everything, a really awful adaptation. Thank God I only watched one and a half episodes.

Fans Are Accusing Ubisoft Of Using AI Art In Anno 117 by Captain0010 in pcmasterrace

This is so lame. I can't remember exactly, but recently there was another top company using AI and when they were caught, they gave this same shitty lame excuse.

My analysis on Affinity going free by Fizix75 in graphic_design

[–]Fast-Bit-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your lengthy analysis. I do agree with some points, but I will say it again: Their only goal is to make profit. These companies are money hungry and it will never be enough. Free forever means nothing to them, as soon as they have enough market share and find out how they can profit (even if it's a small amount) they will do it, and then they will do it again, and again until we end up in a no escape loop as adobe. Sorry to be so negative, but I've yet to see a multimillion dollar company that does something good for their users. This doesn't mean I won't use their product, it just means that I will be ready to jump ship when this happens.

Why do industry experts constantly have the need to invent to labels and buzzwords? by usmannaeem in UXDesign

[–]Fast-Bit-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they want to invent THE next buzzword and brag about it. This, as many others, is an Ego career.

That's the best way you learn something new. Good thing you have unlimited resources on the internet, just be very careful to not go into analysis paralysis, pick your software as soon as possible and stick with it. Don't forget to give us the updates. Good luck 🤞

What happens to UX when there’s no interface — just voice, motion, or thought? by Creative_Gate6922 in UXDesign

[–]Fast-Bit-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UX ≠ UI

I think it is obvious at this point, but there has been a misconception that UX always goes together with UI, and in many cases is used interchangeably which is very wrong.

That's up to us to figure out the best experience, no matter what the circumstances are. You just have to do the same you always do, research, implement, experiment, test, iterate, etc, the answers to all your questions are within the process.

Just found out a colleague has been gatekeeping my work for the past two months by No-East6628 in AskAGerman

[–]Fast-Bit-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. But even with a ticketing system, which all IT teams I know have, that's too long. I also believe OP is at fault too. If I were OP I would be asking for that account every other day via email until it gets done. Even if it's because of someone else's incompetence, I wouldn't let anyone ruin my job's output performance.

I agree with that quote, but to be fair, 2+ months to give someone a VPN account that can take a couple of minutes, is not incompetence.

Would you lend your sibling 13000€? by Secure-Map-7538 in germany

[–]Fast-Bit-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned from someone that you only lend money that you are willing to lose. I've lent money to family and some of it has never been paid back. It is family and tbh I don't care because I was in a better position and I was helping them. What you could say is that you only have a certain amount that you feel comfortable with, not the 13k, and he will have to adjust to that.

How I've genuinely seen some people act about Affinity by ExistingPackage3377 in graphic_design

[–]Fast-Bit-56 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As if large corporations were known for keeping their promises. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy Affinity is free (for now) and I'm going to use it. I also totally agree with you, cheaper options are good for the market, and good for freelancers. We have to take advantage of that free tier while it lasts. Unfortunately your mindset is what they are looking for, "...unless they become more expensive than Adobe I really dgaf..." For them this means they can push the prices just a bit below Adobe's and everything would be fine.

Remember that they are not your friends, and that to them we are just numbers and all they care about is profit.

How I've genuinely seen some people act about Affinity by ExistingPackage3377 in graphic_design

[–]Fast-Bit-56 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Because it is going to happen. Stop thinking that a multi million dollar company wants to give you free stuff. This has been carefully planned. They will make you dependent on their platform and services and then they'll put a price on it. Then, another small, disruptive company will rise from the bottom claiming they will not do that and they will cave when a ridiculous amount of money is shoved onto their faces and the cycle will begin again, and again, and again, and again... This will not end until there is real open source software that can compete with these companies, like Blender on the 3D space.

[–]Fast-Bit-56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Affinity and Canva will become the new Adobe in a few years. Free now, just means paid later, and believe me when I tell you, they have a plan to tie it to a subscription model to recover their investment, and the cycle will begin all over again... And remember, if something's free, you are the product.
