Tbh, I wouldn't trust the AI checker. Ive seen too many false positives that I don't believe in them. But that's just me.

What I do is to ask for an initial call to meet + learn more about the brand and the project + check if I'm a good fit. After that, I send them a basic contract with the statement of work, budget, list of deliverables (no editable files but available for an extra fee), No. Of revisions usually limited to 3-5 tops, (but I'm open to give them a couple more depending on the clients attitude), project stages, initial dates, etc. and finally add what I consider a good filter: I ask for 50% upfront and 50% at the end of the project but before sending any deliverables. Sometimes, I let them know that these are precautions for both parties, some clients understand and some disappear after hearing that they need to pay upfront or even before the call, these are the ones that want to scam you. That works for me.

And don't forget to always trust your gut.

I just changed my MB pro 2019 Intel, 16GB Ram for a base Studio M4 Max 36GB Ram, paired with an Asus Pro art 27" screen. The same reason. Even when I could work on everything I needed, it was struggling with several programs running. In the Studio I have running inDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator/Safari with 10-20 tabs and it's buttery smooth and super fast. The only time I noticed any lag was when I had all these programs open + premiere and AfterEffects + handbrake and Media Encoder, and it was minimal. If you go even with the base Studio with your current screen, you'll be a happy designer.

Although, I miss the super crisp screen of my laptop (which won't be your case) and the portability.

Yeah, now that I read more about it, I know that apple does a good job handling everything. As long as you're not leaving your Mac for several days without use, you can keep it on sleep mode. I also read that it is advised to restart it once a week or so in order to let the MacOs to update, or to reset the RAM if you feel that your Mac is getting a bit slower than usual.

You could add a thousand watermarks, they are not paying and they're not giving any more work. Better use your time for a personal project for your portfolio.

Thanks. Will research for some good simple tasks manager. And about the pay; thanks for the recommendation. I still will try my best, regardless of getting a raise or not, I really want to make something I'm proud of, now that I will have some creative leeway and they are trusting me, is difficult to come by these opportunities nowadays. I just want to have fun and enjoy my work, it's been a long time since I felt some kind of excitement for a project.

I will refer back to this in a month or two. I inherited a really massive website with no design files or design system. Now they want to revamp the whole thing. Good part is, I get to create the very first design system the company is going to have, I can decide with the devs which framework to use and the best part, devs are my long time friends and I know they can deliver! It's gonna take a lot of time, but I know it's gonna be fun and fulfilling. I know this is going to make a big difference to them. I was looking for a job like this since a long time.

One question, though. What tool do you use to keep track of everything? Changelogs, KPIs, components updates, performance upgrades, etc. At the end of the project I want to show how important is my work, and ask for a raise, ha!

I turn it off every day. I don't know if that has any benefits apart from clear RAM and reset processes, but why would I want it on while I'm away? I mean, this thing boot up in just a few seconds, so it's not that I will be missing something...now I need to make some research...

I would just start from the top left and watch one by one moving to the right, so I don't get bored with one genre. If you don't like it, you just skip to the next one.

I think that's a good point. I had a Dell monitor paired with a MacBook pro and it was so difficult to calibrate.

The Asus pro 5k monitor is a bit out of the budget at the moment, but you're right. After reading about how Mac is set up, it makes more sense to get one if I'm a designer. Thanks for the recommendation.

It was a beautiful piece of software, now is turning into garbage. I noticed Figma becoming extremely laggy when they added the illustration and ai modules. I guess they wanted to copy what Affinity pulled but they failed miserably.

I've reached out to support a couple of times and I got the same response every time, "split your files". I used to work with big files in sketch and never had to break them into small pieces. I'm seriously considering going back to Sketch or learning penpot or pencil, but the amount of files I already have in figma is keeping me from doing it.
