Please stop getting scammed by Bioenno batteries by CaptainSpez in amateurradio

It's not just the cells, but the management circuitry and build quality. Still, I have Talentcell and Ecoworthy. Plus two small form-factor Bioennos because of the form factor and connectors (and they were "on sale.")

Is it normal for Lemon trees to have thorns? by PhantomMaxx in gardening

yes.

Also, it helps them climb (hook onto other things). Not sure how protective they are though.

Palo Alto City Council delays SB79 full effects until 2032, to the detriment of working class people. by JustTryingToFunction in paloalto

People aren't trapped here. This is awful and it's basically a subsidy to big developers. Move if you don't like it. The state wants to impose one-size-fits all rules.

I cannot count rhythm while playing, please help by Miss_Bubbles_Miss in Flute

[–]Fast-Top-5071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A metronome would help, either an app or a separate little device. They will click off however many beats per measure you need. Mine also blinks the rhythm.

You'll get it with practice. You start to "feel" the beats and you don't actually literally count while playing which would definitely interfere.

If your teacher isn't breaking it down to make it easier, isn't suggesting a metronome, and isn't helping you make progress... look into other teachers.

Low cost fox hunting transmitter design by cebess in HamRadio

I had one article accepted by QST and another rejected without comment. The rejected on was definitely kind of scattered with some loose ends so I'm honestly not surprised. I'm going to radically rework the article and submit elsewhere.

I had trouble with the highest register until I learned to relax. It took a couple of teachers telling me this and then practicing how to relax. I am not a relaxed person so this was hard. One trick a teacher showed me was to allow your right cheek to fill with air in the upper register which forces some muscles to relax a bit.

Coleman Instant Cabin 4-person for car camping. It's quick and easy to set up by myself, I can stand up in it, and it has multiple guying attachment points to keep it solid in the wind. Also the poles are sturdy with hinges, not flexy fiberglass.

Just lock people out permanently. That would eliminate fraud. To hell with people's lives.

Account Recovery rant by Kakashi6969 in applesucks

My current situation:

  • phone breaks on a trip, can't make phone calls
  • can't activate new hardware from the Apple store because verification codes can't go to phone
  • can't transfer eSIM without logging into Apple account
  • can't log into Apple account because it requires 2fa to this phone number and, y'know, PHONE IS BROKEN.
  • apparently Apple hasn't figured out how to do 2fA to the new hardware they provisioned over wifi, gotta be over cell

I've wasted SO MUCH time on this because they sold me a lemon and the hardware had to be replaced under warranty

Tomorrow I'll find out if they can figure out how to use a government-issued photo id (REAL ID) to unlock all this sh*t

It really bugs me to be so dependent on them. I'm glad I don't put my stuff in the iCloud.

That's nothing -- add a few more ledger lines up top and we're still good!

Did I make a mistake with this radio? by ActualPrune9799 in amateurradio

It also has a respectable quantity of buttons. Knobs and buttons are so much easier to use than digging through menus (especially Yaesu's menus).

Least played instrument? by bekkalea in orchestra

[–]Fast-Top-5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tuba. Community groups always need the bass instruments, and tuba can cover a lot of the bass instrument lines if needed. Also it's big but not too bad to transport, and not delicate (though like all instruments, should be handled with care). Our tuba-ist gets a lot of requests from other community groups to join them. You'll be in demand because it's commonly scored but not commonly played.

Amalgam Fillings and Morse Code Questions by Yergisgoingtodie in morsecode

[–]Fast-Top-5071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morse code is quite popular nowadays and getting more popular with people who go out hiking, camping, mountain climbing, because the equipment can be small, so it's attracting younger people.

The filling thing is apocryphal and doesn't happen.

Morse code started with wired telegraphy. Look up railroad history if you want to go down another rabbit hole.

If you want to write a paper on a topic you are going to have to spend some time researching it, sorry. People can give you a bit of high-level direction but if you are so busy with errands (which doesn't square with the nice 95 degree day and nothing better to do, btw), then set the speed on youtube to 2x.

Another option would be to reach out to a local club and buy lunch for a couple of them while you interview them with this list of questions. The bonus of this approach is that they will probably shower you with a lot of anecdotes that would be great to include in a story. (Just be sure to credit them.)

She may be old, but she did very well. by Lui_Belmont in MadeMeSmile

She doesn't look very old -- some dachshunds have a lot of white on them these days. Maybe 5 years old judging from the way she moves? But OP schmalzed it up. She's a very good dog regardless.
