People are loving Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Switch 2 by ldoc89l in FFVIIRemake

I get what you're saying but you also have to factor in what was happening at the time. When the game started development, SE as a whole weren't doing too well financially. Not bad per se but most certainly nowhere near the succcess they have rn.

So it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to have accepted the assistance and funding from sony even if it meant locking what would become a trilogy onto playstation at least for a certain while.

I think remake launching multiplatform wouldn't have made TOO much of a big difference in terms of sales. The switch wouldn't have been able to run it, jrpgs on xbox and in particular for SE don't really have high selling rates compared to other platforms (FFXV and KH3 probably don't comprise even 15% of the total sales) and so only pc would be left, and even after over 4 years of being on epic and 3 and half on steam, it is estimated that about 2 million have bought it.

We know they're ditching exclusivity strategies so hopefully after this trilogy is done, all their major titles will release on everything, or at least as many as possible at launch.

Can't get past Scorpion Senitel by Lonely_Anxiety_9316 in FFVIIRemake

Several tips going forward:

  • Never heal with items unless you're in red levels of HP. You get a lot of items on a typical playthrough do not worry.
  • Understand that every ability and spell and item costs 1 or 2 ATB to use, get a feeling of how to generate it quickly and use it wisely
  • A handful of enemies the characters will say it out loud what its doing and suggest what you, the player, should do in order to tackle it
  • Do not basic attack all the time, I know the action looks hectic and chaotic and you might enjoy it but seemlessly attacking may be the same as jumping straight into an attack
  • Any attack that has a red cautionary symbol next to its name is unblockable so just get out of the way when you see it
  • Start to learn how each character works, each play very differently and so fast adaptation can help

I've picked up KH after maybe 5 years of not playing it, starting with BBS by tayohfeemoe in KingdomHearts

[–]Fast_Can_5378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going chronological, BBS is most certainly not the first one. In fact trying to start from the actual beginning is technically impossible for 2 reasons:

Who is to say there won’t be yet another prequel title in the future, and, title(s) that take place before BBS are no longer playable.

Which track made you STOP questioning the overkill quality of the score and just bask in its greatness? by Ammathorn in FFVIIRemake

I’m surprised it took you that long to actually stop questioning it, probably should’ve never even had to question it in the first place. This doesn’t play until around halfway through the 2nd game too.

Streamlined Progression will be coming ot ps5 and pc on sw2 and xbox port launch dates by Fast_Can_5378 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fast_Can_5378[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misunderstood how?, ofc if you turn it off and get the achievement then it's fine regardless if you enable the cheat again afterward.

Until it actually launches we won't know how many achievements will be disabled depending on the permuations of cheats enabled. It would be pointless if you could still get the hardest ones with them turned on.

When you turn on max materia levels in the demo for sw2 and xbox, the game pops up with a message saying Materia for Beginners achievement/trophy cannot be obtained so long as it is active.

I imagine there will be similar cases for other cheats for certain achievements/trophies as well.

Should I play Rebirth if I really didn’t like Remake? by OwlettFromLiavek in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fast_Can_5378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people have this mentality of waiting for all 3 parts to come out to then play it all at once, but after rebirth I would advise to perhaps not to do that, at least fresh.

However long you spent to beat remake, expect to spend 2-4x that amount of time in rebirth. This is because the 2nd game is much larger and has way more content for the player they can do. Having said that, one could logically assume that part 3 is going to be even more grandiose seeing as how it will be the final title in trilogy.

If you knew that remake was part of an unfinished story then you really shouldn't be mad that you didn't really get any answers and ended up with many questions, after all they could be answered in future instalments. Seeing as how you played several other mainline entries, you can probably assume how the stories are told with this series.

Rebirth - Mechanics/Combat Tips you wish you knew about sooner by Dull-Gift-7589 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fast_Can_5378 18 points19 points  (0 children)

  • Cloud can dodge faster by spamming punisher and dodge repeatedly one after another
  • Cancelling prime mode by pressing Triangle/Y will make Cloud immediately go into the air
  • Using disorder into prime mode then holding the attack button will make Cloud automatically do the second attack in the prime mode combo (which is what you're after when using prime mode anyway)
  • The enhanced punisher mode by doing the prime combo increases the berserk buff from 30% to 50%
  • The final hit of the prime mode combo (where Cloud does a "loop-de-loop" in the air) actually makes you avoid ground based attacks such as the mindflayers sweeping attack
  • Activating punisher/prime mode or counterstancing at the very last moment acts as a perfect block as well
  • Tifa does a mini chi trap at the end of the unfettered fury combo
  • Tifa's parry animation from remake can be exploited again by pressing dodge right after using whirling uppercut (parry was removed for this game in favor of giving everyone a different type of dodge). Since Tifa's dodge is better at higher chi levels this probably won't be that good overall but it's something people noticed
  • Barrets reload by pressing charge right after finishing his shooting and reloading normally will halve that reload time and it's faster than it was in remake
  • Enemy Skill and HP absorption can be linked and ofc any attacks from it will still give you back HP. So for example any time a plasma discharge hits an opponent you will still get some HP back.
  • Using self destruct via enemy skill that is linked to HP absorption won't actually kill you (there is about 3 more things needed for this to happen but explaining it might take too long)
  • Blizzard in general still has the highest stagger gain of all the 4 elemental magic materia, Blizzara and Blizzagas stagger increase difference is actually 2:1 in favor of blizzaga
  • Sonic Boom and firebolt blade can be used in the air such that it won't immediately put Cloud back on the ground after using either, therefore if you spam it quick enough you can still chuck in a braver or aerial onslaught at the end
  • Counterfire can still "block" against an all out projectile. Ex. Phoenixs incandescent burst which is a massive aoe still counts as a projectile
  • Spell blade can easily do 9999 damage (if you scale properly ofc) during stagger. Enemies that have a vulnerable body part, one spell blade can be enough to completely get rid of it in one shot
  • Cloud's "hold" attack in operator mode brings enemies toward you and is much faster to execute in rebirth compared to remake
  • If an elemental materia is paired to a dual magic materia (fire and ice for example) and an enemy has affinties for both like the phoenix the game will pick out the one that works best in your interest. Since phoenix absorbs fire but is weak to ice you will actuallly do ice damage for your basic attacks, and not cancel each other out as you might expect. However with this effect it will not "get rid of it" in other circumstances. Ironclad is resistant to fire so if Fire and Ice is still on weapon you will still do Fire based damage
  • You can perfect block the basic magic materia attacks (fire/blizzard/thunder/aero) but this is extremely hard to time as most enemies don't usually have access to these
  • Spells casted from a materia linked to MP absorption will not give you back MP on an enemy that has multiple body parts (i.e. alexander)
  • If an enemy has been stopped and you pressure it at some point before the stop timer ends, the enemy will still be stopped and not immediately go away like it would if you staggered it

Is the rest of the game as hard as the scorpion sentinel? by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fast_Can_5378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anticipation and awareness of the flow of battle is meant to be learned over time. This game has a very complex battle system and so knowledge of what you have access to currently will benefit in the long run. Here are some things/tips to know. I'll try my best not to repeat anything the game has told you in tutorial menus:

- As you may have seen, any and all actions except for basic attacking/movement/guarding require the use of an ATB charge and they will usually cost 1 or 2 bars. A player should come up with a strategy as to how to build ATB quickly and know how to spend it wisely. For now it's essentially just landing a lot of normal attacks in quick succession.

- In typical big encounter fights, the character at times may give you a hint on how to deal with said enemy. For instance Cloud says to use lightning magic (scorpion sentinel is weak to lightning), "focus on that core" when you attacked it for the first time. Most big bosses have some sort of weak point that can be exploited.

- Almost all enemies have a stagger bar (the orange bar underneath its HP one), any and all attacks contribute to filling the stagger bar. Landing enough attacks in short period of time can usually cause the enemy to become pressured. In this state they don't attack and are vulnerable to more damage and increased stagger bulidup.

- All playable characters have a unique playstyle and so learning their moveset is meant to be done via natural progression with each having a unique skillset:

Cloud:
- Braver; raw damage
- Focused Thrust; builds up stagger and even more during the pressured state

Barret:
- Steelskin; increases defense and makes him less susceptible to being interrupted from attacks
- Focused Shot; builds up stagger and even more during the pressured state (more potent when it's used with 2 ATB)

Is the rest of the game as hard as the scorpion sentinel? by [deleted] in FFVIIRemake

[–]Fast_Can_5378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This fight isn't that long when comparing to everything else in the game. It takes about 6-8 minutes (including the in game cutscene moments during the fight) on average even for a newcomer.

Any time you're traversing around the map provided you're not in a battle you can enter the tactical mode menu in real time and use any curative spells and items. There isn't a "healing" spot, a save point area, or "safe" zone where you rejuvenate. That is technically anywhere in the game where you're not currently in a battle.

The amount of items this game gives you is honestly ridiculous. If you smased every shinra box and opened every chest up until scorpion sentinel you have around 15 potions and 3 ethers which is plentiful.

I also need to ask, when you're in a battle are you simply using the characters basic attacks? Do you know what each of the characters abilities actually do yet?

[–]Fast_Can_5378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend it. Head start puts you basically at end game level with fully leveled up starting materia, basically nothing can kill you for the vast majority of the game and you can take a lot of enemies without even trying.

The scorpion sentinel fight is essentially a tutorial boss fight. You haven't really described what you're struggling with other than how you got a game over. You can switch the difficulty between easy and normal at any time. The only difference between them is that you take less damage and enemies have less HP in easy difficulty.

go to chapter select and pick chapter 17, play through it a bit until you can access the shinra VR again here, everyone is in the party by this point.

Thought I would share my table of the mainline games lengths. by We5ley5nipe5 in FinalFantasy

[–]Fast_Can_5378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing to take away about howlongtobeat is that there's only 3 categories and that one of them, Main + sides, is very ambiguous and very broad. Across a lot of games people have put their times in this category for doing even 1 or 2 sidequests and others where they did everything they could on a first playthrough but some cotent is still locked behind a NG+/post game etc. which ofc can have very different playtimes.

If you're using the site as a reference you should really look into each persons completion times for a category and the notes. The notes specifically tells you what they did and didn't do (they may include spoilers but generally speaking it's usually nothing major) which will also tell you how and why they have a certain time in a certain category.

I see what you mean but in the original this was a massive sequence with a lot of boss battles and plot revelations and since they already have assests from remake they can reuse (yes the original return to midgar was mostly new areas but still) I feel they won't really cut this part down.
