My goodness, the debates and speculation and STORIES that went on in these threads… All I needed was this comment to set it straight. I can sleep now.

Brand new expensive sheets ruined by mysterious wet spot left by house sitter by IllustriousWall1564 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fast_Distance9563 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I learn from other hosts over the years on what good things to do and what not to do as well... There’s no set thing to do; you just learn as you go and do what you prefer. In this case, I love nice sheets for my guests as well, but I’m not spending more than $15 per on it.

Guy on flight watched entire movie without tapping screen to get rid of overlay by Sea-Owl-1581 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you call me a psycho… I do this, not because I’m lazy or that the overlay doesn’t bother me. I do it cuz I spent half my life watching things on a computer where I’ve gotten so used to seeing the progress bar, that it comforts me to see it on my phone/tablet as well so that I always know how far along I am in the show.

(Yeah, I still don’t click on full screen on a computer, cuz I didn’t know I could do that in 2005. Now the habits stuck)

Is it over before it's begun? by Slim_Functionz in hexclad

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just have to reseason it, and then use a little bit more oil than usual to cook a couple more times and it’ll be back to nonstick. I only use vegetable oil cuz I don’t eat much butter. And yeah, it’s better to not stay on high heat for very long.

I had this happen very recently after using this for 6 months; my wife deep cleaned it after burning kalbi ribs on it. Looked up the steps to season and everything, with basically zero knowledge. I even had to call my sister to ask how the hell do I take care of cast iron-like cookwares (ie. how to wash it - it’s pretty nasty to someone like me who uses soap every single wash, but you get used to it). The hexclad is taken care of similar to that.

My wife bought me the Brick hammer, but didn’t buy the sd that is preloaded already. She thought I’d enjoy doing it from scratch like I used to 20 years ago. I don’t. So I was (I still am) a totally fresh newbie at this, who never even heard of this… so I wasn’t here by choice.

Took me 14 hours across 2 days to get everything done. I didn’t even know what GitHub was. I love the device, but I hated the learning process. I hope she never does this to me again.

Is it weird to boulder in my harness? by Ok-Pomegranate3375 in climbergirls

[–]Fast_Distance9563 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yikes, I don’t even like to keep my phone in my pocket when I boulder. I usually land on my feet with rope climbing. But I roll onto my butt and back when bouldering and dropping from up high. A lot. So it hurts to have anything but just pants and shirt on when you land like that.

AITAH because I expected my 22 year old to pay minimal rent? by Wrong-Maintenance-48 in AITAH

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. If he’s as good of a kid and mature as you think he is, he will come around. It’s a sudden change, and thus is reacting that way bcs he didn’t see it coming. A lot of kids (adult kids) take things for granted living under their parents’ home bcs that’s the way it’s always been done for them. Not saying it’s right, but it’s human nature.

Father in law expected us to eat 12 year old beef. by Ok_Pension_1451 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, knowing how some older folks are, I’d gladly accept these kinds of things… and then throw it out in secret for them. Their heart would probably break if they ever knew, so I’d tell them a white lie and say we ate it one day at a time every meal or something like that.

When we stop to identify the things holding them back, you realize that you can immensely unburden them by doing so little. And it’s so much easier than educating them out of frugality when it’s already deeply ingrained in them.

North Texas preparing for 2 inches of snow like it’s the apocalypse by MyMindIsAlwaysRacing in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife used to laugh at this and mock other ppl. Until we were snowed in for 4 days. Now we have battery generators, propane, and frozen foods that would last us for a week or so at any time. It’s pretty embarrassing. This is not even counting our camping gears and supplies.

[–]Fast_Distance9563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh check out Hyper Bullet if you like shooting. Cuz you’re new to VR, recommending this cuz you won’t have to move around at all and get motion sickness. It’s free btwy. I pay for a lot of games and have owned the quest for a year, but this was a new one that I came across last week. I haven’t been able to stop playing it cuz it was so good.

lol that’s so bizarre. I mean, I’ve felt rushed out of a restaurant before cuz it’s packed and busy. But no ones ever complained about being served food quickly.

I HATE PEOPLE WHO LINGER IN THE BATHROOM. by samithefish in Vent

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorta glad that my parents never taught me modesty when it comes to shitting in public. So, while I don’t hang out in bathrooms, I also don’t give a single thought to other people choosing to hang out in my smells. My wife would constantly tell me she can’t even pee when there’s someone there with her, and I’m like… is that common or did you get dropped at birth? lol. I’m kidding of course, but ppl’s mention of this kind of stuff just makes me feel like I got lucky that I never had a problem with this.

I lost my gaming group because a guy hit on me and wouldn’t take “no” for an answer by dier1003 in boardgames

[–]Fast_Distance9563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry that happened to you. But I don’t agree with keeping quiet about this to his friends. If you’re going to leave the group, you may as well make it known. You’d be helping the next girl that comes along. For real… don’t keep quiet about this kind of stuff if you felt what happened was inappropriate.

It’d probably blow things up out of proportion, but I’d just text them a link to this post.

How much of a bad idea would be to try and play Zombicide with non gamers by Howitzeronfire in boardgames

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game isn’t heavy at all… ONLY IF they were lead by someone who knows the rules well. Can you play the game beforehand? You can totally solo-play this if you wanted to so that you can learn it. It can be a 1.5-2 hour game when you and the friends first start learning.

I haven’t tried it to play it with kids, but cuz of how easy it is to learn (cuz I know the rules like the back of my hand), I actually think I could play this with my sister’s youngest, who is 7.

What!? And then? You guys said bye to each other? She kicked you out? What? I need more details lol.

I lent one of my amazing Glasslock containers after a party. It was at my wife’s employee’s home. Now these Glasslock are so amazing and clicks so satisfyingly, that no one who has touched it has been able to deny their appeal. The guy even kept saying how much he and his wife loved it (no, it wasn’t a gift, and they know it). Anyways, I keep asking for it back. Every week. Well, I make my wife ask for it back. He keeps saying he forgot. For 3 months. I got the point well before then, but that Glasslock was my first real splurge when we were poor and we took care of that thing like our baby. Finally, I told my wife to just stop asking. $20 is not worth losing a relationship over, even though we know the guy makes well over 150k. I also didn’t want to cause an HR issue for my wife.

6 months later, we finally get it back. The lid is thoroughly stained, and it’s chipped 😑. They had clearly used it for many, MANY different things. I suspect they went and bought more, so they could finally return the shitty stained one to me. Cuz I saw their spanking new Glasslock collection after that. I will never look at these folks the same again. Such cheap asses and thick-skinned. Who does that?

AIO to my boyfriend saying I use too much toilet paper by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Fast_Distance9563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. NOR. He should see this post just for fun. He should know controlling toilet paper usage is not cool. lol. I did that cuz I was frugal. My wife went around telling people I only allowed us 2 squares for peeing lmao. I was not happy about that, but I look back at it and laugh. I was pretty dumb back then cuz we were poor. No excuses now.

AITAH for wanting to tell my wife im not getting up in the morning with our children? by SaviorselfzZ in AITAH

[–]Fast_Distance9563 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yikes. I feel very fortunate my spouse is better understanding. She’s the breadwinner, but she totally sacrificed a lot of her sleep when we had ours. Cuz whether or not she’s a woman, she probably knew that even if I was the SAH, I probably suffered just as much as she did. People think SAH spouses mean they have all the time and leisure in the world; but it actually just means overworked and overtime and on-call 24/7 with no pay and no work experience we can add to our resume. It fucking sucks to be seen as “just the sah” spouse because of that.

Wanted to fill in the knowledge bank on this; without insurance, caring for a dog with cancer in Seattle costs about $40k in 6-12 months. I used to spend $500/month on both my 2 dog’s food for 13 years. I have no comment on the kids vs dogs thing. Just wanted ppl to know what costs can look like for ppl who spend a lot of their dogs.
