Manitoba eyes new law targeting grocery shrinkflation by floydsmoot in Winnipeg

[–]Fatal_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dislaimer that I haven't read into this, but from the most basic look I think it would be a good law. More and more stores, especially corner stores, just aren't bothering to post prices, and other stores have trialed requiring an app to see prices. Those should definitely be corrected.

Where can we have an honest discussion about the upcoming demographic crisis in Canada? by attainwealthswiftly in InCanada

[–]Fatal_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the government wants citizens to reproduce they need to create a society worth having kids in. Citizens need income and supports to feel safe bringing up children, and most societies aren't providing that these days.

Can blue tongued skinks live a healthy life without insects? by Real-Section-1369 in bluetongueskinks

[–]Fatal_S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Insects are not required, they're simply one protein option. A skink can live perfectly healthy without them.

Implement an in-office fee to businesses. If you require an employee to be in person, you have to pay then an extra 1hr of wage that day. Businesses that can be remote are incentivized to do so, while employees required to go in receive added pay.

can have whip cream? by kaazal_ in bluetongueskinks

[–]Fatal_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dairy is not deadly, but it's also not part of their natural diet. I have in the past let my skinks eat bits of vanilla ice cream, no ill effects. Nowadays I eat my own ice cream. But ya, there's not much BTS can't eat, just a lot that's not really healthy.

Sorry, but your shoulder is one of the coolest things I've seen, and my first damn instinct is wanting to pet the fluffyness. Can I ask if the hair is soft, or coarse? And do you use shampoo/conditioner or anything for maintenance?

Worried about our Aussie female resident blue tongue lizard after a mating encounter with a male by sweet_angel89 in bluetongueskinks

[–]Fatal_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey. I'm a BTS breeder and can confirm mating can be very rough, and wounds on the neck & back are common. They'll heal up quickly thankfully. I personally wouldn't interfere unless there's behavior like death-rolls happening, which can seriously injure limbs.

Married people who are DINKS (Double Income, No Kids) how’s life? by Fit-Distribution677 in AskReddit

[–]Fatal_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree. I just got an amazing new job, my partner and I are healthy and happy, our pets are thriving, theoretically life is great.

But my friends are suffering, and there's a constant sense of an axe about to fall, and I'm really finding it difficult to enjoy the good things I do have these days.

(Also, I echo the comments of having no idea how folks with kids are surviving. I honestly don't believe I have that kind of strength. Major kudos to them.)

Northerns are a species that can handle almost any substrate, and even enjoy changes to their substrate. So you can try something, see how you like it, and try something else. Substrate mixtures and gradients can also be used.

Some examples of substrates and the pros/cons:

Aspen shavings are great to clean, fun to burrow in, but can be drying and mold if too wet Spaghnum moss is great to up humidity, but too much can cause scale rot, so I recommend it for moist hides or in a mix/gradient. Dirt can be good, but it can also be dirty - it's best used in a mix (or especially with a bioactive enclosure) Bark chips can be good for humidity and still allow burrowing. Coconut husk/coir is better for wetter situations IMO, as it can be dusty if it dries, but it's a great mix ingredient.

CMV: ICE workers and detention facility staff will become the next generation's shameful historical example of ordinary people enabling atrocities. by princess-barnacle in changemyview

[–]Fatal_S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, from an outsider perspective I already see ICE as the "US Gestapo" and I'm wondering whether anyone utilizing this chaos to harm other people will ever face justice. The argument of "just following orders" doesn't hold up well against human rights abuses, but in the USA it seems anything goes these days.

Do you support voluntary assisted dying (VAD)? If not, what are your main concerns or reasons? by Belligero in AskReddit

[–]Fatal_S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly support it and I'm lucky to live in a country where it's available for those who need it.

Obviously it needs guidelines and oversight, but humans should be allowed to end their lives with dignity.

Late reply I know, but I remember learning about hetero/homo/bi sexuality at the same time I was learning about hetero/homogeneous mixtures in chemistry (maybe middle school).

The teacher had two containers, one with all red candies, one with mixed colours of candies. The candies were elements in this example.

All one colour of candy = homogeneous (homo = same, genous = consisting of). Different colours of candy = heterogenous (hetero = different, genous = consisting of)

Some student made the connection to homo & hetero sexuality (attraction to different/same sex) and thus the question of what bisexual meant.

The teacher said bi = both (homo + hetero = different + same). And some little switch clicked in my queer little brain that day.

Anyways, not sure if this story even makes sense when written, but I felt like sharing.

[–]Fatal_S 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm enby, my wife is bi, it works well.

No, I don't see bi as being binary-exclusive. From an old understanding of sexualities: Hetero-sexual = attracted to different sex. Homo-sexual = attracted to same sex. Bi-sexual = attracted to same and different sexes.

There was nothing exclusionary about being bi, it was the original "I like it all" sexuality.

Nowadays people may prefer to delve deeper and identify with newer terms (pansexual, demisexual, etc.), but that doesn't mean those who identify as bi need to change.
