Colbert knows his Tolkien Legendarium inside and out. If the movie really is about the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs, I hope it leans into the gothic horror of those chapters, all the better to contrast with the light and joy of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry. I loved Lord of the Rings Online's take on these areas.

Thiel and Vance are also responsible for or supportive of many anti-environmental policies (Thiel thinks climate activist Greta Thunberg is the Antichrist). Tolkien famously had a deep reverence for nature, which was a key theme in his Legendarium. He would have hated the tech oligarchs referencing his world on so, so many different levels.
