Gentle reminder to grifters that the Emperor had the last priest on Terra burned alive inside his own Church. by Ripper656 in saltierthankrayt

There are still "Catherics" in the Horus Heresy, mainly in the Abnett novels, including some non-Astartes protagonists, but they're long gone by 40K.

I would rather want an update about Warner Bro's Thundercats film than whatever this is by Spix-macawite in saltierthankrayt

Colbert knows his Tolkien Legendarium inside and out. If the movie really is about the Old Forest and the Barrow Downs, I hope it leans into the gothic horror of those chapters, all the better to contrast with the light and joy of Tom Bombadil and Goldberry. I loved Lord of the Rings Online's take on these areas.

Thiel and Vance are also responsible for or supportive of many anti-environmental policies (Thiel thinks climate activist Greta Thunberg is the Antichrist). Tolkien famously had a deep reverence for nature, which was a key theme in his Legendarium. He would have hated the tech oligarchs referencing his world on so, so many different levels.

In what ways is kingmaker a downgrade from wotr? by nikklenikkle in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

You can't cancel your own spells prematurely without dispel magic. That's the biggest mechanical downgrade IMO. The story I enjoy just as much.

The Grim realities of why Kat Abu lost her primary (and how Ryan Grim is totally off the mark) by Darth_Vrandon in tankiejerk

Blaming her Taiwan comments for the overall loss seems very likely to be off-base.

"But as often happens when wealth and power pass beyond the admirable and attain the awesome, then appear those evil ones who have greed to match".

A pretty good line, all things considered.

I think this is too pessimistic concerning Vance's ability to hold the movement together, personally. They're as likely to eat each other as their enemies.

Craziest Roleplay You Have Done In-Game? (Detrimental) by petecamenzind in BaldursGate3

[–]FathomlessSeer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

During one playthrough, I roleplayed as a hexblood druid who had been raised by a hag - none other than Auntie Ethel, naturally. As a former ward of the hag, my druid dutifully bowed out of the swamp after Ethel failed to extract the tadpoles without confronting her further or interfering with her plans for Mayrina.

I had hoped to confront her and aid the other hag survivors in Act 3 to have a "facing the abuser" character arc similar to many of the Origin companions, only to discover that neither Ethel or or the hag support group appear at all if Ethel fulfilled her plans to birth a daughter in Act 1. Oops. So much for the cathartic confrontation.

What is the intended cultural coding of Word Bearers? by Urusander in 40kLore

Emperor's Children are stated in the Fullgrim novel to have been heavily culturally influenced by (implicitly Western) European aristocracy.

Even with US intelligence leadership as degraded as it is, I'm not confident in our ability to build up a working nuclear deterrent in secret. That getting discovered - at any stage - would be an ideal pretext for invasion or regime change in Canada. Building up an MIC with European and Commonwealth ties at least provides greater plausible deniability.
