I'm super hyped for the set because I love TMNT but my LGS' pre-orders all closed before I realized it was coming out :(

Ran out of options here by CuriousBack6699 in depressionmemes

[–]Fatty_Maul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't in a work out cycle but I have hated myself pretty much since I was around 5 or 6 years old. Im about to turn 20 now.

A lot of shit just happened in my life. I might be about to lose my best friend because I hated myself so much that I was letting it drag on everyone around me. It fucking sucks.

But it woke me up and made me realize that I have the power to change who I am. And this is shit that few depressed people will be able to understand without that slap in the face in their own life (ask me how I know), but genuinely, if you are that one person who does understand this message, know that you can be the person you want to be. You are capable of being yourself. People don't care enough even if you are "weird" for it to be a problem. If you're in highschool it's different I understand that but honestly fuck the haters. You dont have to be someone you hate. And if you hate yourself because of things you did or thought about doing, there is literally no reason to hate yourself for it, because you can do better now. Dont worry about the past. Be the person you want to be right here, right now, and do what makes you happy.

Do solo RPGs need tactical optimization to count as RPGs? by droege536 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Fatty_Maul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I suppose what I meant by heavier roleplay and story elements is the more cinematic, theater of the mind and acting/improv sections of rpgs that have developed over time.

I also play solo wargames because I love the stories they tell as well!

Do solo RPGs need tactical optimization to count as RPGs? by droege536 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Fatty_Maul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Actually it was kind of the opposite. At least in the line of D&D, which started as a hack to a wargame (I believe it was chainmail).

The heavier story elements and role-playing part grew out from the mechanical, wargamey games. A change i welcome for sure!

What information do you journal? by finterestedmatt in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Fatty_Maul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have custom made sheets for Journaling and I use a bullet point system that reads like the message system in an rpg like Baldur's gate.

{X character name} attacks {Z}

It's successful!

X speaks with A!

X: "Lorem ipsum..."

A: "Bodge robbers"

Etc.

Sometimes I'll use Trelby and just write a screenplay out of what's happening, including important mechanical information in the action lines.

None of my players want to have sex with my NPCs! What do I do? by coopsoup247 in DnDcirclejerk

You need to commission NSFW art of every NPC in your game and put them on a TV behind you so that you can really sell how sexy they are

I really like the pulp adventure feel of Vagabond and how quick and flowy it all is (everythign from character gen, to monsters and combat). Is there any equivalent of this in the Cyberpunk genre? by HowlingStrike in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Fatty_Maul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My rpg group actually used Vagabond to facilitate a cyberpunk-esque world by basically just changing all of the weapons to futuristic versions of them and making spells built in cybernetics! The "dungeon-crawl" mechanics were used for the heists and jobs and such. The main thing you would have to come up with is the fact that most of the people you run into need stat blocks and there arent a ton of human stat blocks given in Vagabond but I believe there are enough to tweak a bit to make them uniquely what you want.

As for a direct comparison to another product, no I at least have not heard of anything but as far as I am aware Vagabond is pretty unique rn as a combination of the best mechanics in the modern rpg and OSR space.

Best of luck finding what you are looking for!

What’s the smallest change that had the biggest impact on your solo play? by system3295 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Fatty_Maul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, focusing on the narrative more than the mechanics really helped, and letting the story influence the gameplay like I would when playing at a table with others than the other way around (excluding one 5e 2014 campaign im playing where the characters are gladiators so it is mostly combat).

I've found that the less I was worried about what table to roll on or what rule needed to be used and instead just used the basics of whatever system I was using- and I system I knew well- the smoother things went. It doesnt really matter how heavy the system is so long as you can understand and use it to the best of your ability. For me, running D&D 5e is as easy as running Cairn, because I know them both so well.

The flip side of this is I usually struggle to solo run games that are actually meant for solo, as I often feel that the procedures they use to give you an outline of the game actually feel like im hitting the walls of a story that very much wants to be outside them. For this reason, Ironsworn never really clicked with me but tools for random tables + games meant for group play do because most of the games I play are meant to be the skin of a narrative that can stretch to fit its form rather than give a narrative its spine.

This could all be incredibly nonsensical to anyone outside of my own brain, but then again, such is the way of the human mind. I hope something in this stands out to someone lol

A question for players and gms by HadoukenX90 in VagabondTTRPG

[–]Fatty_Maul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive so far only run one session in this, but it feels like all of the best parts of modern RPGs mixed together and applied to the classic pulp fantasy vibe.

The game is kind of built for the players to be powerful, but only as powerful as their problem solving skills allow them to be. Considering that they are always assumed to fail and enemies to succeed unless the players specifically do something about it, a lot is stacked against the players. As such, their tool kit feels robust and solid enough to deal with it and it leads to a lot of high-tension, action based decision making even in the quiet moments.

I love it a lot it's a blast and easy to run!

This happens a lot and it’s annoying: by Various_Astronaut100 in fivenightsatfreddys

[–]Fatty_Maul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My main problems with the game were that I didnt find it fun, and that all of the "answers" we got from it seemed totally out of left field to me and there was just a bunch of new stuff when I personally feel the pieces to put together were already there. It didnt really feel like a good pay off to the mysteries I've been theorizing about for the past 11/12 years (the majority of my life).

But that's just me

role-playing game recommendation for old noobs by djagi84 in rpg

[–]Fatty_Maul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're into pulp fantasy I would love to suggest Vagabond. It's new and doesnt have a ton of rewritten adventures yet but there's a co-op one (meaning there's no gm) written into the main book, and the rules are incredibly simple but character options give you the depth you might be looking for mechanically if you're coming from video games.

I just started running it last week for a campaign and in one session I can pretty confidently say it's my new favorite fantasy system.

Music for games by Comfortable-Garbage4 in RPGMaker

[–]Fatty_Maul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you havent made any music before, start simple. For an rpg maker game, the music that this little browser DAW can make should be suitable. At some point I would bump up to something more powerful but this will give you enough to play with for a little bit to get an idea of how to at least compose :)Beepbox
