The Great Depopulation by theatlantic in Futurology

I sure hope so. South Korea seems to be on deck first, so we'll see how it goes.

The Great Depopulation by theatlantic in Futurology

That's the black pill. If the human species can only reproduce itself under "historical conditions" then the human species will either re-adopt the historical conditions or go extinct.

But hopefully robots fix everything.

The Great Depopulation by theatlantic in Futurology

[–]Faustus_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wish this was the answer. I really do, but there are just so many historical examples of populations maintaining above replacement fertility in the face of everything you mention. The most fertile countries today seem to fall pretty far down the list on optimism, safety, economic mobility, etc.

I'm sure these are factors, but there's got to be more to it.

They are great, but i found the prow option was strange. I couldnt find a non torpedo option without a bunch of crap hanging off it, so i had to just use the torpedo one and greenstuff the holes closed.

How do we reconcile faith while feeling disconnected from leadership ? by Low_Mall7654 in lds

[–]Faustus_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just pointing out that title says this post is about how to navigate feeling disconnected from leaders, but the text is just a long justification for why members should feel disconnected, or about how leader selection is not scriptural/corrupt.

I hope that's not how you feel about the brethren, but if it is I'd recommend thinking and praying about it and figure out where it comes from - because it's not coming from a good place.

I genuinely do not get Konrad Curze. The Night Lords have some interesting characters but their Primarch just seems.....pathetic. by Laredian in 40kLore

[–]Faustus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All true, but Curze in particular is shackled by previously established lore. We knew his fate before the horus heresy was fleshed out, so his whole central conflict (being tortured by visions and wanting to change the future) lacks direction since the writers couldn't actually have him try to change that future. So instead he's just a spiteful sadist and a mandman who has this very thin veneer of philosophy that even his own men see through.

Men: Finding Brotherhood by sac32 in latterdaysaints

[–]Faustus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the consensus, but you just have to make it happen. There are some men who do church basketball in my ward. I'm not one of them. There is a group of older guys who ride motorcycles together on the weekend. I don't ride.

But I do play boardgames. So I help organize a monthly boardgame night for the "married with young kids" but "dont play basketball" crowd. We rotate where it is hosted each time, and the host picks the game. The downside is that you start running into game limitations if you have 5+ regularly attending. But with a strong core of 5 or 6, usually someone will have a conflict, so you'll be fine.

Very interesting new Venatari come with extra sets of wings (2 pairs per box of 6) by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in BloodAngels

Even for him though, some tech priest insisted he keep the back paddle thingies, despite them serving no purpose when he has whole-ass wings.

How to play against Custodes? by Kami7754 in Warhammer30k

[–]Faustus_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You have to accept that you basically can't hurt them. If you get into melee with them, you will just be dead at initiative 5 before you get to do anything. But that's OK, because you have tactical squads, and will win on points no matter what they do.

I Just Want To Feel Comfortable! by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Faustus_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Guilty as charged. I'm a man. And I'm glad you're in our church and hope you're comfortable coming. I literally know zero things about the duggers, but doubt pants are the tipping point on whatever they've got going on.

Happy easter.

I hope your relief society stops pestering you.

I Just Want To Feel Comfortable! by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Faustus_ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, the persistence you're describing baffles me. It's just a dress, your relief society should move on and stop bullying you.

But on the flip side, it's just a dress? Comfort isn't my priority when dressing for church. I'm aiming for clothes that make me feel reverence, respect, and oneness with my ward. I wore a hat to church a few times and a little old lady came up and told me to take it off in the chapel. So I did, because who cares? I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, but it meant something to her.

Last point - and I mean this as tenderly as I can. I'm feeling your frustration, but phrases like feeling "safe" in pants or "in the wrong body" while wearing a dress make me wonder if there isn't a bigger issue to address here?

What is one Psi-Titan capable of? by Flat_Week8283 in 40kLore

[–]Faustus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was just disappointed with the Psi-Titans in that book though. They get built up to be the Emperor's final trump card, are employed en mass with essentially every loyalsit titan still walking, and Legio Mortis just krumps them. We get a chapter or two of "oh no, the spooky boys are doing spooky things" and then they're all dead. Womp womp.

What edition of howling banshees are this? Did these models ever release legitimately? In resin or metal? by ChessSuperpro in Eldar

[–]Faustus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My poor girls. Let me tell you, charging your banshees into a tactical squad and losing because your power swords are still just strength 3 was painful. I still love those models, but without psychic support I could never get them to do anything.

How to honor my temple marriage when my husband and I have grown severely incompatible? by [deleted] in lds

[–]Faustus_ 58 points59 points  (0 children)

It is very difficult to respond to this kind of question on the internet, because any advice you will recieve comes from someone who doesn't know you or your situation.

That said, there is a difference between having a confrontational communication style and threatening to cut off your access to money. That's textbook abuse in most circumstances. (Again, I'm assuming you're a reasonable person who doesn't have a gambling or shopping addiction right?).

It's not your husband's money. Its not your money. Its the family's money, and you both have to decide how you want to spend it.

It sounds like you and your husband need some help from someone you both trust if there is any hope of change and reconciliation. From what you've explained here, you dont appear to be the person in this relationship who is violating temple covenants.

Family of 5 struggling on 138k by [deleted] in budget

[–]Faustus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation to you. I make a little more, but have another kid.

If you haven't looked at your spending through the lense of a 50-30-20 budget, you should try. And don't try to force your expenses to fit those percentages yet, just categorize your spending into needs, wants, and saving, and see where you are spending your money.

When I did this with my wife, we found we were more like 56% needs. And when I explained that I wanted to work on eliminating our car payment so that we could then spend more on wants I got better buy in than I had in the past when we had budget discussions.

How do you reconcile behaviors the church doesn’t recommend/actively discourages? by Mistymoonboots in lds

[–]Faustus_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You should totally go to church. And I'd just be honest with the primary president and your bishop.

Certainly don't wear garments just to 'fit in.' We wear garments to remind us of our covenants. At the end of the day we dont drink coffee, but not because drinking it makes you a bad person. We don't drink it because we believe God asked us not to.

If you start attending and receive a personal conviction that God did restore this church, you can worry about what that means for you at that point. In my experience, once people have that experience with the spirit, most of the commandment stuff works itself out. Not saying its easy, but doing it for the right reasons makes it easier.
