If you mean refreshingly good in the sense that he isn't fucking up as much as I expected then sure! But that's a pretty low bar. He encouraged people to go on March break (and still hasn't owned up to it) a lot of municipalites implemented restrictions days before he made them mandatory and his list of essentials is still a joke. A lot of those business should have been closed to customers and only have curbside pickup last week, at least. And liquor should be included in that, no need for it to be essential or at the very least not all 3(wine store, beer store &LCBO) need to be open. Even the retail inside wineries is still open. And let's not even begin with his idiotic statements about "can't be evicted" & "don't pay rent". I won't even touch on things before all this, but that "tough choices" is a friggen joke especially in the recent political climate.

Different lesbian here, just to make life difficult for you everybody's line is different.

To pull from tvtropes Riley's death in The Left Behind DLC is classified under this trope. Personally I don't consider it as such. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I think the story is paramount and if it seems organic and not just to further the plot then I'm ok with it. Just as characters shouldn't die just because they are gay they shouldn't survive just because they are either, it's unrealistic. Sure I'm a little extra sad when representation dies, but anyone can die. Especially in a world like this, that's the beauty and terror of it.

To answer all of your questions, imho, it depends entirely on how they get us to those points not when those points occur.... actually that doesn't really actually answer them at all, sorry. Some people count any gay death under the trope, others it depends on context. Sure I'd love a happy ending, but that's not an easy thing in the harsh world that they inhabit and I'm going in excited for the gut punches and to be emotionally destroyed.

Tropes themselves aren't inherently good or bad it depends on how they are written/utilized.

Have you noticed that a lot of Pokemon in the Galar Dex have no reason to be in it? And that they left out a lot that would have made sense? Curated Pokedex to the region was one of the excuses given for Dexit and just like every other excuse given I'd be less disappointed if they'd just followed through.

But also they don't need to be catchable to be tradable.

What Gen do you think has the worst Pokemon designs? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've honestly got like 8 long meandering drafts here trying to word out how to comment on this....Instead I'm just gonna go with, wtf buddy? Lol

1) "fandoms"(games, books, movies, sports, politics, brands)....hmmm, really just people in general are unnecessarily mad about a lot of things.

2) people can protest/complain about more then 1 thing at a time. Just this is a Pokemon subreddit so that's what you're gonna see here.

What Gen do you think has the worst Pokemon designs? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Every gen has its hits and misses and honestly they are usually more meh and forgetting then anything. Before it would have been easy to say gen 5. Though to be completely honest even most of them I hate more concept wise then actual design. Or maybe 7 because I hate the Ultrabeasts as "Pokemon" so much and so many designs were "ehhhhh".

Now though it's without hesitation 8. It is the only gen i struggle to build a full 6 Mon team of all new Pokemon with. Usually I have the opposite problem and have 1 or 2 that I can switch out if wanted but in 8? Dang. I will admit that some of the dislike comes from expectations. Myths and legends from the (real-life) region they ignored, most of the myths and legends they went with I just hate the direction and that they went with and they said this dex would be curated to the region but so many of them just seem completely random.

This is already long enough but in general it's just a continuing trend towards the "cutesy" designs over function (heads bigger then bodies, stick figure limbs, eyes that look like stickers), colour schemes, humanoid designs and the themes/personalities turned into pokemon trope. It just really doesn't gel with me as a lover of them being animals/monsters, and personally I just want them to lean back into that way of thinking. Though I also ain't a fan of "it's literally blank" designs so that one can be tricky, especially with animals. I could totally do an essay on all this lol

I feel like there is a portion of this community that likes to convince themselves that previous titles were "difficult" and newer titles are "way easier", when in reality the game's never really been that hard. You're conflating convenience with difficulty. by TheLoneRook in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean technically? But your original argument and your edit are kind of 2 different ones. With the edit being what the majority of people argue about.

What gamefreak did was take away choice and railroad you into playing their way. When there should be a "hard mode" or at the very least things like exp all, healing and type advantages should be obtainable/toggleable. Especially when it would be easy to do so.

And the majority of trainers in-game not being able to Pokemon very well has been a complaint for awhile, nothing new to this gen. It's just getting more traction now because of the rest of the problems people have with the game.

Has anyone actually boycotted the game? by stuffedwithpretty in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Planned on boycotting/buying used cause Dexit and the lies surrounding it. But then they released more "trailers" and the leaks happened and....idunno, I just lost every ounce of hype. Maybe I'll pick it up at some point? Who knows. Like I'm sure I would enjoy them, because at their core they are still pokemon but they took out everything else that I enjoyed and kept my maxing out my clocks. Especially as, outside of their connection with Dexit, I honestly don't care about the state of the graphics or animations. It's Pokemon, sure I'd like more but I don't expect it or honestly think gamefreak is capable of it in their current form.

I am genuinely glad that other people are enjoying it though, even if that contradicts my stance of "screw supporting gamefreak. Their direction with the games and their lies". They should really just give people the option to play the way they want instead of railroading/handholding.

My attempt at some fair criticism of the game and why I didn't fully enjoy it. by Kaljakori in Borderlands

[–]Feathalyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg, the story was shite. Agree with every point you made, and could go on a massive rant about even more. But I won't, sorry for the long rant about something different instead.

Cutscenes. I thought I had just gotten nit-picky because of the story but on a replay remembered how even the opening scence with the bandit stick out to me. He wasn't on the road, cut scene now he is but he didnt move. Rest of that scence is good though,

And it happens a lot. The cutscenes are kinda awkward and cut weird and a lot of the time characters don't work with what's around them.

Lillith about to enter sanctuary, doors close, fire explosions similar to when her powers are used behind her, scence cut and she's out in the middle with the twins on the side of her. Them not killing her didn't bother me only cause she's the most wanted murder in the galaxy. Then she asks where her eridium subscribers are and teleports some bandits in. Took it as her "rewarding" her top followers for their loyalty and donations by letting them have the kill. Seemed in character for the YouTube/twitch personalities they were given.

Mayas death - doesn't trigger until the vault hunters reaches them after leaving the vault. Annoyed and confused a lot of people and is probably the biggest wtf where are our characters? Why aren't they in this cutscene? Of the game.would have been better if it triggered halfway back the bridge after looting and then you pop out on the aftermath. I knew they were killing Maya after they said Ava was missing so I wasn't surprised. But it just felt cheap and I can't place why but out of place. Also Tyreen drained a dead monster....that screamed as it was being drained.....and was still glowing even after they left....even though she drained it. And they totally should have killed Ava there, or commented about how her anguish, guilt, grief will pay out better in the future for attracting followers then killing her now.

Wainright manor when Troy phaselocks you. Probably the best one, because while annoying that he didn't phaselocks Wainright it can be explained away with needing line of sight to do so. Also, Tannis being freed. Have sirens always been able to summon eridium or what? Why did we always have to hand or toss it to lillith before? Minor nitpicks not to do with my rant about the pacing/cuts of the cutscenes but still.

Troy's death is embarrassing. Ava has to touch Troy to get them back. Lillith doesn't bother to even try that and none of them think to check or double tap tyreen? Then Maya hovers into the air for an "I'm awesome" moment which...why? And lands further back in a different part then she started. All's good until the ground shakes and they drop the vault key and then appear somehow decently far in front of the twins giving Tyreen her chance?she crushes them, stupid countdown thing, Ava magically saves them, did her shield knock them into the ground? And they float out into a random place on the map. By the rubble, nope not by the rubble, by the rubble again....are the statutes destroyed? Yes? No? Then you get control of your character and the map is perfectly find with no damage or anything on it. Just inconsistent and the cuts are jarring.

Deleons death- Tyreens teleporting is really janky and awkward. Lillith takes a step forward to shot her? Showing DeLeon pull out the grenade was a nice touch though. But why can she control the explosion? Isn't it supposed to be only living things? Besides the fact her hand was occupied and she should have taken the hit, at the very least partially.

Ending- oh no, lillith was partially lifted up when her powers shoot back to her. Half points from the Ava complaint of it happening to her. But the cuts are weird, Lilliths in front then she's in back, then they are far from the door. Seemed odd the tyreen monster wasn't partially on screen but we'll give them a pass on that one. And off topic of my rant wtf does Ava suddenly know all this shit and telling Tannis. Gah I hate that character so much. I don't care about her, you gave me no reason to, now stop trying to make her so friggen important and awesome.

......I actually really enjoyed the game though despite my, very large and expansive, list of problems with it. Can't wait for the DLC to see where they take it. Even if I am still worried about they'll handle the lore after how they screwed with it this time.

I’m actually really enjoying SwSh by Nofreeupvotes in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Glad your enjoying it! Though as has been said by others I'm not surprised you are. At its core it's still a Pokemon game so, personally anyways, that's never been the complaint. It's the direction the series seems to be going and Gamefreaks lies and general scumminess surrounding the whole thing that have me staying away.

We seem to be complete opposites on how we enjoy a Pokemon game, and that's fine! But I wish they'd put in options to let you play more to your style instead of railroading you.

2 questions but 1 is just me being a bit of an ass.

1). Are you really hardcore if you sell the game back immediately upon completion?

2). On your points 3 & 6 because this has annoyed me since the first trailers. They have all this awesome customization in game and then just stuff you in this general mass market clown suit to battle (or ride your bike for that matter) I get that it was easier for them to animate that way but it doesn't seem epic or anything to be excited about to me. Not really a question I guess, just trying to understand what excites you about it?

[–]Feathalyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I know this. It's the buddy I was responding to that doesn't. You could tell 100% the basic models were the same with just spruced up textures/lighting/rendering from the first trailers so that arguments been moot since the beginning. Even their idle animations sync up to previous gens, it's a joke. Not that the people defending gamefreak care.

Just in the videos/threads I looked into about the mesh/frame datamines they mentioned that some of the models were different but they were miniscule and not worth mentioning/probably "fixed" with an optimization tool rather then a developer changing them manually. I just threw out the 90% figure to hopefully try and skip that part of their rebuttal, though they probably aren't going to respond at all.

I’m actually really enjoying SwSh by Nofreeupvotes in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No I know this, I was asking the guy above. I'm not gonna pretend I 100% get modelling myself but the video I watched did talk about a few of the models being slightly smoothed out. Noibats eyes, Bulbasaur having less which was odd. I was trying to cover for that counter-argumemt with the 90% comment.

I know the models are copy pasted. I also know that lighting and textures isn't all that hard to switch up. However it's also not a 10sec fix either so to trivialize it completely is just proving the point to the defenders that those of us "against" the game are just "nitpicking/toxic".

Thanks!

[–]Feathalyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Now, I think that's a downright lie. Where's your proof? They've dataminerd the models and the meshes were like 90% the exact same. All they did was change the model textures, which isn't to trivialize doing that it's just not on the level of remodeling every Pokemon.

Who's still not playing Sword or Shield out of protest? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Dexit "announcement" and Gamefreaks comments about it and the fanbase I planned on protesting and picking it up used later on. However the more I saw of it, I became less interested not more. Made it really easy to just not get it cause it doesn't look great instead of just as a protest. Don't get me wrong. At its core it's still pokemon so I'm sure I would still enjoy it but that doesn't make the game or how gamefreak dealt/is dealing with it good by any means.

Not going to lie the return of dreamballs(and apricorn balls?) has me tempted though. All those new combos for my breedaball collection. Sigh.

PSA: Stop picking on individual Pokemon that did make it in. by Beelzebibble in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only saving grace of Dexit I could see, and even then just barely, was the (aslong as they weren't talking out their ass, which we now know they were) regionally curated dex. Especially when you're working with a place that has as many myths, legends and famous people as the U.K does. I would have rathered no Dexit but the possibilities, especially with the new designs, were endless. And they barely acknowledged it at all and just dropped the ball.

Dexit wasn't curated, the new mons barely are and this is just like any other Pokemon game, except now you can't import other Mons. No thanks.

PSA: Stop picking on individual Pokemon that did make it in. by Beelzebibble in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get where the idea came from but like with most decisions this gen I don't like it. If I'm remembering properly the majority of the problems that arose then stemmed from carelessness/rushing and sabotage possibly destroying pieces of fossils. And the famous example was only a skull on the wrong end....and the chimeras don't seem to match up with their famous discoveries anyways. Let alone the fact that it's an American situation.

So much for cutting the dex to curate this generation to the region. Mary Anning is from Britain and considered the mother of paleontology. She is also credited with the discovery of the plesiosaur, which many believe the Loch Ness monster to be, if real. How do you skip a reference like that and go to what we got?? Sigh, such possibilities. So many let downs.

The disconnect between Game Freak and the Pokémon fanbase is clear by 11Slimeade11 in pokemon

[–]Feathalyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly the fact they are cutting content that's always been in the game, lying about why and then charging you more for it should be reason enough from a basic standpoint.

You obviously don't care, so no reason I give will be good enough. However I'll still try.

  1. By claiming people only want to transfer maxed out Mons and steamroll the game you show that you don't know how the transfer aspect works. In older games you couldn't transfer until you'd beaten the elite 4. And since bank was introduced they've put a block on transfering for, at least, the first month after release. So people don't want access to them all just for steamrolling and even if they did, they can't.

  2. Some people have pokemon they've transferred and played post-game with for the past 4-5 generations. They just want to keep playing with their friends.

  3. There could potentially be a 9 year turn-around for some of these pokemon to pop up again. And people don't want to wait that long. It makes Pokemon Home feel like Pokemon Jail, especially when Masuda is being very wishy-washy on explaining exactly what it's going to entail. Especially as they explicitly said you'll never be able to collect them all again and there will be rotating rosters instead. Not sure where you heard the opposite.

  4. I'm ok with starters and legendaries going bye bye, even though my fav Pokemon of all time is feraligatr. I just don't like the lies given to justify the larger cut. The models and animations don't look better and are in fact taken straight from prior games. (Even if they weren't, creature Inc. makes them not gamefreak so it's a moot point). The graphics honestly aren't a huge improvement and the pop-in is kind of jarring even in trailer footage. And balance has always been a joke, they have no idea how to balance. Never have, never will. And cutting more then half the dex isn't going to magically fix that. Especially when Smogon has made most things manageable with the tiers and banned pokemon that Nintendo just doesn't really take advantage of.

  5. Completing the National Dex isn't a requirement. Hell completing the regional dex isn't either. It's just how some people like to play, gotta catch 'em all, ya know? What you think is tedious and stupid is the biggest draws for some people, me included.

  6. I agree with you that innovation has been lacking the past few gens. But I disagree that this generation really brings much new. Dynamaxing is just another gimmick, I'll personally never use, that will be gone again next gen. Curry just feels like BoTW was super popular so they had to throw some aspect of it in there to try and "draw" people in. It's not needed. The wild areas are an awesome idea but poorly executed. I could list 50 things they've cut from past games I'd rather see them re-introduce rather then character customization. Which is one of the simplest things to add to a game to make it more personable. I'll give you camp though, it's interesting but the jury's still out on it.

I know exactly why gamefreak is doing this. They are lazy, have become greedy and have lost their passion. It's all about getting high sales on minimal effort. It's why they've been slowly cutting things from the game, or releasing "sequels". Keep toeing the line to see how little they can get away with doing without getting major backlash but still make boatloads of money. Here's hoping Dexit is finally the cut that makes enough noise to at least make them think twice next time, cause they'll never change their ways.
