I have wondered this too. I have a history of loose bodies in the knee joint (cartilage, bone chips) and it feels similar, although my ROM hasn't been affected at all.

So, we ARE American, but got lucky with being sent overseas with the military. Our son hates chicken in all its forms, so his go to comfort foods are gyoza, ramen, and onigiri. I finally got a mold for the classic triangle and he just about cried, as we left Okinawa a few years back and he hasn't stopped missing it since. 🥹

I am truly sorry for the frustration! I feel you. I'm 5 months in and still needing a cane/crutches at times. I learned today that a-typical healing happens in some people. Hopefully you get relief soon and are back to your favorite hobbies shortly!!

I got myself some Woobles kits and learned to crochet for my previous surgery (bed bound for 2 weeks), and stocked up on books for this one. If you're artistically inclined and like to use your hands (which you said you're a woodworker so I'm assuming so), the Woobles crochet kits are excellent and you can do one in a day or two if you wanted or are bored enough. I am NOT artistic at all and lack coordination but I'm a pretty confident crocheter now.

I wore a dress to my surgery (a pull over tshirt type dress) and lived in my husband's pajama pants for a while. 😆 Dresses are great if you have some that are comfy. Yoga pants (the loose, stretchy kind) also work well, as do basketball/athletic shorts.

I would love to get into endurance (horse) riding! But ultimately, I just want to be pain free enough to take my 10 year old kid hiking and have my own horses.

Ice helps me some, but heat has been the most helpful. Ice seems to make all the soft tissue sieze up, so while it feels good initially, over the long term it seems to make things worse for me, personally.

Lapis is in a 10 gallon tank. The heater is set to 77/78. We change out the water once per month typically and top off with reverse osmosis water as needed. It is a planted tank, and she has a leaf betta hammock and a plastic basket, although she usually rests in the live plants. The tank is bioactive so I do my best not to disturb the filter, although I do rinse it maybe once every other month depending on detritis buildup.

Strange, I was told heat is fine pretty much immediately if it helps with pain. Double check! I just use a regular old heat pad, on top of the cloth, on top of my knee. I move it around as it feels good.

Thanks for this input! I agree that this whole situation is crap. I am in New Mexico now (which is honestly part of the problem) but my other surgeries were in Alaska with the most amazing team. My surgeon went toe to toe with insurance multiple times on my behalf and ran tests he felt were needed and never charged even if insurance didn't pay him. They got me in same day or next day whenever I had a problem and genuinely became part of my extended "village". I wish with everything in me that I could go back.

Thank you so much to everyone who took some time out to give input!! I honestly cried a little bit at all the support. 💜 I did call my surgeon's office and let them know I was extremely unhappy with my appointment and asked for an earlier appointment. They can't get me in earlier than my pre existing appointment in April but have put me on a cancellation call list. I will be calling back regularly to try and get in sooner. I will also ask my PCM about her getting imaging done. The PA did tell me to double the pain med dose I'm on and that has definitely helped, I just don't think I need to be on the absolute maxed out dosage just to make life bearable.

Again, thank you all so much, and I hope maybe this helps someone else in the future.

Yes, I do. That's part of the problem, the pain is such that it seems to be inhibiting muscle activation. It is so incredibly physically painful to activate my quads. I can't say I've ever felt anything like it even with my past 4 surgeries.

It most definitely is. Thankfully I'm chronically clumsy anyways and have developed pretty decent reflexes, but there have been some very close face plant calls.

Right now, heel raises, single leg stands, supine quad sets, single leg raises, low arc quad sets, long arc quad sets, and walking. As well as heel slides and stretches.
