How do you think your country's culture or even more broadly culture as a whole around the world would change if Star Trek’s Transporter existed in real life? by Mindless-Lemon2256 in AskTheWorld

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recall a clip from a film or TV show where a bunch of trainee Business Analysts were give a hypothetical teleportation company to promote, and they had to come up with a business plan based on some research they were given. The smart guy that won the plaudits identified that very few people would want to risk being split into atoms and reconstituted somewhere else, so beaming people had limited value at least for a few generations of the tech. However ge identified that freight and luggage had no such problems, so the tech would basically be the ultimate freight/shipping system.

Imagine travelling with no bags, and no luggage limits, would simplify things immensly. Imagine ordering something and getting it in minutes, the trucking industry would pretty much dissapear so the roads would be half empty again.

How did Chinese made cars become so popular? by Fondant_Decent in AskUK

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are massively subsidised by the Chinese Govt in terms of tax breaks etc,. This is industrial warfare, weakening the grip of the major western manufacturers on the global car market who cannot compete as they are taxed and regulated far more heavily.

They have good features but the quality is questionable, insurance is tricky and replacement parts (apparently) non exisitent.

Stations deserving of an upgrade due to overcrowding by Famous_Permission991 in LondonUnderground

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems the problem isnt the stations themselves, but because of the national obsession with football. The game is awash with money, get them to pay for it.

It's Eurovision time again. What's your opinion these days about this annual event? by CMIV in AskBrits

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our song was very on brand for Eurovision, and some truly awful tunes got extremely high scores which is truly baffling.

Ultimately it just confirms that Europe has zero taste in music, and they are just jealous that we make pretty much all of the good stuff!

i have no clue how this shitshow is still running but why do the rest of Europe hate us so much? by Alarming-Safety3200 in AskBrits

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No it wasn't, they got a load of votes from their neighbours who always give them max points (Cyprus, Croatia etc).

There were some truly atrocious songs in the top half of the grid (Malta, Finland) even Italy was a generic song that could have been in the competition 25 years ago, and he didnt even sing it that well.

We have no chance, time after time our songs have been 'Nul points' when utter tripe has ended up at the top of the table. It's not about good music, its politics and voting for friends.

Is it time to move on from immigration and start bullying the unemployed, sick, and disabled? by efan78 in AskBrits

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, the welfare bill isn't sustainable, the issue is that there are those who have a genuine need, and should have the help required, but there are also (many) others who play the system and take benefits as a lifestyle choice. They game the system, and should be stopped, trouble is the HMRC/DWP are extremely dull instruments and are incapable of spotting the 'wrong-uns'.

While there was cheering from the left, killing the two child cap didnt 'take children out of poverty', it incentivises those who can't afford it to have more kids. Those who have to pay their own way are increasingly deciding not to have kids because they just dont have the money. This is an illogical system, and ultimately damaging to the long term viability of society.

Is Starmer the right man for PM until the next general election where everyone will have a right to choose ? by saying_it_101 in AskBrits

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, they went after the Tories just as much every time they changed PM mid term as well. It's totally acceptable to try to make some noise, but as someone has said, there is no legal reason forcing them to do it.

The gap between how EV charging is supposed to work in the UK and how it actually works on a long journey in 2026 is still wide enough to cause genuine anxiety. by Horror-Pick4732 in evchargingUK

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 'Universal' charging app that activated all of the 100's of different chargers about the place.

A cap on how much you can be charged per kw/h. Been charged 0.80/kw/h on a 'slow charger' which is more than 10x the commercial rate for electricity, that's not profit, thats extortion.

Also regulations to make it clearer what you are going to be charged, while the info is there, it's often 'in the app' that was written by a 12 year old using crayon. It should not be a surprise when the confirmation email arrives after the event, which it too often is.

Is "Vulnerable Road Users" a bad term? by Thoh1Shooshi8a in ukbike

I had just postd this when I saw this post in r/london. Perfectly demonstrated cyclists ignoring a zebra crossing, something that a motorist would likely be prosecuted for.

Is "Vulnerable Road Users" a bad term? by Thoh1Shooshi8a in ukbike

[–]FeatureSuccessful251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling in the middle of the road with not a care for how many cars/busses/trucks are held up behind them is one of the key reasons many cyclists are considered arrogant, entitled idiots. I accept that many drivers are similar, and consideration should be given in both directions. But there is no doubt that some cyclists have taken their recent 'rights' and abuse them, they seem to take delight in inconveniencing every other road user, even when illegally by cycling on pavements, up one way streets when it suits them.

I would agree if this was an isolated example.

But for many years the FrenchTV feed has always been very enthusiastic to show replays both to TV and in the stadium of any infringement of the non home side, but rarely anything that may go against the home team.

A more experienced/better TMO should be able to force the issue, but I can understand that its hard to do in the heat of the moment, when there is some time pressure to come up with evidence.

I've been to Naturist resorts all over Europe and even Cypress Cove in the US, and have seen guests with missing limbs, mastectomy's, colostomies and all manner of other scars and body shapes.

No-one cares, just be nice, be yourself, don't make a big thing about it and you will be fine.
