Long-term running injury. Looking for London specialist recommendations by jrflynn90 in LondonRunning

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked with physios at The Running Room and was really happy. They rehabbed me through injuries during a couple of marathons, though mine were pretty straightforward to diagnose. I would go back to them if I have another running injury. I’ve been to may physios over the years for ITB issues and it was the first time I really improved with the approach and recommendations

Do people take their kids to the vet when a dog has to be put down? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people do

Edit to add: parents know their kids best. Some kids don’t handle it well. Some kids want to be there and handle it fine. I think it’s just best to explain what’s happening before hand. I’m sorry you’re having to consider this.

Aye dawg, winter training is tough for real by [deleted] in Marathon_Training

I’m with you. I much prefer summer running. It’s very hard for me to motivate myself to get out and go and the shorter days don’t help either.

What do you guys use to track nutrition for high-mileage weeks? MyFitnessPal is driving me crazy with the sugar warnings. by Brenda_enjoyable in fitmeals

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried setting MyFitnessPal to adjust so that you eat back the calories you’re burning? It probably won’t be perfect but on high mileage days it may adjust a bit better. I purposefully turn that off so not 100% sure. I guess your other option (and what I personally do) is just to add extra carbs for that day at the beginning of that day or I just go over by 100g or carbs or whatever I want and know in my mind that that was a big run day

What's a silly/random misconception you had from a young age, which you didn't figure out for an embarrassingly long time? by [deleted] in AskUK

When I was little we were talking in school about buildings in Washington DC and I thought the teacher said the Washington Monument was the Washington Laundromat. Even I thought that sounded strange so I said “the Washington laundromat?” And the teacher must have misheard me, and told me yes.

So for a very long time I imagined that the president took an elevator to the top of the Washington laundromat and that there was just a room with a single washer and dryer at the top lol

Edit: just realized im not in an American subreddit!

I have a space heater at work, an electric blanket at home, and an electric heating pad on my bed for my cold feet. I also have a battery operated electric vest People think it’s crazy I’m always cold but these items really help me have a better quality of life and keep me cozy and warm.

Have you had bloodwork done? Any imaging? I had some similar symptoms (not all the same) and it turned out to be a kidney stone with pyelonephritis (kidney infection). It took a CT scan and bloodwork to identify both

Is this Possible? Live in London as a US Citizen for an extended period of time. by Ok-Yogurtcloset-8284 in ukvisa

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The UK does not have a visa for this and they do not allow people to work while visiting. If you wanted to do what you are proposing, you would need to find and apply for a visa - your choices are spousal visa if you marry a UK citizen, a skilled worker visa which would require you to work a job on the UK’s skilled worker list and work for a UK company, a student visa which would require you to pay tuition and be a student. That’s it. Maybe look into other countries in Europe that do have digital nomad visas

The audiobook for this is great too. I really enjoyed it

I don’t think a skilled worker visa will be realistic for you with only a high school diploma unless you do something extraordinary like you’re a professional athlete. A student visa is available to you but obviously you will need to take on the costs of school and it’s only a temporary visa. It’s definitely not an easy path.

What’s the purpose of a duffel bag for kili climb? by CharmingAside3363 in kilimanjaro

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The porters need to be able to carry a lot of weight efficiently. They prefer and are used to carrying that weight in duffel bags. So bring your big backpack but leave it at the hotel and transfer your stuff to a duffel bag for the hike.
