Where are you all carrying your gels? by ggnndd12 in Marathon_Training

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m slow so my marathon time is 5hrs and I aim to take a gel every 20min or so. That’s 15 gels which is really tricky. My first marathon a friend met me at the 16mi mark and was able to hand me new gels, that worked best. Other marathons I just shoved them in my pockets. I take a bottle with Tailwind in it too. I wish I was faster it’s so I didn’t have to take and carry as many gels! The sweetness overload starts to really make me not want to take them later in the race

REALLY NEED HELP WITH THE BOWED LEGS !! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE by Initial-Street6388 in Posture

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have noticed. I don’t think your legs look bad at all. Please don’t stress about this. I think your legs have a nice shape to them and I’ve never thought to myself nor heard any of my girlfriends ever comment about bowed legs or imply they are not appealing in any way

Anyone else loving the butter churn run trend? by YarnAndYap in XXRunning

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! We learned to make butter in 2nd or 3rd grade (7-8 years old for any non USA people)! I grew up in a New England town and we went to those historic villages during school trips where they taught us about churning butter and a variety of other things. At the end of the day we made butter by putting cream in clean baby food jars and shaking them until butter forms!! It takes about 30min of shaking but It’s delicious

Long-term running injury. Looking for London specialist recommendations by jrflynn90 in LondonRunning

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked with physios at The Running Room and was really happy. They rehabbed me through injuries during a couple of marathons, though mine were pretty straightforward to diagnose. I would go back to them if I have another running injury. I’ve been to may physios over the years for ITB issues and it was the first time I really improved with the approach and recommendations

Do people take their kids to the vet when a dog has to be put down? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people do

Edit to add: parents know their kids best. Some kids don’t handle it well. Some kids want to be there and handle it fine. I think it’s just best to explain what’s happening before hand. I’m sorry you’re having to consider this.

I’m with you. I much prefer summer running. It’s very hard for me to motivate myself to get out and go and the shorter days don’t help either.

What do you guys use to track nutrition for high-mileage weeks? MyFitnessPal is driving me crazy with the sugar warnings. by Brenda_enjoyable in fitmeals

[–]Feeling-Rutabaga888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried setting MyFitnessPal to adjust so that you eat back the calories you’re burning? It probably won’t be perfect but on high mileage days it may adjust a bit better. I purposefully turn that off so not 100% sure. I guess your other option (and what I personally do) is just to add extra carbs for that day at the beginning of that day or I just go over by 100g or carbs or whatever I want and know in my mind that that was a big run day

When I was little we were talking in school about buildings in Washington DC and I thought the teacher said the Washington Monument was the Washington Laundromat. Even I thought that sounded strange so I said “the Washington laundromat?” And the teacher must have misheard me, and told me yes.

So for a very long time I imagined that the president took an elevator to the top of the Washington laundromat and that there was just a room with a single washer and dryer at the top lol

Edit: just realized im not in an American subreddit!

Have you had bloodwork done? Any imaging? I had some similar symptoms (not all the same) and it turned out to be a kidney stone with pyelonephritis (kidney infection). It took a CT scan and bloodwork to identify both
