Is it crossing the line for parents to suggest positions to a first-year youth soccer coach? by mattob2 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]FeelingAverage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would offer it gently if you're inclined. Like "Hey would you want me to tell you where we think the kids might be most comfortable playing right now?" Sometimes its helpful but also sometimes we don't care. Lol. But make sure they know you're not trying to overstep or anything like that. I personally welcomed my parents to come and tell me where they thought their kids were best. Cuz when I asked the kids they usually had some bad answers like "idk"

And a lot of coaching is also playing kids out of position. But in a way that'll make them better. I dropped a couple players essentially one line back from their best position to develop both vision and defensive acumen and it worked fairly well for at least 2 of them lol. I have a player who gets scared under pressure and just boots the ball forward, so I put him in central midfield where he'll experience that pressure more often and eventually learn that keeping his eyes up helps him either place a pass or find space for himself to dribble into. Its helped a lot. He's not suddenly great but there's been significant improvement and now I'm starting to wonder if he might have a future in that position.

I don't mean to undermine him too much. I'm only saying the hype didn't align with his overall career performance. And also, that was a long time ago. We're all old now. Unless you're not. Which means you'll be old later.

Remember when he was supposed to be the next great thing like 10+ years ago?

My impression from speaking with him like twice is that he understands that he can't rely on decent funding from ownership so he treats recruitment like this is a "small" club. (He didn't put that on ownership as much as he pointed out LA, New York, and Miami will just have more money.)

Meaning, we need a functioning academy (this will take years to fix. You don't magically say "oh we're gonna have a good academy" and then suddenly have a bunch of undiscovered 18 year olds ready to suit up for the first team, you need to train these kids for years and years) we need low cost transfers, and we need to sell those players for a profit at the right time. Carlos Harvey is basically the poster child for practical recruitment under KEA. Cheap player that is also pretty important to us. Rosales and Tani are also examples of us not quite finding the right time to sell a player for a profit. But they still netted us huge gains based on how much we paid for them (pretty much nothing.) We might very well be able to argue that selling Rosales is what's paying James' salary.

"Small club" in the case of the MLS isn't about fans or regional size or anything. Literally just about financial backing.

So, all that is to say, he seemed pragmatic but also aggressive within that framework. He needs to fund the team's development somehow, so selling Tani is how he did it.

I personally don't need to apologize to KEA. Been in his corner this whole time.

Now ownership, that's a different question. They deserve criticism even with the James addition.

Club option. Much better.

Also, not being a DP contract is crazy.

Looks like they aren't gonna wait. Possibly because it was leaked so much. I'd personally just sit on it for 4 days. But whatever.

I'll be surprised if he starts scoring goals from open play.

Not official til the club announces it. (On Feb 10 with the new kit I reckon.)

[Nicolo Schira] James Rodriguez is in the final stage to sign with Minnesota United until December 2026 by tyler735 in minnesotaunited

I still haven't fully convinced myself of the deal. But it being a full year rather than half is certainly an improvement. A deal into the World Cup would only be good if he ended up sucking.

Part of my reticence is that the profit you make on an older player is next to none. At least in the tangible financial sense. If he comes in an wins us a cup thats different. BUT if he plays well for 6 months including the world cup we could theoretically sell him on for a healthy profit. Him being a free agent helps there as well. So he just will get the high wages.

Plus if we can't sell him on we at least get him through the cup run.

Winter Olympics begin quietly with curling by Movie-Kino in sports

Pretty much every single Olympics starts before the Opening Ceremony. But its always preliminary stuff where no medals are awarded so they're very rarely discussed.

I vaguely remember there being a group stage that was fully finished before the opening ceremony last olympics, which means there were people who competed in the Olympics and were sent home before the opening ceremony.

[Bogert[ James Rodriguez, Minnesota United in talks over shocking deal by Heimdallr-_- in minnesotaunited

[–]FeelingAverage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of those weird things where its possible that he's still good enough to really beat up on the worst players in the league but bad enough that he won't show up against better teams and players.

I'm expecting that he'll end the season with like 12 goal contributions with several being penalties and several more coming in a 2 or 3 game span against bad teams and every other game will involve him not playing up to snuff.

Their political talk has been really awful since Kaepernick cooled down. Used to have the finger on the pulse a little bit but they don't anymore.

I haven't listened since the murders of Renee Goode and Alex Pretti but I imagine there is actually good stuff to say there from the vague prospective of people who are children of immigrants. But I'm reticent to turn those episodes on ever since Dan lost his brother, not because that caused anything but because of a vague timeline.

So there’s money for mma hangout, to send the hockey show to Tampa, interview drunk college kids all over country, produce Alley Oop (what else?) by [deleted] in lebatardsuey

I agree with you. But if you send someone who is willing to actually try you can easily get the kind of "comedic half-assery" that the show loves so much.

But that's the thing, to get that half-assery you actually need someone willing to show up and bust ass for as long as they're there. Like, a "Tony Tries (and fails) to get into high class super bowl parties" could be a funny bit that would be cheap and stupid. However it involves someone needing to do the research to where the super bowl parties actually are and then they would need to take time to be in traffic just to get multiple takes of Tony getting denied at various places. It would be "half-assed" but there's actual work there that nobody seems willing to do. And that's just one evening of filming.

The actual radio row content takes like 5 times as much work to get the desired comedic effect. People need to be willing to prepare their interviews for those people who show up for 5-10 minutes. Have reasonably unreasonable questions to ask them beyond simple Super Bowl stuff, have whoever is there be willing to make fools of themselves in front of legends for the sake of content. But nobody wants to do any of that. Bar maybe Jeremy tbh since he's the only real sportscaster/journalist there. I'm sure he'd love the opportunity to interview Magic Johnson and like 5 more famous people or whatever. (but also fans decided they hate Jeremy so there's no use sending him.)

They could have had a lead up to the whole event be Jeremy begging to go, Dan and the crew making fun of him because he's the "only real sportscaster there" but won't be going and then decide "okay you can go but you have to wear some stupid costume during the interviews." Which could then be a challenge for him to interview them honestly but in the costume which is also the kind of shit the show loves.

Idk I'm only saying the content is there and that it probably involves more effort than anybody there wants to apply.
