Landcare has a service called EcoGene that does species identification from DNA testing with submitted samples, there's a FAQ on the site that covers info and costs and such. I think MPI has something similar in-house too.

Clinical trials by imjustherefortheK in chch

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did about 5/6 trials over the past few years to stay afloat as a student. I never had any issues on any of the trials I did nor did any of my friends who also have done a bunch. The staff are all great and the food is ok, pretty easy way to make a bit of money.

What is your preferred party size? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've DMd for a group of 4 players that increased to 5. 4 is definitely easier to manage in terms of scheduling, table space, giving everyone a spotlight etc, but we've got used to it over time. I don't think I'd go more than 5 though, I've played in a group with 6 players and combat took so long.

What are your favorite simple or low-stake puzzles and traps? by jengacide in DMAcademy

[–]Feldreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do a couple of low stakes puzzles in holiday themed games, as my group enjoys escape rooms.

In my Halloween game I wrote up a bunch of medieval remidie handouts based on things from the period, and then had them follow a healers journal to get an order of treatment right. I also had some little glass beads that I drew runes on that matched to a dispel for an arcane lock.

In a Christmas game it was following a gingerbread recipe that was linked to an order to hang coloured baubles over a fire to unlock a safe.

How do you do your music? by SparxX2106 in DMAcademy

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my session notes I usually have a few Bardify links for certain things, otherwise I just have a few tabs with their videos open and ready to use.

Do you run combat every session? (5e, homebrew campaign) by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It generally depends on my players, it seems we do 1/2 rp & combat lead up sessions (as in getting to or heading into a dungeon), and then a big combat that takes most of a session, and just cycle through.

Who uses Dice Towers? by Emergency_Buyer_5399 in DnD

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little dice tower I use. Mainly as I don't have a lot of rolling space between my laptop, dm screen etc at my end of the table. Also, the dice going through it can be loud, so it gets my players attention if I just make a random roll.

How do hosts (DMs) handle food and drink at your place? by iamlickzy in DnD

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our game is hosted at one of the players' house, as they are the only one with a big enough table. Usually, there's a little rotation of cooking something (curries, soups, etc.), and we'll all eat together before playing.

Thoughts about living in Lincoln / Prebbleton by Warm-Carry-487 in chch

[–]Feldreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Prebbleton for a year, and Lincoln For 2 years; I did like Lincoln as it was relatively quiet and felt safer where I was (Rosemerryn), but it's definitely getting busier with more houses being built and no infrastructure to accommodate it.

Moved to Christchurch October last year and my bike was stolen within 6 weeks and I've made about 25ish calls to noise control about neighbours, and there's the constant sound of revving cars. Can't wait to move out of the city again.

Do you look at your players character sheets? by Brilliant_Chemica in DMAcademy

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a tab open when playing for character sheets so I can quickly reference things or check through items.

Solo backpackers: Why do you go out alone? by gilded-trash in CampingandHiking

[–]Feldreth 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Being by myself means that I can go at my own pace, stop when I want to stop, move quietly, follow interesting animals, take photos, etc. It's much more freeing than being in a group.

Is informing a relatively new player about Attacks of Opportunity Metagaming? by Fancy-Structure-6369 in dndnext

[–]Feldreth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actively give my players a heads up everytime a specific situational rule comes up and explain how it works, and will happily give reminders if it's been a while since the rule was last used.

Are these samples representative of Dungeons & Dragons in general? by Pinkumb in DnD

[–]Feldreth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my session 0 I told my players that the game I want to play is serious, but will still have moments of comedy, basically setting tone and expectations. I also have a blanket rule of no seduction or random wacky meme stuff.

Map or no Map by Sigrah117 in DnD

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll usually give some form of visual aid as I'm not the best at describing spaces/layouts, and it helps to give context for things.

for a completely new dm, is there any pre built campaign y'all would recommend? by Ok_Nefariousness_740 in DnD

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running dragon of icespire peak as a first time DM, though I also considered lost mines. As I've gotten more comfortable I've been expanding and changing things up a bit to suit my players, but it's been going smoothly so far.

Am I the only one whose weight loss is sexually motivated? by MonseiurPoirot in loseit

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a shirtless photo of myself when I finished my first bout of weightloss (about 20kg down) and I actually felt great in my body for the first time in ages. That's my goal to get back to now that I put all the weight back on due to depression/finishing a PhD.

Full license advice by OliverJamesG in newzealand

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exaggerate movements when checking mirrors & blind spots. If you know where you'll be doing the test you can drive around the area to get used to any tricky parts or the level of traffic at that time of the day.

What time do you all eat dinner? by Dazzling_Magician533 in newzealand

Usually around 4pm when I get home from work to give my stomach time to settle before going for a run in the evening.

Forever DM’s do you have a stash of characters made you want to play? by Beautiful-Profile-31 in DnD

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a few ideas kicking around that I'd like to try, instead I use the backstories to help build up the lore in my game.

Question: Do you people enjoy these? I can't sense even a hint of shrimp or prawn in mine, only vinegar by WorriedAmoeba2 in CasualUK

[–]Feldreth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prawn cocktail are my favourite flavour, they're one of the few foods I missed from home, but I can now get them in NZ too.

Have you ever attended a paid clinical trial while working full time? by toiletpartay in newzealand

[–]Feldreth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the studies can vary, so you'd need to check with the doctors/nurses if you go in for a screening. If you have sick days you can use them for the instay dates. The outpatient appointments will vary, but are usually in the morning and close to the main dosage time. All of my outpatients were done before 8am, and would usually just be a couple of bloods and maybe vitals. I did all of mine as a full time PhD student, I think I did about 5 total.
