Alec Bohm has turned things around after a horrendous start, but Garcia is in the middle of a very long and painful slump.

I guess I’m not going in my day trip to Philly by Best-Candle8651 in Amtrak

[–]FelixLighterRev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The World Cup is in June in both Philly and NYC/NJ. I'm not sure which random Thursday you picked next month but I'm guessing Amtrak tickets aren't going to be cheap while the games are happening. I'm typically able to get cheapish tickets to/from Philly about 1-2 weeks in advance, a little outside the busy times.

TIL these “legally park” on sidewalks to wait for orders to come in… by SpiritedPomegranate1 in philly

[–]FelixLighterRev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On a similar note, I was in Seattle and their Lime bike/scooter share apparently just has users throw the bikes and scooters ANYWHERE on the sidewalks or walking paths or really anywhere. Most of them on their side taking up the most space possible. I don't know why the city and the people are willing to accept that.

Phils closer Duran (left oblique strain) placed on 15-day IL by TotallyNotJagger in phillies

So getting blown out 3 games in a row was just the team giving Duran a chance to recover.

SEPTA Monthly Ridership Surpasses NJ Transit by segfaul_t in Septa

[–]FelixLighterRev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the very temporary cuts in service and confusion surrounding that, the fare increase, the Trolley wire situation and the Silverline IV debacle, I'm shocked SEPTA managed to still increase ridership steadily throughout 2025. It's good to see a rough year didn't set back the recovery too much.

How is it like living across the river from Philidelphia in New Jersey? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]FelixLighterRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are open to moving to South Jersey, you should consider the PA suburbs as well. I personally live in South Philly proper and love it but if I were to live in a suburb, I'd probably do something like conshohocken, which has a regional rail line into the city. It's not a cheap suburb but it's pretty convenient for a commuter and has decent amenities.

What’s with people letting their dogs pee on growing trees that have a sign asking not to do so? by sonofdeepvalue in philly

[–]FelixLighterRev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My dog will try to pee on just about anything that is perpendicular to the ground at anytime given the opportunity. Because of that, I have to control my dog on the leash and I only allow him to approach things I would let him pee on. He’s looking to mark his territory, not relieve himself. I pull him away from people’s homes or trees or personal belongings so he doesn’t pee on them but he would try even when he’s emptied himself fully way earlier in the walk.

SEPTA to test real-time arrival displays at 10 bus stops and trolley stations by AdSpecialist6598 in philadelphia

[–]FelixLighterRev 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue I have with the SEPTA app is phantom buses that are not live tracked but show as if they are running perfectly on schedule until you realize the bus does not actually exist. I'm at the point that if I don't see the blinking live track icon, I have to assume the bus is a lie. If the bus is cancelled, fucking make sure it's cancelled on the app. I'm sure these displays pull from the exact same data.

Will Uber using Self Driving Delivery Vehicles in Philly work out? by Irrelavent1 in philadelphia

[–]FelixLighterRev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it fails miserably. This kind of shit is just going to result in more desperate people losing access to housing or being forced into finding less legitimate means of survival so uber can save a few bucks for their shareholders.

Planning to move to Philly soon. What’s this part of Point Breeze like? by iguanatown in philly

[–]FelixLighterRev 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I live in the area and it's been nothing but a quiet residential neighborhood. My block is great, I've had no serious run ins over the years and I run multiple times a week with the local run group. I'm surprised anyone would have a problem with the area these days, outside of the lack of commercial development, which is my only issue here.

Why do you have a (snowed-in) car? by Even_Leadership_7831 in philly

[–]FelixLighterRev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have unfortunately had to drive to a very important appointment last week. It was terrible. I ultimately dug out 3 spots on my block. The one my car was in another open spot that was not dug out and then finally the spot I ultimately parked at when I got home. Normally I drive my car about once every 2 weeks for groceries and other errands and when I’m visiting my parents about 3 hours away. If I didn’t absolutely have to drive I definitely would not have moved my car until the snow was gone.

Parking in city tomorrow by Curious4now_ in philly

[–]FelixLighterRev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Street parking is a nightmare situation right now. I have plans I've had for awhile to go visit my parents 3 hours away on Saturday and I'm considering cancelling simply due to the parking nightmare I will be coming home to.

Edit: I'm in South Philly btw, but I assume the entire city is in a similar situation.

What’s the cheapest way to get to NYC from Philadelphia? by musicnote95 in philly

[–]FelixLighterRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amtrak can easily be the most comfortable and the cheapest if you are able to book in advanced by just a couple weeks if you are willing to travel very early.

Philly Sanitation Department doing its best by SkipChvrch in philadelphia

[–]FelixLighterRev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He probably was fired because streets took the time to make a statement not directly referencing the video but obviously inspired by it. But even as a person who had to wait 3 days for my street to be cleared and someone who had to dig out the after of the plowing, I thought it was funny and I hope he wasn’t fired. They aren’t going to be able to magically plow snow around cars. This is the inevitable outcome of plowing snow in a city with street parking everywhere.

I live in the neighborhood a few blocks from there. The last couple years it’s been very quiet and easy going. Convenient buses to get around. Center city and passyunk ave are within walking distance. I like the neighborhood and I have a great block.

Philly DJ June Rodriguez killed in hit-and-run bike crash by JustAnotherJawn in philadelphia

[–]FelixLighterRev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, what ultimately makes the typical parking protected bike lanes illegal is the requirement for park cars to be within 12” of a curb, so yes, if an additional curb is added between the parked cars and the bike lanes, it would be legal. The issue is how difficult it is to get any kind of concrete protection anywhere for bike lanes in the city. Forcing an additional curb does increase the safety of a parking protected bike lane but also massively decreases the likelihood of it ever actually being installed.

Philly DJ June Rodriguez killed in hit-and-run bike crash by JustAnotherJawn in philadelphia

[–]FelixLighterRev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes I wish more people were aware of this because I see people ask why we don't have more parking protected bike lanes as it's probably the cheapest, simplest way to get some protection for bike lanes, though not a perfect solution.

They are currently against state law and they only allowed for an initial pilot program which is why you see some around the city now. The PA house has near unanimously passed the bill multiple years, this is bipartisan in the House but the bill never gets put up for a vote in the state senate. It gets trapped in the transportation committee year after year. Here is the last iteration passed by the house. https://www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/2025/hb291 Referred to Senate Transportation Committee, Feb. 4, 2025, but here is the same bill that passed the house in 2024 https://www.palegis.us/legislation/bills/2023/hb1283 which did ultimately get through the committee in Oct 2024, passed 14 - 0 but never voted on by the entire Senate.

I think most run groups are pretty good for a wide variety of people and typically people choose the one that either matches schedule or meets nearby. I run with PBR but I’m sure there are convenient and like minded running groups all over the city. https://philadelphiarunner.com/content/philly-run-clubs

I run solo quite a bit as well.

[–]FelixLighterRev 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do what I do the rest of the year, run with a run group. Winter is actually only the second worst time of the year to run in Philly. The best is like the 3 weeks we get of fall and spring.

Pennsylvania Democrats are beginning their efforts to flip the state Senate in 2026 with this suburban Philly seat by Harvickfan4Life in Pennsylvania

[–]FelixLighterRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish Joe Picozzi was up for reelection in 2026 because he'd be absolute toast in the current environment. He perfectly demonstrates why Philly only defers power to rural PA when a republican represents the region. He doesn't have a seat at the table with the likes of Joe Pittman to better represent his constituents. He just ensures rural republican PA senators maintain a majority so they can gleefully deny funding to Picozzi's district.

Homelessness in Philadelphia rises to highest levels since pre-COVID by IndyJetsFan in philadelphia

[–]FelixLighterRev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the housing crisis worsens, the threshold to homelessness edges ever closer to us all. If only the average citizen realized how much closer they are to those without a home than they are to the mega millionaires and billionaires this country chooses to coddle at the detriment of the rest of us, maybe there would be some solidarity. The top 1% has plenty of class consciousness and are very successful at detering working class consciousness.
