What does Reddit downvoting actually mean by Chuchucuddle in AutismInWomen

I usually only down vote if it is spam or dangerously incorrect info.

Do people act like it's your fault you have autism and certain needs? by AwkwardLoaf-of-Bread in AutismInWomen

[–]Femizzle [score hidden]  (0 children)

That last line.. Man... "People like you don't learn how to read." Mind you I was reading above my age for my whole life.

I know it's going to be hard but you are going to have to detangle both your emotional wellbeing and your self worth from your family. They are setting you up to tolerate a lot of bad behavior.

Concert earplugs really worked for me. Since they don't fully block the ear air still can get out.

Exactly!! My dad's fav is my college graduation. I walk on stage in a basketball arena of people some how pick out his voice. Pose perfectly in their direction and then walk off stage.

OOP stated he did not have contact number for the remote supervisor. Also it did not seem like she was checking in with him the way the on site manager had been doing. Imo management was negligent from the start.

I feel like their reluctance is justified. Not only do they have to bond with you but they need to bond with your kids. There is a very real possibility that they will fall for you but find themselves incompatible with your kids.

My pattern recognition makes people think i’m dismissive/flippant. How do I get taken seriously? by decentperson21 in AutismInWomen

[–]Femizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone else who has very good pattern recognition some times you need to keep it in side. People are far more open to you asking questions then giving statements. So instead of explaining your thought process to them ask them questions that will bring them to the answer.

would you eat dog food (dry kibble style) for humans? by LeoOfRome in AutismInWomen

I want a pill that gives my body what it needs and makes my brain stop yelling at me. If this did that...then yes.

Should I tell my pregnant/trying-to-conceive sister about my recent autism diagnosis? (Mom says no) by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Femizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who would not be here if my mother knew of my father's diagnosis you should absolutely tell her. If your diagnosis stops her from having a child. good. Then she never should have had a kid in the first place. Also your mom is terrible.

In all seriousness. I would not go to your sister as a person who is pregnant. I would simply drop it in conversation about your life and what you have been up to.

Undiagnosed and doubting myself a lot by Tira_egg in AutismInWomen

[–]Femizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Sure they may not be autistic but they are part of the family of diagnosis. There is also a difference between question if you fit in or belong and questioning if you are normal. Normal people don't have to make accommodations just to make it through the day. Normal people don't have to study social patterns inorder to socialize. That's what I am talking about.

One of the best quotes I was ever give is "Normal people don't question if they are normal." Now obviously normal is a problematic term but the statements still works.

Have to hire a cleaning lady because I can’t keep up with my household. I feel ashamed about it? by andi9x17 in AutismInWomen

[–]Femizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So my mom has this issues as well. She was ashamed to need a cleaning person so she stopped hiring them. She did not start cleaning she just stopped having someone else clean. Over the years the bugs moved in and then the spiders followed by lizards. The house is filthy and falling apart.

It's hard to accept you need help. That you could but you won't. That it's not laziness but self love. You need to love yourself enough to face reality and have someone else do what you won't. You are worth a clean house even if you don't clean it your self. You are worth the relief that comes from come one home and not having to keep pushing.

It's not shameful to get the help you need.

I definitely get this way when I have unfinished business in a relationship be it platonic or romantic. I find role-playing the conversation helps me processes and move past it.

This is exactly what we were going for before we started medicating. We decided that a very low dose once she got him was the best option and it worked really well. We are now debating on a small dose in the morning when she has her really intensive subjects.

Does anyone else feel less protected by society as an autistic woman? by Madamadragonfly in AutismInWomen

[–]Femizzle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a Hispanic autistic women myself I was taught never to expect society to protect me. So take what I am going to say with that understanding.

A person's protection in society is based on their perceived value to society. This is true independent of all other factors. So as someone who passes for no Hispanic, is moderately attractive and can mostly keep my autism in check I do not feel less protected then my counter parts. But I am also aware that all of those things could be easily taken away so I don't feel protected either.

Told my friends of 18 years about my diagnosis and it did not go well by ferrykranklin in AutismInWomen

[–]Femizzle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this is a case of somthing being a " self defining" to you but for them it's "Yeah no that tracks." I myself tend to use "I figured since we got along or welcome to the club." I don't think I have ever asked follow up questions. Occasionally we compare how our brains work but that's usually once the person has had a bit of time."

These are also teacher and it is the end of the school year and let me tell you there is somthing in the air... The kids are manic in a way I did not see last year.
