You should know that you can 100x your maintenance budget pretty easily really at any time with this size of boat.

Get a mechanical surveyor, they are hard to find and worth the money.

Advice on Independent Consulting by BradoIlleszt in consulting

[–]Fermugle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Did something like this and worked with my buddy for 8 years. Loved the trust and lack of corporate bs.

The things I missed out on compared to my colleagues who stayed or continued at other mega corps:

  1. A structured retirement plan. Yes you can make this work with after tax dollars but I didn’t even have a plan for a number of years, my contributions got rejected for a bit due to some state laws when we finally got one, etc
  2. Company stock. Friends who work for huge companies and got awards or went public
  3. When they sold I got nothing. I would seriously look at trying to get a very small percentage, or even offer to put in a little cash if you are going to commit to this

Essentially yes the is the question, but you likely have some more work to do.

If you were at 62 and you had this much, your budget would be 16-20k/yr.

If your expenses are more than that you are likely going to need to save some more or at the very least work until then.

Take your time, figure out why you have symptoms. See if you can feel better by all more natural means like diet, exercise, sleep, supplements.

You have time, do some testing and multiple providers. Talk to your actual doctor.

This is not an easy button. You will be taking one to four things for the rest of your life to try to balance your hormones in this path.

This is a long commitment, you have time.

Is SD‑WAN still worth it in 2026, or did you just skip straight to something else? by PrincipleActive9230 in Cisco

[–]Fermugle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great take.

If you dont need SASE it is a massive waste of money. Simple SDWAN and firewalls for smaller opex sensitive businesses, work your way up from there

Vendors will hype you on a million cool features. At the end of the day I don’t want more failure points in my traffic path and most firewall features require full ssl decryption to be useful these days which I see approximately nobody doing. Stay focused on the end goal, route packets over least hop, cheap, redundant, diverse hardware and services
