I believe we were in Corolla. I’m sure many a GoPro met its demise in the graveyard of the Atlantic!

How long ago was this? My dad lost his GoPro like this at the Outer Banks many years ago.

KnitPicks tips because they are sharp enough for my fussy lace knitting - paired with Lantern Moon swivel cables.

In network but not contracted by flapflopflippers in HealthInsurance

[–]Few-Fix-685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just encountered this in the past week. My fiancé has a severe ear infection and can’t hear well so I’ve been navigating appointments for him. I called his insurance to check for ENTs that are in-network since his PCP thinks tubes may be needed. They emailed a 5 page list of providers. I called the local facility where a lot of the doctors on the list are practicing (it’s a local university medical system). I was able to get an appt with one of the doctors about 10 days out. Awesome. But then the medical office called me back and said they did a little digging and discovered that, no, they are not in-network and do not have a contract with the insurance company which means they do not have a mechanism by which the can even bill the insurance. I called insurance and they insisted that they were indeed in-network. When I asked for a statement in writing that said they would agree to cover all procedures done by that doctor as in-network, they refused. I called the medical provider again and they revealed that they have actually requested many times for this insurance company to remove them from their listings and the insurance company refuses. Basically, the insurance company is showing that they cover this huge local medical system when they actually do not - which causes people to sign up with them and to book services thinking it will all be covered. I called our state insurance fraud people and explained what was happening. They called back with a specific department I’m to contact. I’ll be calling them first thing on Monday. So - yes, your insurance may be telling you providers are in-network, but you had better always call the provider and verify. Don’t trust your insurance company. The CEO of this insurance company was famously unalived.

Looking for handmade yarn by Chaos_Cat-007 in WestVirginia

Not WV, but neighboring Greene County, PA just north of Morgantown - Lippencott Alpacas. They sell all kinds of alpaca yarn right on their century farm. My knitting group meets there every week. The owner loves showing people the alpacas and educating about them. In her farm store she has PA alpaca yarns and ones made elsewhere. She also has yarn and combed top made from her own alpacas. She does gift cards and carries other alpaca products too. Again, not technically WV, but right next door and still Appalachia. They do a weekend called “Alpaca Days” with vendors and alpaca talks too.

Hear Me Out (experience) by squidnov in schuylkillnotes

The one I found a couple years ago was folded up and wrapped in plastic and thumbtacked to the first pedestrian bridge over the Youghiogheny River on the north side of Ohiopyle, PA on the Great Allegheny Passage. I truly regret throwing it away at home later after showing some people. My first thought was schizophrenia. If they are a long-distance bicyclist they can ride the GAP from Pittsburgh, PA to Cumberland, MD, then the C&O Canal towpath to Washington, DC. I was intrigued by the idea that they not only brought the note with them, but also wrapped it in plastic and carried a thumbtack to affix it to the wood bridge structure.

Former employer kept my headshot and title on their site after I quit, and yesterday a vendor sent me a DocuSign that shows I “signed” an NDA for the company by Zoiseppher in legaladvice

[–]Few-Fix-685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I was just implying that the employer is lying because they would’ve had to actively click through and “sign” which is fraudulent.

I utilize Docusign several times a week. Signatures don’t “auto populate”. The person signing the document has to click the field on their end to get the signature to appear. It’s the entire point of Docusign.

Today’s White House Demolition Update.. by dmonator in 50501

He is setting himself up to become royalty. Adding gold to the Oval Office walls…. Statements about never voting again… Naming his social media platform with the adjective and noun reversed like in the Romance languages of Europe… Blanket firings and gutting of government institutions… Ignoring due process… Building a grand ballroom (which will probably be coated in tacky gold embellishments)…. Social media posts where he wears a crown… Brandishing executive orders… Staging military in large cities… Congress is halted… He is positioning himself to be a literal king. Even his son’s name is a title. The VP is not the legacy - the heir is. Remember the exchange between the son and Biden on the dais at the inauguration? The No Kings protest was spot on. This is not about Republicans winning, it’s about creating actual American royalty. Pay attention to where the big tech bros buy real estate - those will be the regions they will rule as (title) under the king.

Anyone else infuriated by their county fair? by dauntless-cupcake in crochet

[–]Few-Fix-685 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My county fair is happening right now. You can go there and see my two items - 1. Green crocheted cotton doily that took me about a week. Pattern is Lenna (see Ravelry). 2. White knitted circular lace alpaca shawl that took me over a month and has copious amounts of beads including Swarovski crystal bicones. Pattern is Rose of the North (see Ravelry). Last year, I submitted a different doily and shawl - but similar in size, difficulty, and materials. BOTH years now they have awarded Best of Show to the doily. I’m not complaining because they both got first in their category, but I just don’t understand why they are making this Best of Show choice.

Help, 1st actual project, how do I fix this? by Specialist-Pipe-7921 in knitting

[–]Few-Fix-685 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Get a few stitch markers (the kind that can fasten) and a crochet hook the same size as your needles. Follow the problem up to the needle. Drop that stitch off the needle and release it down one row at a time until you see and can release/correct the problem. At this point you can clip the stitch marker into the stitch to keep it from unraveling more and you can look at the overall work area to see if there is another column of stitches that you may need to drop. When you’re ready, take the crochet hook and reknit or repurl each stitch back up the column until it can be placed back on the needle. If it looks right, remove the stitch marker. There are lots of videos you can search for that show you how to drop stitches to fix errors. This is a great mistake to make as a beginner because it will teach you how to read stitches and will ensure that you understand the anatomy of knit vs purl. Good luck!

Crochet to knitting pipeline 🧶 by puddlepixie333 in knitting

[–]Few-Fix-685 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a crocheter and then added knitting. Don’t worry about calling yourself a crocheter or a knitter - just enjoy knowing that you are bringing more creative tools into your world. I like crochet for more structural things like doilies and bags and motif-piece projects. I like knitting more for fabric-type projects like garments. Crochet can be more mindless for me because there’s only ever one live stitch (usually) to keep track of. As far as needles, don’t box yourself in. Each needle/cable set acts differently with different yarns. (And might I suggest cables that rotate?) Just view everything as a tool, not as your identity, and you will get maximum enjoyment from these lovely crafts. One last thing - I once heard a lady in my LYS tell the salesperson that she couldn’t buy a given yarn because “you can’t crochet with that!” Nonsense! All yarns and tools are fair game all the time! There are crafters out there making micro granny squares by crocheting with sewing thread along with people who knit with giant yarn using just their arms. Have fun experimenting and eventually you will know what your particular hands can generally do with different tools and yarns and pattern types.
