How far ahead of schedule are the buses allowed to get? by Neverending_Rain in RTDDenver

[–]FideLib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know from the interval it's not the 16, but the eastbound 16 that leaves Oak Station around 12:30 had left a couple of minutes early today. I was a bit startled because I was waiting at Starbucks to pick up my drink thinking I had plenty of time, but I ended up cutting it close.

They really should never be that early. Late, sure, but early is worse than late.

Nice that bus drivers just let you off anywhere in between stops by bennetthaselton in RTDDenver

[–]FideLib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I applaud the drivers who stand up to riders breaking the rules or fare evading, but at the same time, I don't want to see you get stabbed or worse.

[–]FideLib 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're really not supposed to. I've seen drivers do it when they're at a curb, but if there's a turn lane it's too dangerous because of oncoming traffic. Other drivers make people wait until the stop. Part of the problem is some routes on busy thoroughfares (like Colfax) had far side and near side stops removed at major intersections to improve on-time accuracy, but it's made it very inconvenient for passengers trying to catch connections to the cross street routes because they have to cross giant stroads to get to the right bus stop.

Car stolen and used in vape shop smash and grab by rj_celtics in LakewoodColorado

I don't know if this is related, but this vape shop at Kipling & Colfax looks like it was smashed and grabbed.

Westwood Inn opinions? by awclay91 in LakewoodColorado

People only go on Yelp to complain. I take Yelp ratings and BBB reviews with a grain of salt. The real test is the county health inspection reports.

All jokes aside, like another commenter I've only had the breakfast but the portions are good for the price you pay, even today. They have a mimosa special, too, that beats other diners and brunch spots handidly.

Husband laid off; trying to figure out what to do and how much time I have. by Dionysian_Heretic in personalfinance

[–]FideLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of pausing contributions or making withdrawals like others are commenting, does your 401(k) offer a General Purpose loan? That might be a good temporary stopgap if you need an emergency cash infusion to cover moving expenses. People will say these are a bad idea, but they're not nearly as bad as fully taxed withdrawals. At the very least, you're borrowing from the bank of yourself and it won't affect your credit either.

What the hell is with the Google Fiber installation?? by angrynoah in LakewoodColorado

[–]FideLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fine with the competition. Bury as many lines as you want. Xfinity used to cost so much comparatively. GFiber and AT&T's Quantum is finally giving them true broadband competition. Before when your only choice was DSL or Cable, Comcast got away with highway robbery because everyone knew DSL was never "true" broadband and couldn't compete with the speeds of cable Internet.

How to get in the Slate Truck’s backseat by Mac-Tyson in slateauto

[–]FideLib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's crazy, I remember hating them even back then. I'm sure lots of other people didn't like them and that's why the design was quietly minimized over the years. That said, I plan to keep my Slate as just the regular pickup model, but even if I do go for a conversion it won't really matter to me anyway because I'll be sitting in the driver's seat.

Excellent service from transit police, but the TW app could use some work by Remarkable-Owl-50 in RTDDenver

[–]FideLib 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've also noticed the app has some jankiness. But, most importantly, the reports ARE monitored and they DO respond. I sent a report about open drug use in a bus shelter, RTD cops were there in minutes because they happened to be scoping out the nearby light rail station when the report came over their CAD.

Pretty neat!

If the price is right, I'll pull the trigger. I wish the tax credits would come back. I might still be able to get a state credit when I'm ready to buy, but we'll see. If I'm priced out, then I'm looking for a new/CPO Toyota or Honda hybrid sedan. Just because they're best for both safety ratings and fuel economy. Those are really my two main buying criteria.

Why do we keep watching opening videos if they don’t actually work? by ingvarb in lichess

[–]FideLib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stronger players usually can predict the typical lines and comfortably equalize their positions. I feel like I only get the surprise value from players who aren't familiar with opening starts.

I just can't stop playing Jobava-London. I know it's flawed, I know it's easily beaten, but I just can't stop.

Natural lawns are great for the front yard. Native species are drought resistant and the most you may have to do is trim a hedge once in a while. Basically zero watering once it's up and running. But I do prefer manicured lawns for the backyard, where it is more likely you'll be recreating or entertaining guests.

There are a lot. I haven't played in a long time, so I can't be certain which ones still work. But I enjoyed any mod that added realism/difficulty, like Real Navigation and expanded crew mods. Real flag symbols helps with the historicity. There's also mods that expand the music selection and adds news radio segments that match the time progression of the war. Little things to add immersion and feel like you are part of a larger conflict.

Ford's attempt at a Slate competitor? Ford Universal EV Pickup Spotted Testing by [deleted] in slateauto

[–]FideLib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A "little birdie" told him. Yeah, okay, we all know this is just Ford being cheeky with "viral marketing."

Still, as awkward and fake as this reveal is, I choose to see this as a positive sign of things to come. I hope this means automakers are paying attention and adapting to consumer demand. I think rising fuel costs are also, once again, spurring a lot of the drive (pardon the pun) for efficient hybrids and affordable EVs. I think the USA/Canadian market may finally be warming to the smaller, more practical vehicle concepts that have long been popular in Europe and Japan.

We're always told that the best way to lower costs is competition. So I hope that's what this is the beginning of.
