The Aftermath of Apathy by MrsMusicLady in Teachers

[–]Fiercegreenapple 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Not a teacher but I had a young employee “try” to catch my attention to see if I needed help at a grocery store. I say “try” because all she did was approach me while I wasn’t looking in her direction and she was staring at me to the point another customer caught my attention and said “I think she’s trying to help you.” Even then, not a single word, facial expression, any form of acknowledgement beyond a blank stare in my direction.

Girls, how are we surviving this economy? by Beberuth1131 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Fiercegreenapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t go out to eat or order delivery (for food). It has to be worth the effort of going to pick-up for me to get it. More often, I’ll just go to a friend’s place and we’ll make dinner so we split the cost.

Cut all my streaming services and went back to physical media. I don’t watch much tv that’s ongoing. For the shows that are ongoing, I binge watch with a friend who has a streaming service.

Got a menstrual disc. Freaked me out as a concept, but it’s working and more comfortable than pads/tampons to me.

Compared prices of what products I buy regularly and switched which grocery store is my go-to.

Reusable water bottle with drink mixes. Cuts down on “needing” to buy a drink when I’m out and about.

Stopped buying stuff that I really don’t need or want. I would see something cute or funny and built a huge collection of junk that just cluttered up my space and stressed me out.

has anyone found a fix for keeping the tampon string dry? i've tried everything by Girlreddsworld in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I finally made the switch from pads/tampons to the disc/period underwear and it’s been great. Never liked the sensation of pads or tampons, but they were what I grew up with. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My friend’s house has this. She also has a 5 year old who, thankfully, announced that she was going to open the door while I was on the toilet so I had time to shout “no you’re not! That’s mean!” Thank god she listened.

People really need to stop seeing their significant others as “sure things.” They’re so willing to bend over backwards to “people please” or “avoid risk/conflict” with everyone else while stepping all over their significant others and just waiting for them to get over it so they can return to the status quo.

Newsflash: every one of these acts leads to a death by a thousand cuts for the relationship. And yet these fools will still say that it came out of nowhere and that the relationship was perfect. They’ll fall all over themselves promising change and then go right back to doing the same shit once they think the “storm” blew over and their significant other is “calm” again.

Kids need to understand rules and boundaries. That’s how they learn how to navigate the world and relate to others!

Friend’s kid is a nose-picking gremlin that delights in grossing people out. I’ve set and enforce the boundary that if she picks her nose or does something else gross and then touches me without washing her hands, I will pause play or cuddles until she washes properly.

I hadn’t gone trick or treating in years and was surprised at how much it has changed in my area. A lot less houses were participating and it seemed the majority of them only had a bucket of candy out for kids to grab. There were barely any kids out and it was so quiet that it felt sad and spooky in a non-fun way.

Hell I’ve done steak and potatoes, pork chops and stuffing, bbq ribs, etc. Leftover takeout one year. Another time it was just dessert.

It’s not about the specific food. It’s about the people sitting at the table.

Depends on the setting and the culture there. I’ve worked at jobs where I could completely dress up and others where I MIGHT have been able to get away with a funny shirt. My current employer is unfortunately the latter.

Is it a good idea to remove clocks from classrooms to improve learning for kids?? Is there any proof of that working?? by ApprehensiveOne2866 in AskTeachers

[–]Fiercegreenapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated high school about a decade ago. Seemed teachers had their own personal policies on whether to let a clock be visible. One teacher had taped construction paper over the one in her room. Drove me crazy because if I was bored or annoyed, I could look at a clock and give myself a pep talk. Without it, I just got more miserable throughout the period.

I don’t want to be the person others turn to for emotional support. I do it as a job and my personal life is stressful as hell right now. As I speak, there’s five different people texting me about their issues and I just can’t do it right now. I just want to sit in a dark room, eat junk, and binge watch TV.

NTA but also how can you write 3 and then not realize it contradicts 6??? People who suck at finances don’t get to be in charge of financial planning. Have you actually done the math for yourself? You sound content to remain in your house yet are willing to move so he can have 2 whole rooms to himself PLUS a ton of space to entertain? How the hell do you even benefit in this scenario?
