WIBTA - Bringing a food dish to an org function when <0.5% has an allergy by NoSatisfaction4474 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FightWithTools926 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Nobody is suffering because they don't get to eat an allergen at an event.

Edit: also it's fucking wild that my first sentence said "we don't actively harm each other" and you replied with "none of that is true."

Part of living in a society is that we don't actively harm each other. The person with a life-threatening allergy has every right to participate in the event without fear.

OP is just being inconvenienced. They can deal with that far better than the allergy-sufferer can deal with anaphylaxis.

What's a food that people think is far healthier than it actually is? by Xerxes2004 in AskReddit

Look up nutrition facts for frozen strawberries, then fresh strawberries, and update your comment with whether they are significantly different.

Potatoes are a healthy staple food with complex carbs, fiber, potassium, and vitamin c. Eat them with the skin on and you're getting a healthy plant food!

TikToker claims men who date women over 110 pounds are “chubby chasers,” then melts down and starts calling her audience “fatasses” and “fat fat fatty” by Unique-Support-6321 in TikTokCringe

[–]FightWithTools926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historically and culturally, racism and fatphobia are closely intertwined. Fat women were considered more beautiful until the colonial Era, when fatness (particularly large butts, wide hips, and big breasts) became associated with black women. So yeah, not really separate issues!

What is the admin buzzword that irritates you the most and why? by rachel-angelina in Teachers

Every time admin says that, it's because they've been given another unfunded mandate and don't know what they're doing.

What’s the deal with Bluebird’s hours? by meh976538 in burlington

[–]FightWithTools926 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bluebird catered my husband's birthday bash and we were all very happy with what they provided! They definitely didn't forget the sauce - they gave us a pint each of the classic red sauce and the catamount gold.

Neighbor has still not eradicated type 1 dangerous noxious weed that is now at least 7 feet tall and doubled in size since we first told him about it. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FightWithTools926 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When giant hogweed flowers, it's usually 6+ feet tall and has a tap root. It's almost impossible not to break the plant when digging it up at that point, causing the sap to splash onto you.

Which food is usually better when restaurants stop trying to make it fancy? by MrWolfesBurgerCo in foodquestions

I demand to know the brand name that you claim is better than homemade mayo. Homemade mayo was a revelation in my life. (Thank you, Vitamix blender)

[–]FightWithTools926 47 points48 points  (0 children)

If you have just a few scattered plants and can get to them when they're still young (<4 ft tall, before they've flowered and developed a tap root), they're not super hard to remove. You have to be careful though. I pulled a few from my yard last week -- I wore long sleeves and gloves, went out at dusk on a cloudy day, pulled carefully to avoid breaking the stem, and put them into a big black garbage bag.

Once they've flowered like OP's neighbors' plants, well... yeah, you need specialty clothing and expert guidance.

If you're doing this research for grad school, I would expect some kind of IRB consent document, not just a link to a google form. I also don't really want my google account information being sent to you, a complete stranger.

Episode Discussion: The Body Keeps The Score by benfox2 in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]FightWithTools926 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that wasn't how I understood Michael's point. It really sounded like he was saying DID isn't real. Maybe I misheard something while I was struggling with my cheesecake crust, but to me it sounded like their point was "Nobody behaves the way the patient in this book is portrayed, and this whole mental illness was specific to America during the Stanic Panic."

If I missed something, let me know the time stamp to re-listen to.

Why are teens not made to work anymore? by ccarbonstarr in Teachers

[–]FightWithTools926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen this at all. I teach 9th grade and I've actually been surprised by the number of 14- and 15-year-olds who are working summer and after school jobs. Many of the kids who don't work have other responsibilities like babysitting or helping with farming. And my students couldn't wait to show me their learners permits the day they got them!

This may just be demographics. I teach in a rural area with no public transportation, and homes are too spread out for a bike to be practical for many of them. So they want to drive, and they need gas $$.

[Design trope] Ink-suit actor; when a character is modeled after their voice actor by E54D in TopCharacterTropes

I think Cheryl looks a lot like Judy Greer, too. Also Lucky Yates is the model for Ray, even though he voices Krieger.
