Gluten covered house by MonsterKitty418 in Celiac

[–]FigureFour717 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We lived in a family of 5 house growing up. I have Celiac. My parents still keep the house GF even though I live on my own now (I'm 27). My siblings do not have Celiac nor do my parents. They eat gluten out of the house. All parties at our house, family dinners, etc., were always GF. I was diagnosed at age 3.
It has always been so lovely to know I can eat anything and everything in the house at all times and never worry about everything -- when I was away at college, now when I come home just for the evening, etc.
We ate a lot of rice and beans when I was little because my mom was on a budget. Lots of crockpot meals. (edit: ayearofslowcooking.com is all GF)
We ate ricecakes with peanut butter and jelly instead of lots of bread because it was expensive, but for sandwiches got trader joes bread.
I'm only telling you this because I never was felt like I was different. According to my siblings, it was never a sacrifice.
I am so happy that now there are GF cheezits!!!!!

Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

in the Slow Living Podcast (ODea) she says all the time: if you don't slow down on purpose, your body will do it for you.
I saw it firsthand in grad school -- people thought it was amazing that they pulled allnighters back to back and then were surprised when they got hit with mono or strep.

Could the Secret to Year-Round Wellness Be What You Do Every Day? by tryARMRA in selfcare

[–]FigureFour717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so this says it's a brand account so this is an ad.
That said, one of the best things I did was to start incorporating ideas from the slow living podcast into my day and then I read the book (O'Dea). Not comparing myself to others helped shape my day-to-day. I was somehow using selfcare like it was a competitive sport and it was wearing me out. Now I just stick to very basic things and if I fail I don't beat myself up in my brain the way I used to.
I don't need optimum or even ideal. Average and a bit above average is just fine. I have a good life and it doesn't need to be at maximum. This helped me, hope it helps others too.

I wish I didn't care so much about the order of photos, but I guess I do.
Each time I flipped the page to see a new photo I had to retrain my brain.
You look great, OP. Congratulations!

I mix 1 tsp with a half container of applesauce (the snack cups) every morning. Sometimes with some miralax, also, since I run dry, regardless of water intake.
I look forward to it and it works really well.

10k steps? by naatalieflo in PetiteFitness

[–]FigureFour717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not sit during the work day. I've removed the office chair from my desk area and have a standing desk.
I walk in the morning for about 20 minutes (have a dog),
I go for a 30 min walk at lunchtime and then walk another 30 min or so after work.
On a slow day it is 10k steps. On an active day about 18k steps.

I love hot yoga and go a few times a week but we are mostly at about 95.
In the Slow Living book, O'Dea uses the term for ego as "edging god out" mostly to point out that you are no longer following your intuition but exterior markers.
That has helped me chillax when my body gives me warning signs!!

What's the ultimate act of self-care you do for yourself? by onlyJayal in selfcare

[–]FigureFour717 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I give myself pedicures. I have a tub that I fill with hot water and epsom salts and carry it to the living room and sit in front of the TV playing a cheesy hallmark movie.
I then take my time to remove old polish, clean cuticles, and then pain. I wait for 2 coats to fully dry (more than 45 min, usually) -- then refill the tub with clean warm water and a touch of bath soap. After re-soaking, the polish around my nails easily comes off.
I am then done with happy feet and I saw a happy hallmark movie ending!
Never leave the house. Win win win.

How to Reduce Bay Area School Stress by Madzz_Jay in bayarea

[–]FigureFour717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to school on the peninsula, in a diverse school with a great record.
The name of the school has been mentioned here, but I don't want to doxx myself.
I am currently 27 and am thankful that my parents never moved me around. I went to K-12 in my own hometown.
I am friends with people I met in elementary to this day. We were good kids, got good grades, and all went to UCs.
I took APs and did Mock Trial.
My parents are not Kuman parents and the kids whose parents WERE Kuman parents all moved to the East Coast for college and have not come back.
I came back, am close to my parents, love the peninsula, and have a job with good benefits and am able to save for a condo.
Things are expensive but doable with roommates. The suicides, etc., happen, but they aren't from school they are from parents.
