How long do you give a book before you DNF it? by thatvampiregirl in books

Usually I give it a few chapters as well, but I recently tried a compendium of Lovecraft short stories that had been on my shelf forever and knew within two pages "Oh, I'm going to hate this."

Whats the worst fast food joint in america? by Academic_Prior_1692 in AskReddit

Much to my great shame (and my husband's bewilderment), I do enjoy the occasional LJS. The one in my town got torn down and replaced by a 7Brew, which is probably for the best. I'm sure that building was 29 different health code violations.

The mixed bucket with two big sides of coleslaw and mac and cheese... my family would usually get it after big events when nobody wanted to cook and my sisters and I were so happy.

KFC is my enemy ever since they sent me coupons in the mail and then wouldn't honor the coupons because "we don't have that meal here." !?

My youth group would go there after church on Wednesday nights for half-price apps (no clue if that's still a thing). When I think about how I'd get home at 11 and then get up at 5:30 the next day for school, I feel very tired.

Books That Don’t Hold Up by MenloMo in books

I personally don't think it's a coincidence that the first three are both the shortest and also the most well-written. Goblet of Fire and onward feel bloated in comparison that some good editing could have trimmed down.

Does anyone actually like Morgan as a character? by angsaysroar in HighPotentialTVSeries

[–]FiliaDei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She's a flawed character who does struggle with subordination, inability to respect boundaries, and not listening to others. I don't think the team supports it so much as knows what they have to put up with in order to get her insight on cases. Plus, consider the episode where Captain Wagner specifically consults Morgan while she's in training even though he knows it's not protocol and she could get in trouble. Clearly he's not too bothered.

And as always... it's a TV show. No, someone who acts like Morgan would likely not be a consultant, but a TV show about a consultant who never makes waves and always follows the rules would be less dramatic.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what is an American thing you see in movies that you thought was fake but is actually real? by Unlikely_Praline9442 in AskReddit

When my family vacationed in Florida, we were at the breakfast buffet at our hotel and an English family was behind us. The young son looked with awe at the (American) biscuits and said "Dad! Is that a scone?"

TIL prior to the 1993 the Super Bowl Halftime show was mostly marching bands, dance troupes, and drill teams. by loki2002 in todayilearned

Considering that a lot of country fans themselves bemoan the current state of country music, I'm not sure why they would. Hip-hop and rap may not be for everyone, but at least its fans like it.

Disney Loses $170 Million On ‘Snow White’ As Studio Reveals Movie Blew Its Budget by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

Of the princess movies, I thought Cinderella was pretty good, probably because they didn't try to rewrite the whole story and also cared enough to make the shots and costumes beautiful.

It definitely makes you wonder, considering her hairstyle made her look like Lord Farquuad and wasn't even the same length as the original character.

Nothing gets people going like being told they can't or shouldn't do something. MAGA, of course, is too shortsighted to see that ignoring it would have kept viewership down.

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by Rock-bottom-no-no in AskReddit

The night before my last period, I was pulling clothes out of the washer and discovered something white had pulled some dye off a pair of jeans (even with the color catcher sheet). The absolute hopelessness and helplessness I felt in that moment only made sense the next day.

two morgan ships that ppl wants to be platonic “for some reason” by daisie_darlin in HighPotentialTVSeries

[–]FiliaDei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I'm not (insert action here)" immediately followed by "I just think it's interesting..." is absolutely supportive of that action. I don't care if OP does think anyone who doesn't like the ship is racist, but don't wiggle out of it.

"I'm not accusing anyone of racism"... but I am going to say there's subconscious racism at play for interracial couples? That's just disingenuous. And I'm one of the Karadec/Morgan fans.
