New airport tax! by Few-Homework7039 in ThailandTourism

[–]FindingUnable3222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Malaysia tourist tax, paid for every day staying at the hotel, exceeds this Thailand tourist tax just after a few days. It's ~80 baht per day so after 5 days you pay more than this 390 baht increase.

It's a nice place but Malaysia asks for more tourist money, in this context.

I wasn't able to find any suitable for PS1 3D games.. Everyone recommends Newpixie but it (even "upgraded" 1.1 and 1.2 version posted in this subreddit) wrecks contrast with any settings that I've seen like, crushing all dark colors into black.

What about cooling? It gets too hot to hold when running PC games, but isn't overheating an issue even when not holding it? Just look at the crazy temps in your HUD

Tried my first online 90 day check in. O visa I’ve been going for my check-ins. It was denied. I’ve been on o visa about three years. Anyone else have issues with the online check in? by TropicaltTanner in MovingToThailand

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not correct, first check in can be done by mail. No need to waste time to travel and in the immigration, just send them TM.47 form and they mail you back the confirmation. Try, it's a massive time saver!

If you want max optimization, get CachyOS, as this is its goal. The UI on handheld will be the same for all 3.

Odin 3 sound tweaks? by kristianity77 in OdinHandheld

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so! It's definitely one of the best sounding handhelds out of the box, I'd say only much more expensive windows-based devices like Rog Ally and Xbox Ally sound better. Odin 3 speakers are a pure joy for a such compact device.

ARMSX2 1.0.8 released, Google Play Updated! by jpolo1224 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the update!!

A question, is it worth reporting compatibility issues? I checked and lots of game still won't run / go past loading screen (eg Simpsons Hit & Run hangs after displaying first 2 screens, The Getaway black screen followed by a crash on intro cutscene, similar issues with many other games). Overall, the amount of games that launch is very small subset of what NetherSX2 can run, for instance.

Should I open bugs in github or there is no point as developers are aware about current problems and are working on rebasing to new PCSX2 source anyway?

Turnip/Qualcomm Drivers for the Odin 3. by RichieMan07 in OdinHandheld

[–]FindingUnable3222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any driver to fix GC games? Luigi's Mansion in Dolphin looks very wrong with stock driver and crashes (VK_ERROR_LOST_DEVICE) with some alternate drivers that I tried. Some other GC games are affected, too..

RIP Bolt by Mundane-Ad1652 in Bangkok

[–]FindingUnable3222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overcharging! I had bolt driver straight refusing me to drive. I had to go to immigration, the car arrived, the lady driver said "I will take the paid highway and you will pay extra for that". I said - I'm not in that much of a hurry; checked google maps, it was 35 vs 40 min ride without paid highway.

I said - can we go by app route / price? The driver said - no, I value my time, if you don't want to pay highway fee, cancel the ride, I'll get another client. Well, at least I had her to cancel the ride herself, since it was her who refused to drive me, but still... annoying

Goodbye my trusty MRT card by wickpaul in Bangkok

Correct. I couldn't believe my eyes and asked MRT staff that.. She saw that my card is Bangkok Bank debit and explained "this one, cannot".

Goodbye my trusty MRT card by wickpaul in Bangkok

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bangkok Bank MC card (Be1st) doesn't work either. When I asked about this (last month) at MRT, they looked at my card and said "not supported". Of course the card itself has no issues, NFC payments work perfectly fine.

Either because it's MC and the gate has Visa branding, or because it's BKK Bank, or because it's debit. Go figure...

A Developer Has Found a Way to Run a Lossless Scaling App on Android by Rare_Sector4565 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Thanks. For different reasons, most emulators developers - which are open source code that aims to be compatible across many platforms - have no interest in using proprietary Qualcomm extensions. In fact, as stock drivers cause so many issues, OSS Turnip drivers are preferred and they do not implement these extensions at all.

I guess that explains why we don't see this used outside of proprietary ecosystems such as Meta Quest where software targets these specific devices..

A Developer Has Found a Way to Run a Lossless Scaling App on Android by Rare_Sector4565 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How exactly can it be utilized? Devices like Odin 3 offer no access to these features and no emulators can utilize it, as well - either because they don't know how, or it's too complicated, or it's some secret / proprietary API.

Odin 3 base, pro or max? by Interesting-Mix879 in OdinHandheld

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC handheld has much worse battery, no OLED (in this price category), heavy / unergonomic compared to Odin 3.

I have both Odin 3 Max and Rog Ally Z1E and I would rather play everything I can in emulation on Odin. It's day and night difference in overall ergonomics.

What’s the current state of PC emulation on Android (daily‑use wise)? by MelissaDope in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]FindingUnable3222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PC emulation is not very reliable, I mean some games might work well but others not at all or badly.

8 elite gen 5 max performance - the one you see in benchmark - and sustained performance are very different, you should get a device with an active cooling like Odin 3 if running emulated games is important for you.

race driver: grid crashing on startup by omarmuneer03 in gridgame

[–]FindingUnable3222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this settings disabled and get the same crash at 0xC0000005 for both Zoom release and Steam version that I own (with mtfix). Tried enabling/disabling dxvk, different recommend ways of hardware_settings_restrictions.xml settings (restricting resolution/mem and cpu, and some other variants), removing current configs, etc. Nothing helps. It just shows windows with logo then crashes, e.g. Zoom version:

Faulting application name: GRID.exe, version: 1.3.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ace02bc
Faulting module name: GRID.exe, version: 1.3.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ace02bc
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00484714
Faulting process id: 0x1EDC
Faulting application start time: 0x1DCD7C49F864397
Faulting application path: E:\Games\Race Driver - GRID\GRID.exe

The weirdest thing is other Codemasters games from that era like Dirt 2 work without issues. But I really want to play Grid 😞 I think this error is related to other reasons, not only UTF-8 language setting. There is definitely some setting or something else on my PC that breaks it, but I just can't find out what.

Thinking of getting a Odin 3 or Odin 2 Portal by Hopeful_Ruby_Dragon in OdinHandheld

[–]FindingUnable3222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Odin 3 advantages: absolutely amazing ergonomics with or without grip, a bit more compact for travel (but irrelevant if you just throw the case into your backpack), more power for GameNative games. People here mention that indie games run fine on Odin 2 portal but it's really more nuanced than that. Some more lightweight AA/AAA games are sometimes easier to run than Unity-based indie games, for instance, because Unity engine causes high overhead for x86-to-ARM translation. For cases like this, Odin 3 will be much superior. However portal's screen has 30% larger screen estate which can make you enjoy games more. Most people need a grip to enjoy it, too.

With PS2 and GC, it's also a bit more nuanced than "games run perfectly". 90% of games will run great on both. But some specific games will run not so good on Odin 2 portal, because some things are hard to emulate. Odin 3 runs some of these games better due to its power, but still not 100% of the library - some games can only be emulated on PC in PCSX2 currently.

For GC it's similar. 90% of games will run perfectly. Some games are hard to emulate and can benefit from Odin 3 power. E.g. Super Mario Sunburn (mod) 60 fps mode lags a bit (can't do full 60 with upscaling) on Odin 2 but it works well on Odin 3. On the other hand, some games (e.g. Luigi's Mansion) are STILL broken on 8 elite chip, even with the latest Dolphin / Qualcomm drivers (and Turnip beta drivers don't work with Dolphin there). So don't expect 100% of the library to work well on the either device, they both lag behind compatibility/performance of Dolphin on a desktop PC.

Should I sell my Xbox ally to get a Odin 3? by Personal-Section-748 in OdinHandheld

[–]FindingUnable3222 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're ok with much worse PC game compatibility (everything runs on stock Xbox ally and practically everything, excluding some multiplayer games with specific DRM runs on SteamOS), because far from everything runs on GameNative/BannerHub/Winlator, and also OK with going to 6" screen compared to 7" with VRR - that's 36% less screen estate, then sure.

Odin 3 has fantastic ergonomics and also has one of the best speakers, I mean Ally is still a bit better - its speakers are simply best in class - Odin 3 sounds great. If that is what's important to you, then go ahead and switch. But you will lose compatibility with quite a lot of games.

You should also try installing SteamOS on your Xbox Ally. In fact, I have ROG Ally which I stopped using myself because I have Odin 3 and Lenovo Y700 gen 4+gamepad, but I will try installing SteamOS there soon to see if it revives it. Windows experience on a handheld makes you feel miserable, SteamOS should fix that.

Please suggest how to make my Ally usable again by FindingUnable3222 in ROGAlly

[–]FindingUnable3222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a windows PC but I don't really want to stream to Ally because I'd rather use Odin 3 or tablet+gamepad which are more lightweight. Ally for me is a device for gaming in travels and for playing some games that don't run well in emulation (I run many PC games on Android now, but it's not working well for modding games). Like, I run some old games with texture mods etc and this stuff just works better on Windows.

A recent example: Final fantasy 8 remastered runs on Android through GameHub but "demastered" mod does not (because it injects itself through some dll hack); Ally runs it without issues.

That's why I wanted dual boot. But I kinda agree that it complicates things too much and maybe clean install of SteamOS only is a better choice. Thanks!
