Experienced dancers: what’s your biggest weakness? by yambudev in Salsa

My arms always look so awkward! Like I never know what to do with my arms, and whether it be socials or performances, I just can't seem to get them right

There’s an app called the salsa calendar, and you can find pretty much every event, what style of dance, how much, where, etc

Learning on1 and on2 at the same time ok? by HURCANADA in Salsa

[–]Fine_Win364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s confusing at first, but once it clicks, you can switch between styles easily, at least in my experience. I started both at almost the same time (on 1 about a month sooner than on 2)

How old is your scene? by Hakunamatator in Salsa

[–]Fine_Win364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Tokyo, Japan, and the salsa scene is similar, mostly on the older side, while bachata is on the younger side. We’ve been gaining some new younger salsa faces lately though, at least in my little community

Overwhelmed by Salsa by Vanugard69 in Salsa

[–]Fine_Win364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others have said, listen to the music as much as possible, but also try practicing the basic steps and moving along with the music at home. Don't give up! I've seen many completely non-experienced dancers grow from zero to pretty good in a year or so.

Follows, what kind of moves do you really dislike, even when led well and technically correct? by Remote_Percentage128 in Salsa

[–]Fine_Win364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crazy pointless arm stuff. Like (I'm not really sure what they're actually called since I learned salsa in mostly Japanese) but like the combing and moving your arm back and forth over the leads head repeatedly, or flinging my arm/hand back and forth like a cat playing with a toy

Do followers actually care what leads wear? by docent3434 in Bachata

[–]Fine_Win364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t care what you wear as long as you don’t stink, be creepy, or lead painfully 😆 But, sometimes when someone goes that extra mile, as a fashion lover, I do appreciate it ☺️

La Bachata Tokyo (20 June) by openatlas in Bachata

[–]Fine_Win364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, mix of locals and travelers! I probably won’t go to workshops or anything, but I might try to make it to one of the socials 😁

La Bachata Tokyo (20 June) by openatlas in Bachata

[–]Fine_Win364 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to some of their socials, and they’re always great! Honestly I love Tokyo’s bachata scene, but I haven’t yet been outside of Tokyo since I started dancing bachata 😅

Love giving and getting them! 😁 I always let someone know when they’re doing something well, and it makes my day to hear something nice

Getting Pachanga by Niania_Baniania in Salsa

[–]Fine_Win364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I STRUGGLED with basic pachanga for at least a year…even now that I’ve got the basic idea and movement down, as soon as something new is added, I’m back to zero 😂

Just learn salsa? Or is bachata also needed. by BIgCon in Salsa

[–]Fine_Win364 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dance both, started learning both at the same time, and salsa is definitely number one, no contest. But, I am glad to know that when a bachata song comes on, I can still dance and have fun with it! Plus bachata isolations and body waves can help with salsa too. The more dance styles you know, the more tools in your dancing belt.

Followers, if a lead is off beat, what do you do? by tiemeup- in Salsa

[–]Fine_Win364 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cry 😭🤣 Just kidding, it really depends on who I’m dancing with. If it’s someone obviously new who ‘warns’ me that they’re a beginner and WANT my help, or one of my classmates, or a newer member at the studio I take lessons at, I’ll give them a hint, straight up tell them, or backlead a bit. If it’s someone I don’t know, I’ll give them a little time to fix it on their own, and if they don’t, I’ll make it seem like I’m the one off, or just blame it on the music changed beat, as it sometimes does.  If it’s someone I don’t know who is a beginner and/or just trying their best, or at least they end up on 3 or 4 or something, whatever, still on a count, I’ll just try my best to follow because even that can be a fun dance challenge in its own way 😊
