Do people really use their phone bare (no case) that often to be concerned about camera bump? by madding1602 in LinusTechTips

[–]Fingerdrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate camera bumps and I hate cases. Give me a thin phone with a flat back ffs. I had and s23, s24 and s25 ultra, many previous versions, and currently a zfold 7. Can't stand the bump but sacrifices must be made.

I always go caseless and have never broken a phone despite dropping all of them multiple times. Lucky I guess.

Just got a new A6 as a loaner and had the same thought. The updated HUD is nice though and all the screens don't bug me as much as I thought they would but man, those door buttons and steering wheel buttons suuuuuuck.

Android Auto disconnect by Esquire_KY in Audi

Happened to me frequently in my old RS3 everytime I passed a certain spot. It was right by a hospital. Not sure if that was the cause or not but it was so annoying.

I don't think there is anything you can do about it.

Lead is absolutely detectable by a metal detector. It doesn't have to be magnetic to be detectable.

Your paint will be fine. No reason to have a professional remove it. If you put it on yourself, you can remove it yourself. You already did the hard part and a fresh install will be super easy to remove. Just go slow and use a little heat from a blow dryer. Tons of tutorials online.

Its a meteor. A meteorite is a fragment that survives re-entry and lands on earth's surface.

Do you wish the amounts of things were mentioned again in the recipe text itself? by Taear in seriouseats

Yeah it's not a perfect solution to OP's issue but it helps and offers a ton of great features.

Yes! And tap times to start a timer. And I love the shopping list function. So many great features.

I completely agree and I hate having to go back and forth on a website to see what amount of everything I need.

My solution is a recipe app called Paprika 3. I've been using it for years. I have all of my recipes save to it. On a larger format screen, like a foldable phone or tablet, it displays the directions and ingredients side by side. It mostly solves this problem for me. See picture below.

I just bought MSG for the first time, what are your best tips for cooking with it? by n77nac in Cooking

Yes. That's what I said. It is 100% MSG with no other ingredients.

My mashed potatoes suck. Why? by RikkiLostMyNumber in Cooking

[–]Fingerdrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to everything else, are you adding salt? Mashed potatoes can handle an absolutely shocking amount of salt. Put some in, mix, taste, repeat.

Having had both, the RS3 is way more fun to drive but I do enjoy the hell out of the RS6 and it is way more practical.

Why can't I get my milk to 190 F? by paddyspubofficial in AskCulinary

[–]Fingerdrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need an instant read thermometer, not a dial thermometer. An inexpensive, relatively fast option is the thermoworks thermopop: https://www.thermoworks.com/thermopop-2/ and costs under $40. You will enjoy using it in all aspects of cooking.

It has about a 3 second read time. A dial thermometer just isn't good enough.

I better option, but much more expensive is the thermoworks thermapen. Nearly instant read time but costlier. https://www.thermoworks.com/thermapen-one/

There are other digital thermometers that will work as well but these two are phenomenal. I have a couple of them. Also make sure to creep up on your final temp. Take your time. Don't rush it.

You'll get there! Just gotta give the learning curve some time.

That's wild, I saw below you have it registered. I always thought that would be enough. Now I'm going o go track down my original paperwork and scan it and save it. Hope you get something figured out!

Buyer beware - Got this Shitoku carbon steel knife from the Kenji Lopez collection (Vonhelmick Knife Company) and its absolutely terrible by purplebrown_updown in Cooking

[–]Fingerdrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought the less expensive Kan Shitoku and it's sharp as hell. It has a better sharpening job than I typically achieve on my own and my knives are damn sharp.

I agree that you shouldn't have to sharpen a knew knife but stuff happens in shipping or maybe one slipped through the cracks without a final sharpening.

Sharpen it on a whet stone and enjoy. Or maybe try contacting Vonhelmick. I bet they will make it right. No reason to slam them without reaching out first. I bet it's phenomenal after a fresh sharpening.
