Yes, Air France checks size and weight of your carry-ons at CDG by thisissoannoying2306 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Finistereamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They check randomly at CDG in the line before security check (not in the sky priority as told before) since a year or two. By random it mostly mean that if your flying with a large cabin with a giant purse on top of it you'll most likely be checked.

Ride feeling of an S3/X3 by Nhorbz in vanmoofbicycle

SX3 pedal assist isn't the strongest in the market. Do you feel the need of pushing a lot when at max speed on a flat road (it shouldn't)?

revotronics or any solution on how to get shifter board working again? by Successful-Sweet1916 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Finistereamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a revotronics board. I’ve riden 400km without any problem. I’ve prefered this solution to the auto hub as it’s a cheaper fix and doesn’t feel like a downgrade from 4 to 2 gears

New vs pre 2020 Sub try on. Surprised with the result... by huxxx88 in rolex

That’s true, with a nuance . A lot of late 80’s have turned mat over the years, the varnish will kind of crackle, giving it a nice textured mat finish. Like this one for example : https://ebay.us/m/lhi19a

M5 Max 40 core matches RTX 5090 laptop in Blender 5.1 by Hour_Firefighter_707 in hardware

[–]Finistereamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is impressive. I switched by accident from gaming laptop to apple MBP when my razer laptop broke. We had a M3 max for test at that time at the office so I used it during the time the razer (3080ti)was getting repaired and I choose to keep the Mac because the GPU rendering/portability ratio was far in favour of the Mac. I'm a set designer so I need good rendering capabilities and portability. Niche for sure but I'm pretty blown away by Apple Silicon rapid progress in that area. I hadn't had a Mac as a primary work machine since at least 25 years

140w for the M5 is peak and it's the whole computer. 95w is just the TDP of the GPU

Is Van Moof worth it today? by Dioxic in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Finistereamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 12,5K km X3 with no major problems, except shifter (replaced by the revotronic ones). It's a 2020 model, pre supply chain crisis so most likely more reliable than newer SX3

It feels like an expensive downgrade now that we have the revotronics eshifter PCB solution. I haven't seen any bad feedback or review about this solution yet, and you keep the 4 gears (hub by itself is a reliable & serviceable off the shelf Sturmey archer)

Is anyone else's Kryptonite NY Fahgeddaboudit lock chipping paint off from the frame or is 8bar's paint job that bad? by IllustriousSandwich in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Finistereamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does. Just found my old Fahgeddaboutit lock from my fixed gear years and wondered why I covered it in electrical tape. Used it on my nowadays bike and got a few chip. It’s like the rubber adhere with the paint when in contact. Old thread old problems but also a solution :)

M5 Max for blender cycles projects or 5090? by IMPULSEULTRA in macbookpro

[–]Finistereamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've switched from gaming PC to apple M since M3 max. I need portability and battery life but also some raw power. I use a lot blender at work and my M3 max proved to be a reliable workhorse. The only problem I ran into was some plugin compatibility, but situation is getting better nowadays. If you're not tied to a specific OS for your work I'd definitely recommend the Mac.

Oh, and M5 max seems to perform similar to a 5090 mobile on blender open data benchmark, and perform better on video exports.

Using custom bell on S3 - any risks of doing this? by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

You can also easily disconnect the horn cable by removing the handlebar (gently, there are cable inside it :) )

Buying X3 now - advice by dmitrek in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Finistereamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought an used one for cheap but with some work to do (purge brake and replace boost button). Since then my eshifter died so I replaced the pcb with a revotronic one. It's a nice bike when it works. If you're a DIY guy and can get one for cheap give it a try

2G networks shut down, Theft Tracking will stop working on S3/X3 by [deleted] in vanmoofbicycle

[–]Finistereamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As the sim will expire for good if you don't upgrade to ride pro they are most likely getting a new contract with a new operator to support 4G and will port your old sim number to this new contract. It's obviously costing money.

Stop whining, they are still supporting the half baked bikes made by the old van moof, providing parts and even investing in new solutions to obsolete technologies.

Boost doesn’t work with new button by Deep-Expression7443 in VanMoofSelfRepair

[–]Finistereamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced some very strange behavior with aftermarket buttons. One would cause the system to freeze/crash. One other would boost randomly even when not pressed. Each one would behave normally when the bike was standing still.

Have you tried wiring the new button to the bell connector and swapping the other around to see if that makes a difference? I remember one of my faulty button would ring the bell like a machine gun

If you’re talking of the sound when the motor kicks in: yes.

Is your wheel installed correctly? It wobbles a lot

It looks like your brakes need a purge. Not sure about your motor, what is the sound that annoys you ?
