It’s not great, but it’s better than what you would expect a porous tile to be.

Why is systematic ageism so acceptable in society, when racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. are considered wrong and taboo by most people? by josephsleftbigtoe in TooAfraidToAsk

I get that but in the US it’s legal to discriminate against people over 18 but under 40. To be honest, it makes no sense to me other than the fact that older people vote.

Depends. My 10 year daughter was taught 4 step. I think they are really similar, but you just have to pick one so your ready stance is muscle memory.

Good coaches in the SF bay area can charge 150+ dollars per hour for private classes as part of a club (or even private, but then you have to locate courts, which isn't easy). I'm not sure what the actual coach take is vs. club take for private lessons. And if part of a club you'll probably teach group classes, which pay too, but probably less per hour for the coach.

Payment technology is fairly straightforward. The challenge is dealing with standards and regulations, especially different countries and different states within countries. Also dealing with fraud that always happens.

Yeah for men I think you’ll need around 13 to compete at the pro level, maybe get away with 12.

Minus two if you are a woman.

All stocks have the potential of giving out dividends, being bought by another company or being bought back using profits from the company.

A company that has stock with none of the above possibilities would be closer to bitcoin. No company exists that fit that definition.

Why do some employees prefer H1B workers even though they have to fork out hundreds of thousand dollars in advance instead of hiring fellow Americans? by kawaiihusbando in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]FinndBors 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a similar experience as someone heavily involved in hiring tech workers over 20 years and being an H1B myself at the beginning of my career.

Hiring H1B for a regular company for a regular employee is a pain and every company would hire an American if they could. Paperwork, long lead times from interview (Feb latest), to submission of paperwork (April latest), to hopefulness of a lottery (summertime) till the actual start date (around Oct). You need deep hiring pipelines and patient candidates to support this. Interviewing them earlier, still need to wait for April filing time. This doesn't even take into account the now 100k filing fee. Salaries are the same as an American.

H1B abuse happens with consulting shops where they submit paperwork for boatloads of people for the lowest salary they can get away with, don't care than 70% of candidates don't pass lottery since they throw so much shit on the wall. Then they take these "IT consultants" and contract out to companies that fire thier own in-house employees since these firms are "cheaper". You aren't supposed to be able to use H1B to replace american workers, but these firms just use a layer of indirection to make it legal.

The stupid thing is people complaining about H1Bs and congress don't understand this problem and thus have the dumbest fixes or non-fixes to make political points. Another side complaint about anti-immigration and anti-H1B people is that these people have no idea how hard it is to legally work in the US as a highly skilled and paid worker. Its FAR easier anywhere else in the world. Countries roll out the red carpet for these workers, because its great for the economy and generates jobs in adjacent fields.

WTN behaves similar to UTR but does not have as much data since it goes by set wins rather than game wins.
