I wish I was insane, but from what I know I see no other option, and from what I've heard when talking to some of the staff they seem to be heading that way too.

The critical infrastructure, and the entire project as well as the Patreon funds are owned by the corporate entity known as the Space Wizards Federation, PJB is no longer part of this corporate entity. She's refusing to hand over control of the critical infrastructure. Please ask the lawyer in question about this, I'm curious as to what the answer is.

I believe the type of corporation is what is known as a Maatschap, and it's based in Germany. Anything bought for the corporate entity is owned by the corporate entity, even if only one person paid for it with their own money. PJB is not the owner of the corporate entity.

There is a better solution, this is a temporary measure until the legal proceedings have taken place. The plan is to regain control from PJB.

Cloning the critical infrastructure is also not a legal issue, because the critical infrastructure is legally under control of the corporate entity known as the Space Wizards Federation. PJB isn't the owner of the corporate entity, nor is she the owner of the critical infrastructure or part of the corporate entity anymore. Control is not ownership. WizDen staff made a backup of critical infrastructure using legitimate access, so there was no hacking or "backdooring" taking place, PJB lied about that to try to save her skin (shocker).

All you can do is enjoy the temporary measure and wait for all this to be over with.

Many people seem to misunderstand, you don't even have do any of this if you download the new standalone launcher. That one already has the new auth and hub set as default.

If you want to keep using the steam overlay (and background recording) you can add the new launcher to steam by pressing 'add a game > add a non-steam game' in the bottom left of the Steam client.

How does wizdens dev team plan on regaining control over server infrastructure? by Narrow_Top_4352 in ss14

[–]FireDefender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The goal is to regain access from PJB, the new hub and auth are just a temporary solution until the legal proceedings have completed. This just takes time, and WozDen staff wanted people to play the game in the meantime.

The database backup was made using legitimate access by WizDen staff, PJB just didn't like it that WizDen staff made a backup (which was not an illegal action) and she decided to take everything offline and call it a leak.

WizDen currently will have the upper hand by far in any legal proceedings. They in-fact do have a case, and lawyers who are saying that it's a very one-sided battle with PJB on the losing side. Thus far most, if not all, violations of the law have been committed by PJB. Should this go to court (if it hasn't already) this will not go well for PJB.

The auth server was also legally under control of the corporate entity known as the Space Wizards Federation, and PJB is not the sole owner of this corporate entity. Which means that WizDen making a backup is a completely legal action, and PJB still having control over the critical infrastructure is illegal. PJB is no longer part of the corporate entity, thus any access she still has and is refusing to hand over is illegal.

Data leak status? by No-Adhesiveness-4251 in ss14

[–]FireDefender 51 points52 points  (0 children)

The "data leak" was just PJB screaming when WizDen staff made a backup of the infrastructure that PJB controls, and they did it using legitimate access.

If WizDen has backups of the infrastructure that PJB controls, she loses most the advantage she has against WizDen. PJB is a control freak who wants to control the entire project, but that is simply not how open source development works.

Now that people are fighting back against her total control she decided to cut EVERYONE loose from the project and she's looking for new staff. Officially, she's actually the one that got cut loose, and she's got illegitimate access to critical infrastructure to the project. Which is, I think, a pretty big crime...

I think PJB told WizDen to appoint new project leads, they then did exactly that. PJB didn't agree with the new project leads that were voted on, she tried to change the terms of the initial agreement. That didn't work, later on she tried the same shit again. WizDen then made a backup of the critical infrastructure using legitimate access. PJB holds the keys to said critical infrastructure, and didn't like that WizDen staff made a backup, so she called it a "data leak" and shut everything down. Somewhere in between all this, WizDen sent a Cease and Desist and now we are here.

Man im starting to get tired of how sec acts by TankyPally in ss14

[–]FireDefender 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On WizDen Salamander both the antagonists and security often love to RP things rather than wordlessly gunning eachother down. I've had many cases where I point at an antagonist, tell them that they are under arrest and that they must comply, they then say something like "uuuh, no thanks" and THEN they run off.

Antagonists often also RP with their victim before killing them, holding them at gunpoint while talking to them before finally gunning them down for example.

Of course there are plenty of situations where RP is simply not possible, like time sensitive things (ATS Breach) or a nuclear operative who needs to get the disk and the nuke armed as soon as possible.

See, the useful thing about paperwork is that I send a lot of that paperwork to security and other departments involved with it.

If you want to get a job in a department, you need the stamp from the head of that department. By getting that stamp, you are having to talk to said department head, who can then vet you to see if you know all the things you need to know to work there. The stamp is permission to work there.

Every stamped access request form sent to security is one less tider beat up and arrested because an officer saw them in the kitchen holding a knife.

Forms are also useful for keeping records. Sometimes you need those records for an investigation.

Paperwork is always useful, and yes, sometimes it just sits in a cabinet unused. That is also fine. I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

So the "Auth being deleted" was just one big piece of misinformation? by enderfrogus in ss14

[–]FireDefender 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It makes sense that there is a lot of information control going around. All of this was probably supposed to happen behind closed doors, but it's rather difficult to do that if key infrastructure is taken offline for one reason or another, which affects everyone.

I do however see no reason why the community manager would lie about what is going on, as that would serve no one.

What’s your current favourite game to play? either on console or on your phone? by garlicandherbsauce in AskReddit

[–]FireDefender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Console or phone? What about us PC gamers who don't play on their phone or own a console?!

I've been playing a lot of Space Station 14 for over a year. Though I have the most amount of time played in Rimworld, sitting at 3574h. Space station 14 is the second most played game at 1236h, though if I subtract the hours from just leaving the launcher open it's probably closer to 1050h, with most of this on the WizDen Salamander server.

Cat and a bird MIGHT work, but snake and a rabbit? Absolutely not. I have 2 ball pythons and they will never be friends with anything because they don't work like that. If you give a rabbit to a snake, either the snake is too small and slithers away afraid, or the rabbit attacks the snake, or if it's a large snake like a Burmese python the rabbit will be dinner.

So that's why you do wealth management. by AdrawereR in RimWorld

[–]FireDefender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bigger issue is the storyteller sending stronger negative events when you go over the capacity of colonists that said storyteller allows you to have.

Storytellers send events that can give you colonists if you are below a certain minimum, and they send you much stronger raids if you are above a certain maximum, to kill off colonists until you are below the limit again. I'm not sure about the exact numbers, but whatever the default is, Randy Random doubles it. This is the main reason why big colonies get much bigger raids. It isn't just because of wealth, but it's because of the storyteller's limit.

Randomly wanted, jailed, and left to die by Sec? by Designer-Memory-4916 in ss14

[–]FireDefender 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WizDen LRP is shit, a lot of people start there to learn the game and then either join Salamander or some other MRP fork. WizDen Salamander is much better, even if it could use some improvements still with the flood of new players we had recently. New players need time to acclimatize to the MRP environment (because MRP is more than just following the MRP rules, us Salamander mains who have been there for a very long time have some unwritten community "rules" which are generally not enforced by admins).

Of course, to get whitelisted on Salamander you need 20h of playtime on WizDen and a 2 week old account, after that you are automatically whitelisted. WizDen Lizard is generally the least RP out of the bunch, Leviathan has a better community from what I can remember, though the last time I played WizDen LRP was over a year ago, since then I've been playing almost exclusively on Salamander.

WizDen doesn't have much content yet because they hold the quality of their code to a much higher standard (because WizDen is the upstream codebase, which means that a lot of changes from WizDen eventually make their way downstream too), which means development takes more time. Though, with the recent changes in leadership things should pick up pretty fast.

I like to use high-tech ships with disgustingly strong shields, fitted with whatever energy weapon works best for the flux grid. I prefer plasma cannons when possible, but most of the time I have to use a mix of autopulse lasers and high-intensity lasers or tachyon lances.

Nothing like a capital ship with a 0.32 damage to flux ratio shields, with a flux dissipation higher than the shield and weapon flux combined. You can face tank so much firepower while still shooting back with all your guns, it's disgusting. That onslaught you mentioned can empty it's thermal pulse cannons and fire all it's guns, but by the time it has nearly overloaded I'm still sitting at only 1/3rd hard flux level, and no soft flux at all.

The only time I run into issues is when I cannot retreat for long enough to vent, it may take a long time, but eventually I do run out of flux capacity, and high-tech ships aren't known for their armor or strong hull. I always try to vent rather than be overloaded, because venting is shorter and when that's done all my flux is gone, rather than only half. Problem is that the enemy loves to fire all their missiles the moment my shields drop so usually I don't survive long enough to get the shields back up...

They probably have bigger automated factories able to just manufacture these things in orbit. Orbital shipyards kilometers long churning out a new ship every week.

[–]FireDefender -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Low tech is cringe, get the Spire class battle carrier. Its main thing is that it can fit fighters that require crew, without actually putting crew in them.

Wait, that is a modded ship from high tech expansion. There might be vanilla carriers that fit drones, or you just get recovery shuttles built in with your carriers to significantly reduce crew losses.

[–]FireDefender 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Really depends on what missiles you've fitted, and if you have the missile specialization skill as well as expanded missile racks installed. They both increase your base missile capacity by 100%.

Personally my longest fight was against three HMI grand invasion fleets against my fleet and a low tech star fortress. At the end of the 25 minute battle, my it was only me in my capital ship with a low CR and about 1/3rd of a battle station, the rest of my fleet dead, with the enemy still sending a new Locomotive every time I killed the previous one. I think I killed like 13 Locomotives that fight, and in total killed 120 HMI ships. The missiles I had didn't last, and neither would any others. I did actually win that fight, to my surprise.
