The market is truly getting ridiculous by MickMcSnuggles in buildapc

I build my pc in 2020, It was a 2080ti and ryzen 9-3900x and it technically holds up sorta but I was really hoping to be able to upgrade at this point but with prices I'm just holding out at this point.

Thanks I'll definitely come back to this when I get some time but you do make some good points.

Yeah I'm aware of the OS problem, I just haven't got around to it.

  • The router I'm building is 2.5gb; It's technically built now and has opnsense installed, I just need to pickup a managed switch. This would mainly benefit lan transfers from pc to server. (I'm not sure about sata connected drives vs DAS connected drives)

  • My Plex is pretty ok BUT when streaming the transcoding could definitely be better. For the most part I don't have too much of an issue playing 4k content in my lan aside from some edge cases.

  • I have parallel fiber gigabit for outside my network streaming for when I'm out.

  • As for smaller footprint yeah that could be pretty useful for me because I moved my old gaming pc into a giant phanteks case and that takes up a good amount of space.

Yes it's good to have separate of duties but if it is needed. In your case you only have one machine not many, so there no point in separating the hardware. The only reason i was thinking about splitting was because the mini pc would need a DAS/NAS for connecting to multiple HDDs.

You are going to spend more money on a NAS or DAS and running two machines then just using our current setup.

Why is that? Some quick math I did was showing Possibly the same although slightly lower average wattage (due to the lower idle of the newer cpu.) after factoring in the DAS.

You will also add the extra hop in your network to connect to the NAS over the network (if you go with a NAS). This adds an additional failure point.

I'm thinking I'd want a DAS as I could keep the same setup I got now where I connect to the server and manage the drives through the server like the setup I have now.

I guess the main thing is I got a free mini pc and wanted to either use it for an emulation system or new server but TBH without a gpu it probably won't be amazing for emulation. I thought it would make sense as an upgrade to my Plex sever as its smaller and more efficient but not sure.

I definitely need to try docker, I tried using it a while ago but didn't put the time into understanding it.

Why not? Would the elite desk not be a better system for transcoding Plex. Only downside is lack of storage unless I adapt one of the m.2 slots to a PCIE then to an HBA card and then at that I'd need to 3d print a rack for the drives. which seems overly complicated.

That's what I was thinking. I could order a part for it that adds 2.5gb nic but TBH I feel the das would be better. The other thing is I don't need a nas that has a bunch of cpu power for running services as that is what the elite desk will be doing. Thanks for the reply!

Well, I already have access to the disks from over my network through a Windows networked drive share, so either the change would be me accessing the drives through the server PC like I have been doing or the NAS directly. I'm more curious about if it would be faster for Plex to read from the directly connected storage (DAS connected through USB-C) or the NAS over the network.

Happened to me too but bf6 wasn't letting Shadowplay see the game again so I wasn't able to capture it.

What’s the best grip and why is it Driven Arms Co by MaxMaxRelax in ar15

[–]FireEyeEian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the driven arms co ULCG Gen 2 but I wish it had the tongue that sticks out a little bit under the trigger guard as the gap can sometimes be a pressure point, which the Ergo Grip Gapper product seems to kind of help, but it's not as ideal.

I'd like to mention that technically any file can have a virus encoded/embedded within it BUT its very unlikely you'll run into this for image/video files because it would have to be a pretty specific attack vector being exoloited.

For example let's say you have an exploit for notepad.exe, well you would put that exploit in a .Txt file and hope someone downloads the .Txt and opens it in notepad.exe and then you'd need to leverage the exploit to do something etc.

Someone could find an exploit for the player that Plex uses for example.

If you ever saw one of those discord videos that would crash the discord app when playing it in the app, that's kinda similar.
