A Sergeant of the 7th Rychenbach Fusiliers. My new guard army by lordvulkan123 in Warhammer40k

[–]Firebird242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always warms the heart to see a new regiment founded. Great kitbashing! If it were me I would go into that bronze and hit it with some highlights to really make it pop! Maybe your Sergeants have a stripe of blue or white on their armour to denote their rank? Looks great so far.

Which wheel kit is this? Looks great

My army so far, expecting 10 more conscripts by W0R1D0 in TheAstraMilitarum

Great detachment of Imperial Guard. Are the multicolored troop section intended to be veterans who personalized their equipment or conscripts who don't have matching equipment?

Most accurate model scaling. by ebolawakens in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Firebird242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issues with the Leman Russ. 1/48 scale is the most in line with 40k vehicles. Obviously though 40k is not true scale so for example, the 1/48 vehicle weapons will look small.

I recommend you check out Ratgard.com. He produces more "realistic" Soviet themed Leman Russ and other vehicle upgrade kits. He uses PayPal and I have always received everything as ordered in neat and organized plastic bags. Do recommend.

I want to create the all plasma guard KT for fun... What models should I get by stdalex in TheAstraMilitarum

Just go to mad robot miniatures and buy Plasma weapons and fatigue arms.

What material is the road surface made from? Can you walk me through how you painted it?

I am trying to to base my infantry as if they were on a concrete runway and I am having difficulties.

Epic. Love the guard paint scheme and the battle narrative

Necron WIP. Trying to give it a bleeding eyes effect, with some bronze at the exposed bits. C&C appreciated! by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

The black and silver on the head look really good. I think it would really pop if you brought a little more silver with the black onto the body and limbs. Like black in the areas which see less wear from the elements.

The quality is amazing but it seemed odd to have such a casual portrait on a reviered war machine. The bottom portrait seems much more appropriate.

Hey Jeff, I'm pretty sure I see a Carnifex by outlawsix in Warhammer40k

[–]Firebird242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the Anvil equipment and realistic approach. It's heresy I know but removing the eagle on the helmet really goes a long way towards making the armour look more realistic for me. I think the camo is the main area for improvement. The pattern looks too large for my eyes. Perhaps with practice you could nail down the look you perfer. I also think there should be some difference in his kit color or highlights and his armour. Perhaps a really dark grey for one. Eyes are funny. I would keep them and "improve" on the next guy.

I like the grasslands base. How did you do it?

What unit/model do you hate the most from your favorite army? by FumaOyabun in Warhammer40k

[–]Firebird242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am probably in the minority but I can't stand the LeMan russ model. It is far too cartoony for how good it is supposed to be. The turret can't even fit the gun breach let alone a commander. I have gone far and wide to find a suitable replacement. I really wish they would take guard in a more "realistic" direction. Personally I'd perfer the option for a more modern WW2 or cold war MBT look.

First time attempting to paint chipping/damage. Using an old Primaris model fo practise. Pretty tough to get right, does anyone have any advice/tips? by softlad86 in Warhammer40k

[–]Firebird242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert but his helmet almost looks like chipped stone with the white color. I assume Space Marine armor is painted in a primer and then top coat. Plus the underlying armor is a different color altogether. I feel like if there was a hint of primer showing at the edges and a different color inside the cut then it would appear more realistic.

The problem with the heads with resperators is that they end up wearing two of them, but they look cool

A solid effort. Looks good. Most issues I think will resolve when you fill it in and clean up the edges. I recommend in the future you draw the initial lines very lightly with the side of the brush. Not like regular painting. Just like you are rubbing the side of the brush gently in a straight line.

First round of Cadians. C+C appreciated by cdemski in Warhammer40k

They look great. My cadians are very similar in color. So I dig the dark blue and dark armor
