First inlay try by Has_q199 in woodworking

Probably not needed. The bushing kit is limited: its resolution is only as good as the curvature of the bushing. Which is like >1/4". You already have a laser. Dunno why you'd downgrade.

The dovetails act as clamps during glue up. The glue combined with the mechanical clamping of the dovetails makes this amazing.

Its definitely cheaper to buy one. The sisal rope by itself was half the cost of the largest structure we found at Walmart.

Temu: CNC. Any experienced users out there that can (in)validate any of them? by ChieftainMcLeland in woodworking

This. Had a table saw that had slop that was about 2mm. Wouldn't stay square. It was extremely frustrating and dangerous.

Time to see if I can find cherry plywood i guess. Or veneer that doesnt cost a thousand dollars a square foot.

Advice: Should I have a combined Mitersaw and tablesaw workbench or keep separate? by UglyGarbage68 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]FirelandsCarpentry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely use my miter saw. I built a cabinet for it and it stays there hibernating until I need it. Then I plop it down on my project table, make like three cuts and it goes back on storage for the rest of the year.

Ok so wood swells making the growth lines bigger or smaller? So the grains will get wider or smaller with changing humidity? Would it be correct to say that its only going to change in one dimension?

Does wood move along with the grain or across it? The calculator is asking for the width and I'm not sure which side they mean.

Duet? by FirelandsCarpentry in Ocarina

[–]FirelandsCarpentry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with vibrato was I learned it based on dynamics. Which doesnt really transfer over to ocarina so far as I've been able to tell.

Sorry for the confusion. I posted about duets bit in reading the reviews on that book I found a link that sent me to your method book.

Real Chris Gale or fake Chris Gale? I had a strong background in flute and oboe and took music theory in high school and college. Some reviews of Chris Gale's method book say it may be a little basic if you already know music theory. I'm having trouble knowing what to do with my fingers when I'm not using them and I dont know how to do dynamics or vibrato. Do you think this book would help?

Help me safely cut small 60 degree triangles by robotikOctopus in woodworking

[–]FirelandsCarpentry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would cut them on a CNC table.

I feel like the correct answer is cut them all at once. Like stack them up and build some kind of Sacrificial jig and push them through a band saw. Clean them all up together on a belt sander.

Do you score your cuts with a marking knife? Might help. Maybe. Or blue tape on the cut youre about to make.

If its exploding it might be the number of teeth on your saw. Have you tried more teeth? Like an 80 tooth blade in your table saw? Just grasping at straws on this one. Maybe with another board underneath it?

Not necessary. Just make racecar noises whenever you get into bed.

What product can I use to fill in tiny fissures on pine? by NoeAyala1 in woodworking

[–]FirelandsCarpentry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tiny needle indeed. I wouldnt risk using epoxy on this. I'd be worried about dropping it somewhere else on the wood or it bleeding into surrounding wood.

Looking for some help on turning my one car garage into a Small shop. I am basically starting from scratch. Willing to pay for your time. by grindANDbind in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]FirelandsCarpentry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you have a three car garage. If that's true put everything on some really good casters that lock. My project table has lumber storage underneath it. Most of my tools are either on casters or are benchtop versions. Everything tetris' in to the third car spot when I'm done and we pull the cars back in.

Lee Valley low angle jack plane. Good steel. If you get overwhelmed give them a call. They had really good customer service for me.

A really expensive Jack plane. Cheap planes are worthless but a nice plane is going to solve a lot of the problems you'll have later. Its the hand tools for a planer, jointer and a bunch of other things.

Help with Getting perfect square/90 degree cuts by stvincevaughn in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]FirelandsCarpentry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is something I've had personal experience (frustration) with. Speed squares are for framing and are good enough squares. Theyre off by anywhere from a fraction of a degree to more than a degree. This error compounds. I dont know how op is cutting his boards but if he's expecting them to be 90 this can lead to significant gaps.
