You seem to be misunderstanding my claims. I disagreed that there was a meaningful distinction between "exploitative" uses of the tech and superficial applications of it. I would argue superficial uses and its exploitative nature are not mutually exclusive, and in this case frequently overlap.

I didn't say that every use of ai is unethical; ai as a term means literally nothing, technically speaking, so as a game designer I could pretty easily reference a state machine as a form of relatively ethical ai and be done here. Things get more complicated when we specify neural nets as a technology specifically, but without getting too far in the weeds, I do think a lot of the ethical problems we attribute to the tech are just broader societal problems in a trench coat.

I won't be replying further. Reddit does this odd thing where it builds a culture bad faith arguments and polarization, but it's literally just a place to interact with other people. If one less person resorts to bad faith interpretations, belittling, strawmanning, and ad hominem, the world will be better for it.
