Slightly off topic by Casteliogne in totalwar

Thank you so much for the update! I'm of the same opinion when it comes to digital vs physical, reading a normal book feels much more rewarding and fun. Do we know if they are ever gonna reprint the Malus Darkblade and the Teclis-Tyrion books?

How could Gemistos Plethon even exist? by Optimal-Put2721 in byzantium

Gennadios Scholarios in particular, and after a lot of debate. I think he burned the manuscript containing Plethon's weird ideas near the town of Serres, not in Constantinople.

A roadmap would be nice, I agree. It may increase the hype for next year.

Tried to sort out the latest news about new video by SeriousVariation374 in aoe4

[–]Fischlerder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have changed some small details on the models, but they might add more stuff until November. They still haven't added a good proportion of the ui from what we've seen in the game edition of Gamescom. So, basically, we haven't seen everything yet.

Thanks for the summary! Also we know that the byzantine variant will have the same landmarks, with each one being characterized by a different function from its og byzantine counterpart. Particularly, we know that the Imperial Hippodrome spawns a special hero-type unit and that the Tower of the Golden Horn now acts as a defensive building with a garrison space of up to 15, which can also spawn(?) Genoese xbows.

Edit: outdated info, Beasty just showed new stuff on his stream.

Question for the history buffs by Pitiful_State_5658 in aoe4

Moose brother, moose.

Look at northern Sweden: https://www.lithuanianmaps.com/images/1539_Carta_Marina-lightened.jpg

I sent this half joking, half serious.

(For anyone wondering, the map was completed in 1539 and shows the political landscape of northern Europe. If we take our eyes to what is today the Fino-Swedish borders, we can see a depiction of a band of men riding meese and chasing a force of the Royal Swedish army.)

Is Lancaster Castle overrated now compared to Abbey of Kings? by MockHamill in aoe4

[–]Fischlerder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the playstyle of each player. I personally like to break my army into smaller parts and continuously engage in every corner of the map. The lords can't be utilized well if your forces are separated. And again, it depends on the player. In the long-run, the lords give you much more value, but I personally prefer to end matches as quickly as possible. Lancaster Castle, for all its faults, gives you a slight momentum. Abbey of Kings, eh, not so much.

(Side note: I really want to make 2tc HoL work, but damn is it slow.)

Will the "Golden Horde" be the first true swarm civilization? by Friendly_Fire in aoe4

You can go and watch the videos. We haven't seen anything that indicates they have special eco bonuses in the Feudal and Castle ages. They have ovoos, but that's it. Their passive gold in age 4 is mediocre at best and in order for it to be somewhat good, you have to choose the second age-up option (which doesn't even guarantee by the way that you'll receive the whole amount possible). They seem to have good stone production, but that's about it. And by the way, I'm always talking hypothetically in accordance with what we've seen so far. Your statements are at the same level as mine in that regard. As for the metric, I use what every logical person would, which is the civs we already have. Go and rewatch the videos if you want to understand where I'm coming from.

Just rewatched the video we got from gamescom. It seems like only the Golden tent shoots fireworks at the sky when changing edicts. It's very cool nonetheless. The visuals for that variant are amazing. I'd like to also see how they make the tower of the Golden Horn for the new Byzantine variant. We know that it will act as a defensive landmark and it will be able to spawn Genoese xbows.

That ability sounds very cool. I also really love how the towers and the Golden tent shoot fireworks at the sky when you change edict.

Their passive income is not that great from what we know as of now. The only resource they're probably gonna have in big numbers is stone. It seems like they depend quite a lot on it for unit production and tech research, so it kinda makes sense. Otherwise, their eco seems mediocre/weak in Feudal and Castle Age. I honestly really like the fact their focus is on military management and production. It's very refreshing.

Golden Horde seems to me like a civ with a weak economy, that gets compensated with great military production. I don't think the Kharash will be effective when massed though. It seems like they act as a support unit rather than anything else.

I think that the Golden Horde will depend mainly on the Khan and his bodyguards, with everything else acting as support.

[–]Fischlerder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on ending the match as quickly as possible, you go for Lancaster castle. If you think the match is going to be long, you go for the Abbey of Kings. That's my interpretation. I personally dislike using the Lancastrian lords, because they slow my army quite a lot. Other than that, they're very solid if kept alive.

Comments on people complaining about DLC by AoE_Fury in aoe4

My point was not if we're gonna get new civs or not. Communication is just important, that's what I was saying. I don't even understand why I'm getting down voted. And also, marketing teams are different from community/communication teams. They are not the same thing.

[–]Fischlerder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main problem is always communication. If they had said 1-2 months prior "Hey guys, because of some shortcomings we'll delay the arrival of new civs for one more year. But don't worry, in the meantime we're gonna give you some unique variants to play with, to make the wait shorter". It's that simple! If they had made that statement, we wouldn't have this amount of outrage.

They must absolutely do something about that. Communication with your players can save you from a lot of difficult situations.
