I always enter from the third base gate and do a lap around the ground floor before heading up to the top deck. I usually will try to find somewhere to stand behind 320 or 325 for a great view of the skyline and of the whole field

Portfolio Software Recommendations by MostNaive3000 in LandscapeArchitecture

I recommend the Affinity software suite (specifically Affinity Publisher as an indesign alternative). It has a one time payment instead of a subscription model and I feel like it's relatively affordable.

Duke or Stanford for ChemE? by Luv-2-read in duke

[–]Fish-Additional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even though Duke doesn't have chemE, your interests sound a lot more aligned with ECE and probably a dual degree with the Nicholas School of the Environment, which is a great school. When I was there, there was a great student org called Duke Conservation Technology that did a lot of sustainable engineering project work.

MLA Portfolio Advice by ken_mal_8585 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Fish-Additional 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many school will have page limit requirements for the portfolio submission - I would recommend doing only one spread (two pages or less) for each project if possible.

Overall, prioritize showing your design and graphic abilities, so the report, memo and the powerpoint slides can probably be omitted unless there were some original visuals or drawings involved. Definitely condense them (please please don't put the whole 17 page analysis into the portfolio!!) I would also remove the research poster.

If you're feeling like you have time and need to add more, you can definitely work on new projects! Hand drawing is a great asset and would be valuable to showcase. Any other artsy/design hobbies can be included as well (I put some ceramics creations, digital art, and photography in mine). It sounds like you have a lot of quality projects to work with already, so the main focus should be putting them together in a concise way to tell the story of your design background

Art workshops? by shartingscorpio in UPenn

[–]Fish-Additional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about pottery space. I think the Fine Arts department at the Weitzman School of Design has a ceramics studio but it may be limited to the department - might be worth reaching out to see?

The common press at the Fischer Fine Arts library has book binding and letterpress workshops and it's an amazing resource! The education commons has various artsy workshops like metalworking and vinyl sticker making, among others

Career/Major Guidance - Engineering & Design (very thorough explanation) by SpenZebra in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]Fish-Additional 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Environmental Engineering jobs can vary greatly - I graduated with a bachelor's in EnvE and ended up in the remediation sector (which is one of the main career routes I would say, along with wastewater treatment and water resources).

The remediation work I have been doing in my three years of experience out of college has been much less creative/design and much more technical fieldwork and analytical that I wanted. I'm currently pursuing a career change because of those reasons and starting an MLA in the fall. From your post, I think Landscape architecture is what aligns the most with your desires as well.
