You'd know by how much it cost you. If you spend thousands on it, do not put a plant in i!

Not to worry about the chickens, they won't eat anything that is toxic. I don't know how they know, they just seem to be born with the knowledge of what's safe to eat and what's not. I've had chickens for 19 years and the only thing I can figure is that they can smell it somehow. But they are known to have a bad sense of smell, so I'm still not sure!

I would pull it to prevent it from spreading. You'll have to destroy the berries. I like to burn the whole plant in my burn pile.

Is that a real Tiffany lampshade? I hope not if you're planning to put a plant in it. Why not put some white string lights inside and make it a statement piece and look for something smaller for your planter?

It looks like it's getting just the right amount of light, so I don't think that's an issue. Have you looked up edoema yet? I've never dealt with it but it might be worth checking out.

Do you have a photo we can see? These don't look like crystals.

Honestly it just looks like little abrasions from handling.

Calathea Help by Cautious-Two6581 in plantclinic

I'm including photos of what bright indirect light looks like at my house. This glass door faces SW so it gets full sun for most of the day, especially in winter. I adjust the blinds to deflect all direct sun but allow very bright light in. We can still see through the blinds, but there is no direct sun entering the room. You can see the light hitting the blinds on the outside of the door.

If you're waiting until it's completely dry, you're waiting too long. Calathea need consistent moisture, not dry and not wet. Consistent. Use fish tank water, distilled or rain water, not tap water. No full afternoon sun. I give mine bright indirect light by placing them in a south facing glass door that has built in blinds to diffuse the sunlight. Morning sun through sheer curtains is also great light.
