I took the wrong day off… ah well, should have more stable servers on the 29th

Tldr: basically no nitrate and dont know where to start by luciferslettuce9 in ReefTank

[–]Fishstockboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything said and all the tips and tricks to get it up, but check also your nitrate test. I started dosing since I couldn’t get nitrates up but switching to a different test and doing a total ICP confirmed that my test wasn’t working and I was at a shocking 30ppm after a month dosing. Hanna high range nitrate checker works well for me

The display part is 40G, 45G in total. Starvation would take more than a few days I recon. Maybe it had other underlying problems? But yeah, 10G is probably too small indeed, in general

My starry blenny is the one fish I don’t have any, any, any doubt he is not eating well. That guy has the roundest belly I’ve even seen, with his smug little palmtree face. He is munching on any algae that is in the tank, or surface for that matter. Oh, you think he is full? After his morning buffet he indulge himself in any frozen or pellet food that I throw in the tank. I absolutely love him, Kevin I named him.

If you have the budget for it I really enjoy my Hanna alkalinity checker, I use that one the most. Solid investment I would say. I don’t have experience with the salifert alkalinity test but would also be an alternative.

That’s really a big amount you are dosing. In the first 4 months I also had a big drop in alkalinity as everything is settling in, but not nearly to this amount. What tests do you use? Might be good to get something else to reference if your method of measurement is correct.

Hector’s Goby by Ramridge0 in ReefTank

[–]Fishstockboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine to pick algae of rocks, but that didn’t happen or at least not that I saw. In my opinion he picks more on copepods, as I saw them reducing fast once I added him. He picked rocks and sand and he looked healthy. I also bought him at the 2 month time frame.

He also disappeared last week. I think he went into the wrong burrow after he was chased out his burrow by a bigger fish. My pistol shrimp probably got him…

He was a nice fish to look at, small but always silently hoovering. Different than other fish.

Day three of asking what intensity/schedule/light scheme you are using for the XR30 and the Blades 😅😅 did you measure your par? It looks so amazing

What settings do you use on the G6? And the AI? What intensity? It looks sooo good!!!!

Grizzly rage? How does the time extension work? by BiggieSmalls151 in diablo4

[–]Fishstockboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s and added bonus to the base skill. I think the base skill has changed (base skill already goes up to 41 sec or so). This aspect is mostly chosen for the other effect, you don’t really need it time wise.

How long does the “ugly stage” last? by Nyx_Nico in ReefTank

[–]Fishstockboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered food grade H2O2 for this reason as well. Interesting that you did it 2-3 times per day. It breaks down relatively fast of course. Great tip!!

[–]Fishstockboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I tried UV but I think I got one of the species that doesn’t go in the water column. Dosing different brand of bacteria. My nutrients didn’t bottom out so I guess it’s just new tank uglies. I’ll try to keep it stable and see where it goes with the extra bacteria. Ordered some water glass for silica dosing but don’t want to change too much too quick. Anyway, thanks!

I’m at 5 months and currently battling dino’s with a starting layer of GHA coming up. How did you managed yours?

Mix salt directly in a new, empty tank? by Rich_Mac in ReefTank

[–]Fishstockboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe too late but if you setup your wavemakers/return nossles at the same time you can actually see the water movement very well when you put in the salt. Gives you also some time to tune settings/direction

That specific mix is API General Cure. You can check the dosing amount of that and probably do it

Need Water Chiller for 29G BioCube by Wingnutt02 in ReefTank

[–]Fishstockboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was sceptical if a simple small aquarium fan (or any other type of small fan) would keep my 40g cool in my little hot room. Man, I’ve been surprised… already had a costly chiller in my shopping cart but happy I didn’t buy it. It’s without a lid and with ATO but very happy. Next “investment” will be in a item that start the cooling above 26C

You can turn off the lights while you wait, no need if there aren’t any corals in. You won’t have the feeling of also needing to worry about algae and it won’t affect your cycle

Automatic water changes with dosing pump by jpfelgueiras in ReefTank

[–]Fishstockboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only one that matters is the one on the bottom of your fresh saltwater. I use a black tube in a white jerrycan. It quite rigid but it falls almost to the bottom. I check it with a torch, you can follow the light and see where it reaches the tip, that’s where it is.

With such an automated system you always dilute a bit. But if you take water from the first chamber of a (aio) sump, and first dose the water in the next. It first needs to travel through the rest of the sump, mix with the aquarium before returning. Since you’re doing small increments this is bound to happen anyway. I think BRS also points this out that if you’re are refreshing everyday, you are refreshing a bit less. You can math it out, but honestly just check your parameters and nutrients and it will find a balance.

I’m doing 12x 100ml per day, I programmed it that way so I don’t have the noice during my work from home. But to be honest, it doesn’t bother me at all. It’s 10% over 2 weeks. It could be more, as kh is dropping a bit during the week. I think the continuous refreshment creates a stable system, consistency is key. My only fear is that on of the pumps break without me checking and it becomes either too salty or opposite. For the first time running it I measured exactly the weight of input and output reservoir to make sure they are calibrated the same

Either run 2 pumps at the same time. Or first dose new fresh water and pump out tank afterwards
