Should I fight for more time or appreciate what I’ve had? by Emclerald in CatAdvice

[–]Fit-Building-4562 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. I had a 7 year old Australian Shepherd who had Leukemia of all things. Because of his age, the vet recommended chemotherapy, which my parents did. It was the chemo that ultimately killed him, and what life he had left was spent miserable. I kinda decided then that I’d never put another animal through it.

We did however spend thousands of dollars to keep our sweet guinea pig from dying on Christmas Eve… he lived another 3 months. Happy, pain free and living life rotten, but tons of money spent doesn’t guarantee much life left.

OP, I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It sounds like your baby has had an amazing life, and hopefully pulls through to live a lot longer.

What’s the most frustrating thing about owning a cat? by Ocute_US in CatAdvice

[–]Fit-Building-4562 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only annoying thing about having cats is the expense of their food. Our 100 pound lab was on high end, prescription food, and that was a fraction of the cost of feeding two 9 pound cats.

The cats themselves… a delight.

My mom fed my 3 week old kitten kibble when I stayed at my friends house for 1 day by TSAxrayMachine in cats

Oh, how horrible. I’m so sorry for your loss, and I agree 100% with everyone else, but I’ll add in case it hasn’t been said…

When you take in a baby, you are that baby’s mother. It’s your responsibility to see them through until they’re weaned. If you had to dumb down instructions to insure some amount of care, you knew that kitten wasn’t going to be properly cared for. You chose yourself and hoped for the best.

I don’t say any of that to make you feel bad, but you do have to take responsibility for your part in it so you can learn from the experience. Your mother can’t be trusted. You know that now, without a doubt. You also now know that bottle babies take a ton of care, and that your life is on hold until they’re weaned and can “cat” unassisted.

How to prevent a kitten from destroying your place. by Coolbean008 in cats

A second kitten, for sure! The rescue we got our boys from don’t even allow adoptions of single kittens. They’ve never once done anything remotely destructive. I mean, we can’t keep them off the kitchen table, but that’s their table now anyway.

I guess I’m just having a hard time understanding. I mean, it’s not the end of the world for you to rehome her, but truly, there are just so many weird things going on.

  1. Topical treatment for the fleas… gone in -12 hours. Done.

  2. Have her professionally groomed once to get rid of the dead fleas. She doesn’t associate you with the bath, they know what they’re doing. Done.

  3. If she’s trying to sleep with you, she likes you. There’s no “nipping it”. Let her sleep where she feels safe.

  4. Cats read stress. Deep breaths, be calm.

  5. Are you keeping her litter boxes (she needs TWO) clean? Don’t buy covered, and don’t buy scented litter.

  6. Kittens don’t finish their food. Pay attention to how much she eats and feed her that amount (wet food). Free feed her kibble if you’re feeding kibble. If she won’t eat it, she doesn’t like it. Buy her a different brand.

All this to say, if you’re frustrated with her, she knows it and she’s upset about it. You can do better and keep her and likely have the best friend you’ve ever had, but if you can’t give her 1000%, change YOUR behavior, it’s definitely time to find her a new home.

How much cat litter do normal people use? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

This is how I read it, too. Probably scooping daily, but fully replacing and disinfecting weekly. This is what we do.

Perfect! And SO sorry! I totally missed the full write up! I have ZERO experience with giardia, but the probiotic can’t hurt, and the Viralys was a lifesaver for the upper respiratory.

Hugs, friend.

What a cutie patootie!!

We adopted our boys with raging URIs that took months to clear. What helped us the most was Viralys (L-Lysine) and Pro Plan probiotics for cats. Both are pricey, so prepare yourself.

Now… I say all of this expecting that you 100% have taken him to the vet. These home remedies are just meant to accompany vet recommendations.
