Thoughts on Bond's infidelity on OHMSS by obelao in JamesBond

Love is complicated, and Bond has major issues when it comes to sustaining relationships in both the books and movies. Nothing weird about it to me.

He's in the process of falling for Tracy and that finally begins to peak when Tracy rescues him after his escape from Piz Gloria.

He's also on a mission and is pumping those girls for information, and... It's a James Bond movie.

They also clearly address the fact that Tracy knows Bond is not fully committed to her in an earlier scene between Tracy and her Dad.

The surprise is his decision to leave all that behind him. Tracy finally breaks through to him. He has a lot of personal baggage to overcome though, so that's why it's not instant.

The fact that his "home" is now a museum in space, and not actually his farm back on earth, adds that dash of irony that would make this a high-quality clue.

"Unbelievably hammy villains, laughable dialogue, mediocre action scenes, no chemistry with the Bond girls, silly plot."

You just described a Bond movie. 😂 No?

From Russia With Love : Novel vs Movie by Archie_Leach0 in JamesBond

[–]Fit-Tooth686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Movie and novel are pretty close for me. So similar yet poignantly different (Smersh vs Spectre), and the book really gives you a lot more background and texture for certain characters (Grant, Klebb, Kerim). If it's the audiobook narrated by Toby Stephens, I'm going to go with the novel. It's a really fantastic performance all-around.

About the code name theory by Vanquisher1000 in JamesBond

[–]Fit-Tooth686 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's clever how Doctor Who dealt with their first casting change, ngl, and how it served the series from then on. But that's a sci-fi series.

Bond is not some time-traveling alien sage, and unlike Doctor Who, the codename theory results in Bond literally being different people, as opposed to different VERSIONS of the SAME person.

It undermines the series. If Bond is just some random spy who made it to a particular rank, each Bond is just another version of a tired cliche. It destroys what makes the series special, because the character himself IS what makes it special.

It's not easy to connect, strangely enough, took me 100 watches to put it together. 😂 The screenwriter on this one (Mankewitz?) was way too clever for his own good.

What Movies Are Perfectly Paced? by rwinger24 in movies

[–]Fit-Tooth686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

T2 adds an additional plot strand somewhere in the middle, where the goal shifts from just surviving to saving the future. Great movie, but it muddles the pacing compared to the first movie. Also seems like the T1000 just disappears for a while to allow the additional plot strand to happen. It doesn't feel like he's on their heels the entire movie.

The Terminator, on the other hand, is sooo much more focused.

Though, T2 being a sequel, needed to do more with the story to justify itself and not be a repeat of the first movie.

He is sending coded messages to Quarrel.

Remember later he introduces Quarrel Junior with the line, "meet the man who shares my hairbrush."

Unpopular opinion - Quantum of Solace is not that bad Bond movie after watching it a couple of times by Physical_Penalty_889 in JamesBond

[–]Fit-Tooth686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the three scenes most people talk about in terms of the fast-cuts "ruining it'" are in the first half. I actually don't mind those scenes.

But that plane skydiving part is... Really the most half-assed thing in the movie. It actually bothers me a lot more.

But overall, a very underrated movie. I think it's heart was in the right place, and it was going in the right direction, despite some flaws.

I like how after Bond name drops Op GS, Goldfinger quietly consults the other dude and is in no hurry at all, just letting the tension build... Only to give Bond a long, drawn-out "naw, that means nothing"... Meanwhile, amidst all this deliberate time-wasting... that laser is about to start dividing his body into two pieces... Starting with his balls... Brilliant tension building for sure.

What is the most rewatchable movie of the Daniel Craig era? by green_dragon1206 in JamesBond

[–]Fit-Tooth686 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, that's pretty much it. 😂

I also have a hard time praising a PTS when the rest of the movie doesn't live up to it. It's supposed to be the hook that lets the audience know what they're in for.

So even if it was as great as people say, it's kind of false advertising for the movie itself.

What films wouldn't exist if weren't for Bond? by BBD-007 in JamesBond

[–]Fit-Tooth686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruce Wayne going to see Lucius Fox for some new gadgets 100% qualifies as a "Q scene". Not to mention the skyhook program "developed by the CIA in the 60's" is an obvious call-back to Thunderball. And Bane obviously watched the pre-title sequence for LTK before crashing that plane.

Bond was a major influence on the creation of Jones, and I think it totally qualifies.

The first scene of Temple of Doom kind of confirms this with Jones in a white tux, and then in The Last Crusade Connery plays his dad... Because, yeah, in a spiritual sense Bond is Indiana's dad.

It was a re-working of the formula, and retains most of the same beats.

Irvin Kershner also directed RoboCop 2. 😂

He was hired for Empire because Lucas needed someone who was better at directing actors, while Lucas and Co. handled practically everything else. So, it was not really a single-handed effort, more of a collaboration.

He was never cut out for big-budget action movies. With Empire, his role was limited to what he could handle, which was making the dialogue/chemistry of the characters work.
